Each sister has a secret that influences their lives and, unknowingly, impacts each other. Yet, little by little, the pressure of balancing their responsibilities of their daily lives with their individual secrets becomes harder to manage.the Divine Secrets of the Whoopie Pie Sisters is a different type of Amish Christian story. By blending Sarah Price's 25 years experience of living among the Amish in Pennsylvania with Pamela Jarrell's extensive 15 years experience interacting and befriending the Amish in Berlin, Ohio, Price and Jarrell team up to give the readers a new type of story that focuses not so much on romance but on friendships and the reality of day-to-day life living among the Amish. This book contains all three of the original â œbooksâ plus recipes and hymns from the Ausbund. Also, a sneak peek at Whoopie Pie Place, the sequel to this series due out in 2014. I love her books but this one was a disappointment. I was into the characters and the story though at times it seemed like much sadness was the theme. My big problem is that the book just stopped. I believe when you are writing the final book in a series it needs to wrap up the story and the lives of the characters. I will forgive Sarah Price if she writes book 4. I still look forward to her books as I think she is a talented writer. This book gives a good insight to the Amish people and how they live and believe. They are shown as people just like all the rest of us except that their religion is a way of life not just attending church services on Sunday and holidays. This book gave me a lot to think about in my life. The only divine secret in this series is their complete inability to communicate. These women are incapable of talking to each other! Instead, they worry and fret about things. They also constantly wonder what is happening with someone instead of talking about it! And false modesty -- these women gossip; rush to put out laundry so that they are harder workers than the neighbors; lie constantly; and then are shocked that someone would think they are proud! Terrible! There were times in this series when I wanted to reach into the book and shake one or more of these sisters -- usually Lydia!I hope this series does not accurately depict Amish home and community behavior. If so, then these people are some of the most sinful. I started reading this book yesterday and could hardly put it aside long enough to make a pit stop or eat. It is a wonderful tale of sisters whose characters come alive on the page and whose authors paint pictures the reader can see with the mind's eye. I could almost hear the sisters speaking and see them act. The storms of life hit hard, but they, while showing very human traits, manage to remember who is in control and that his character is loving and merciful. I recommend it, not only to lovers of Amish novels, but to anyone who loves to read about real life happening. The Divine Secrets of the Whoopie Pie Sisters is a noom written by Sarah Price. She gives great descriptions of her characters which brings them to life.this book is about 4 sisters trying to keep a bakery running that their mother opened just before her death. They are all trying to contribute to bakery duties plus be proper Amish women.when secrets start being revealed we soon learn the Amish have many of the same problems as the Englisher do. The difference is the way they are handled. Thru faith they mend some of their problems until one day when a brewing storm hits snd lets out more secrets. If you want to know about all the secrets i recommend you read this book.i did
not receive a complimentary copy of this book for review. I am submitting my honest review for a wonderful story of family, love, and faith. I have rated this book with five stars that it deserves. I congratulate Sarah Price on this book, however, since the nook ended so abuptly without closure on some of the characters i hope there will be another book.ðÿ ƒðÿ ƒðÿ ƒ I normally don't read Amish stories, but for some reason this one grabbed my attention. I was so glad it did. Great story! It just proves,(even though this was fiction) that all families, especially larger ones, have got problems and issues just like anyone else. Sickness, secrets, difficulties getting along, etc,,,, all that doesn't change because you're Christians. It just means He's there to fall back on. Lydia - I wanted to strangle. She deserved everything she got, but I felt really sorry for Abe. Likewise Esther,,, unforgiving, bitter,,, I wanted to shake her and yell "grow up and get with it"! Leah and Thomas, strong and steady, but she had some really heavy loads to bear. Sadie, sweet little Sadie! There has to be another story just for Sadie! This is one of those stories that once you get into it, you can't stop until you're done. But because of the ending - it feels unfinished. Come on Sarah! Finish it up! Experience of the Amish way of life and their trust in God could only be better if I actually lived with the Sisters! Sarah brings the Amish world to life in a way that impels me to read each book of the Trilogy in one sitting. If you don't read Sarah's books, you will miss a great opportunity to meet a wonderful family and their friends. Thoroughly enjoyed this story and learning more about the Amish, their lifestyle, their relationships with each other as well as those of us who are not of their community, and seeing how their very different personalities interact with the communities.
