Hixson Presbyterian Church October 30, 2016 Prelude Greetings Morgan Lusk Prayer of Confession Call to Worship From Colossians 2 Responsive Reading From Romans 3 Not In Me No list of sins I have not done, No list of virtues I pursue, No list of those I am not like, Can earn myself a place with You. O God! Be merciful to me I am a sinner through and through! My only hope of righteousness Is not in me, but only You. No humble dress, no fervent prayer, No lifted hands, no tearful song, No recitation of the truth Can justify a single wrong. My righteousness is Jesus life, My debt was paid by Jesus death, My weary load was borne by Him And he alone can give me rest. No separation from the world, No work I do, no gift I give, Can cleanse my conscience, cleanse my hands; I cannot cause my soul to live. But Jesus died and rose again The pow r of death is overthrown! My God is merciful to me And merciful in Christ alone. Ending: My righteousness is Jesus life, My debt was paid by Jesus death, My weary load was borne by Him And he alone can give me rest. Grace Unmeasured Grace unmeasured, vast and free, that knew me from eternity, that called me out before my birth, to bring You glory on this earth. Grace amazing, pure and deep, that saw me in my misery, that took my curse and owned my blame, so I could bear Your righteous name. Chorus Grace (grace, grace), paid for my sins and brought me to life Grace (grace, grace), clothes me with pow r to do what is right Grace (grace, grace), will lead me to heav n,

where I ll see Your face, and never cease to thank You for Your grace. Grace abounding, strong and true, that makes me long to be like You, that turns me from my selfish pride, to love the cross on which You died. Grace unending all my days, You ll give me strength to run this race. And when my years on earth are through, the praise will all belong to You. In Christ Alone In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground, Firm through the fiercest drought and storm. What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease. My Comforter, my All in All, here in the love of Christ I stand In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe. This gift of love and righteousness, Scorned by the ones He came to save Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied. For every sin on Him was laid, here in the death of Christ I live. There in the ground His body lay, Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious day, Up from the grave he rose again. And as He stands in victory, Sin s curse has lost its grip on me. For I am His, and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ. Choir Anthem No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life s first cry, to final breath, Jesus commands my destiny. No power of hell, no scheme of man, Can ever pluck me from His hand. Til He returns, or calls me home, Here in the power of Christ I ll stand Come Ye Sinners Prayer of Intercession Offertory God s Tithes and Our Offerings *Please fill out the friendship folder found at the end of the pew* Children ages 4 & 5 are dismissed to Children s Church Show Us Christ Sermon Spiritual Warfare Robert Johnson Nehemiah 4:1-9 (page 400 in the pew Bible)

A Mighty Fortress Is Our God #92 A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing; Our helper He amid the flood of mortal ills prevailing. For still our ancient foe doth seek to work us woe; His craft and pow r are great; and, armed with cruel hate, On earth is not his equal. Did we in our own strength confide, our striving would be losing; Were not the right man on our side, The man of God s own choosing. Dost ask who that may be? Christ Jesus, it is He Lord Sabaoth His name, from age to age the same, And He must win the battle. And though this world, with devils filled, Should threaten to undo us, We will not fear, for God hath willed His truth to triumph through us. The prince of darkness grim, we tremble not for him; His rage we can endure, for lo! his doom is sure: One little word shall fell him. That Word above all earthly pow rs, no thanks to them, abideth; The Spirit and the gifts are ours through Him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; The body they may kill; God s truth abideth still; His kingdom is forever. Benediction Postlude **Elders are available for prayer at the front of the sanctuary. Congregation Standing Please feel free to sit as necessary. CCLI#540356

Sermon Notes - Robert Johnson Spiritual Warfare Nehemiah 4:1-9 First, Opposition Boice Opposition is almost always caused by success and not failure. Jn. 15:18 If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. 2 Tim. 3:12 All who desire to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted Elephantine Papyri We have also set forth the whole matter in a letter in our name to Delaiah and Shelemiah, the sons of Sanballat, the governor of Samaria. John 4:9 The Samaritan woman said to him, How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Second, World At War 1 Pet. 5:8 Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. 1 Pet. 2:11 The passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Warfare Inside & Out Third, From Outside & In Col. 3:12-13 Put on then, as God s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. Phil. 2:3-4 In humility count others more significant than yourselves. 4 Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. Finally, Know, Pray, Work & Watch
