Thank you for praying and considering spending meaningful time with our young people. In accordance with our Child Protection Policy, volunteers who work with children and youth must have been members of FPC for 6 months or more and complete a background check online. Sincerely, Geri Doll & Lindsey Hellwig The Divine Conspiracy Brent is teaching a Wednesday night class on a book of the Bible or a book of interest. Our first book of the Bible will be the book of Psalms. We will be looking at the Psalms through the lens of Walter Brueggemann. Brueggemann classified the Psalms as Psalms of Orientation, Psalms of Disorientation, and Psalms of Reorientation. In this class we will even write our own psalms according to these classifications. And then in October we will be looking at a Book of Interest entitled, The Divine Conspiracy by Dallas Willard as part of our congregational wide DVD study. Small group sign-ups will happen on September 20 and 27 in The Well. John Ortberg interviews Dallas Willard on his seminal book The Divine Conspiracy that reveals what God is up to in Jesus Christ. Dallas Willard was the professor of Philosophy at USC. You can purchase this book on Amazon or Christian Books Distributor. We will even have some for sale. This DVD based study comes with a study guide. We will have a facilitator training on September 20 following the 2 nd service in Hobbs. Here is the You Tube link to the Divine Conspiracy DVD based study: https:// youtu.be/765asvuhq7c Lifetouch We are having new directories made and we want each one of you to be included! On the first page of the website there is a blue rectangular button that says Lifetouch. Underneath the button, in the article is another link to Lifetouch. If you click on either one of these links, you will be directed to Lifetouch s photo appointment site. There you may choose an appointment time that is convenient for you. You will also have the opportunity to sign up at Coffee Fellowship in The Well. Next week s Scripture readings are Matthew 6:9-13 with emphasis on verse 9 and Luke 11:1-4 with emphasis on verse 2.

Mark Hayes Amazing grace, how sweet the sound; that saved a wretch like me; I once was lost, but now am found; I once was blind, but now I see. Twas grace that taught my heart to fear, and that same grace my fears relieved; How precious did that grace appear the hour when I first believe! Through many dangers, toils, and snares, I have already safely come; This grace hath brought me safe thus far, and surely grace will lead me home, I shall go home. When we ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun, We ve no less days to sing God s praise than since the day we first begun. Activities & Announcements Call for Craft Supplies! The supply room needs a little help. We will use the following items for our planned craft activities in the coming months: buttons, egg cartons, empty plastic containers with lids, old magazines, catalogs or newspapers, paper tubes (from gift wrap, paper towels or toilet paper), empty shoe boxes, used gift wrap and cards and wallpaper samples. Please consider bringing them from home to the church office. The children of First Church will repurpose these items in a creative way. There is a sign for needed supplies and a box for the items in the hallway. Thank you for your help! Facilitator s Training Facilitator s Training for the small groups study of The Divine Conspiracy will be held today at 12:00 in the Hobbs room. Theological Themes in Literature Theological Themes in Literature will meet at 11:45 a.m., the third Thursday of each month in the Reading Room. For October the book is Still Alice. Family Movie Night Family Movie Night was a huge success with over 50 in attendance! Our next family movie is Friday, September 25, at 6:00 p.m. in The Well. The movie we are showing is Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day. Teachers and Teaching Assistants Needed for our Children and Youth Do you remember when we had the Logos program every Wednesday night? Do you remember the table parents, these people were such an important part of the children s ministry because the children became acquainted with their table parents and then recognized them at church and other church gatherings. Intergenerational relationships serve an important role within the church family, creating ties between our young and older members. The children and youth are looking for a few people who can make a commitment of 1 to 1 ½ hours each Wednesday for 10 weeks. That s only 10 to 15 hours over a 4 month time period. Children-Need 2-4 teachers or teaching assistants from 6-7:30 p.m. Youth-Need 2 teachers from 6:30-7:30 p.m. (Artists or people with scrapbooking experience would be great (but not necessary) because we are venturing into bible journaling. Fall/Winter dates: September 16, 23,30-October 7,14,21-November 4,11,18- December-2 (There are no Wednesday night activities on 10-28 or 11-25) First Presbyterian Church Wichita, Kansas September 20, 2015 10:45 a.m.

Sherman *Call to Worship Leader: The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. People: And also with you. Leader: This is the day that the Lord has made; People: let us rejoice and be glad in it. Leader: Let us worship God. *Prayer of Adoration *Hymn Praise My Soul, the King of Heaven No. 478 Prayer of Confession Merciful God in your gracious presence we confess our sin and the sin of this world. Although Christ is among us as our peace, we are a people divided against ourselves as we cling to the values of a broken world. The profit and pleasures we pursue lay waste the land and pollute the seas. The fears and jealousies that we harbor set neighbor against neighbor and nation against nation. We abuse your good gifts of imagination and freedom, of intellect and reason, and have turned them into bonds of oppression. Lord, have mercy upon us; heal and forgive us. Set us free to serve you in the world as agents of your reconciling love in Jesus Christ. Amen Silence Choral Response Assurance of Pardon Hear the good news! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, that we might be dead to sin, and alive to all that is good. I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Amen. Welcome, Visitors! We extend a special welcome to those who are visiting First Presbyterian Church this morning. We are glad you are here! New membership anything. Large print bulletins and hymnals are available from an usher. Transistor hearing aids are also available for your use. Please ask any usher for one and feel free to sit wherever you wish in the Sanctuary while using one. All persons are encouraged to sign the Ritual of Friendship Pads as they are passed to you in the pews. Please include your address, email address, and telephone number. Please remember to turn off your cell phone before worship this morning. Children s Information Children are welcome in worship. After the Time with Children, kindergarten and younger-aged children are invited to go to the nursery (room C111); children 1st 5th grade are encouraged to stay with their parents for the remainder of the service. If your first grade or older child is having a difficult time sitting through church, you are welcome to worship in the McComb Room outside the NW doors of the Sanctuary, which has a TV broadcasting the service live. We also have children s worship bags (cloth bags outside the Sanctuary doors) to help children in worship. Praying for the Church Family As a congregation we weekly focus our personal and corporate prayers upon a selection of church members and friends. Let us remember in prayer this week the following: Gary and Loyce Booher, Brad and Wendy Bowles & family, Betty Christian, Virginia Edwards, and Carol Olander. Flowers The flowers for our services this morning are given to the glory of God and in loving memory of Paul and Katherine Hutchison by Don and Sara Hutchison. If you need a Stephen Minister, or would like more information about the Stephen Ministry, please contact Dr. Brent Johnston at 263-0248 or Louise Farmer at lfarmer4164@gmail.com.
