My Kingdom Does Not Belong to This World As the Church celebrates the Solemnity of Christ the King this weekend, our hearts are fixed on heaven, from where our God reigns. For our King, born in the stable in Bethlehem, son of Mary and Joseph the carpenter, had no political power in the world. He did not command military troops nor consult with court officials. Instead, he came as one like us that he might show us the way to love and reign in our hearts as he reigns in heaven. Our benevolent Lord and King, Jesus, has chosen to dwell with us and has promised to prepare a place for us to dwell with him in heaven. So, we must ask ourselves, what kingdom are we choosing to live for? Are we seeking to build up a kingdom for ourselves in this life that is bound to pass away? Or will we work hard now to store up for ourselves treasure in heaven and come to share in the glory of the kingdom to come. On Mission for The Church Alive! seeks to strengthen the Church and increase the opportunities for us and others to grow closer to God and share in the life of his kingdom here and now. Visit onmissionchurchalive.org to learn more and to stay informed. BAPTISM CLASS Our next gathering will be held on Sunday, January 20, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. Please call Nancy Spinneweber, Coordinator of Religious Education at 412-921-1613 to register for the class. Children s Liturgy will take place on the FIRST Sunday of each month during the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Children ages 3 and up are invited and will be escorted over to the Parish Office for an age-appropriate version of the First and Second Readings and the Gospel. We hope this will be an opportunity to bring the Word of God to our little ones in a very special way. Volunteers are always welcome! If interested in helping with Children s Liturgy, please contact Nancy Spinneweber, Coordinator of Religious Education at 412-921-1613 or send an email to nancy@stmargparish.org. From none to nun -- Sister Mary Gianna never imaged God would call her to religious life. She was not raised Catholic, or any religion. After surviving the tragedy that took the lives of twelve fellow students and one teacher at Columbine High School in 1999, she came to believe in God and that He had a plan for her life. Everyone is welcome to come and listen to Sr. Mary Gianna tell her compelling story on Thursday, December 6 at 6:30 pm at Assumption Church, Bellevue. (A free will offering will be taken.) Keep Christ in Christmas for this is the reason for the season. Place a nativity scene or Nativity Tree in your yard so all will know that you do know the true meaning of Christmas. Nativity Trees are $65.00 and benefit St. Margaret of Scotland Parish Community. Time is running out to order so don t be disappointed and order today. Order forms are available at the St. Margaret website: www.stmargparish.org. Call Audrey Henn at 412-747-7772 for more information. You re invited to a Festival of Carols and Praise at St. Paul Cathedral on Sunday, December 9th, from 2:30-4:30 PM. Bishop Zubik will preside, and Fr. Levi Hartle and the Holy Apostles Praise Band will lead the praise and worship. Bring your family and friends to join the choirs of the Diocese in joyful song! CHRIST IS KING On the final Sunday of the liturgical year we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. It s easy to understand today s scriptures as events that happened long ago and far away, or predictions that will come true somewhere, some day. But they invite us to claim Christ as our King here and now. Jesus words to Pilate in the Gospel remind us that his kingdom transcends time and place. And the prophecies from Daniel and Revelation give us reason to be faithful to Christ our King right here and right now. By concluding the year with this feast we are proclaiming our faith that Jesus Christ is the one and only King over all seasons, all peoples, and all of creation. No matter what nation we belong to or what language we speak, he has made us into a kingdom (Revelation 1:6) one people united in love and peace for all eternity. Copyright J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.
