SADANAND Just Is Jail Bound Good old Justice Karnan, contemplating his aching feet that were in need of rest after treading on the feet of many a lawyer and mighty robe wearers, would now be sending his thunderboltish curses at the final convicting crew who shot him down with a single lance of contempt of court. The climax of this courtroom drama having come after an Wodehouseian series of twists and turns where both sides were passing orders to have the other s head to be examined by shrinks! This final order of arrest having come from the Mighty Bench to warn people that what is passable in Donald Trump s Orange Republic is not allowable in our India, which is no Banana Republic and still maintains that Law is the same for all. Karnan must have seen all as equal too - equally corrupt! And now with the police after him, he seems to have left unpaid bills in his wake at the guest house in his hurry not be part of the welcoming party when the long arm of law reaches out to grab his wrist. Who knows why the man did what he did in trying to be at loggerheads with the Bench of Judges? Was he being eccentric and irrational or was he merely a seeker of truth, not willing to rest on his laurels but striving to outshine the stars? Why are millions in the world still making mistakes? If, from committing several billion mistakes, a ray of truth emerges, then this beautiful earth can be saved perhaps till another truth seeker finds the next grain of truth. That perhaps is the office of everyone born, be it Sadanand, Trump, or Karnan. Of course, it helps in the process if one can keep a civil tongue while searching for the truth. Now that the arrest and six month jail term, not to mention the gag order on the press, are imminent, newspapers will become a dull affair again, after providing so much entertainment from February with all the court comedy. Karnan was probably only living up to the reputation of his mythological namesake as the eternal giver, by doling out generous sentences of 5 years RI and Rs. 2 crores fine each to the Supreme Court Bench of Judges!! It further stated that in case of any delay in the supply, such complaints can also be lodged online. Offline users can book supply by calling the number 4567 4567 in the government s centralized booking system. Based on this, I contacted their centralized booking number and provided details they had sought to get myself registered. Following this, I got an SMS indicating the booking number, the required quantity (6000 liters) and the amount I needed to pay (Rs. 510). To my shock, I found that the amount charged for booking 6000 liters using the online/ centralized phone system is higher by Rs. 110. The same quantity of water, booked directly at the zonal office, costs only Rs. 400. That over and above the charges for the tanker, one has to pay tips to the drivers, is another matter. I seek clarification on the above matter from Metrowater Department. V. S. Jayaraman, 31, Motilal Street, T. Nagar Penalty, the only solution to protect EB boxes from misuse Sir, This letter refers to the report EB appeal: Don t paste posters on junction boxes published in Mambalam Times last week. It stated that TANGEDCO has made an appeal not to misuse junction boxes for pasting posters as in the prevailing oppressive weather conditions, a minor spark in the junction box could ignite the paper, triggering a major fire accident. Irrespective of the season, the junction boxes of the service providers like TNGEDCO, BSNL or others, should not be defaced with posters. Showers bring a little respite Ellaiamman Koil Street (West Mambalam) Appeals notwithstanding, the service providers must indicate on the junction boxes that any kind of misuse of junction boxes will attract a heavy penalty. Despite such warning, if posters are still found stuck on the junction boxes, the service providers must initiate legal proceedings against those who come out with such posters and recover the damages from them. Only this kind of measure will protect the junction boxes from misuse. V. S. Jayaraman, 31, Motilal Street, T. Nagar 4 th Avenue (Ashok Nagar). A sudden downpour in the evening of May 11 led to water stagnation on Ellaiamman Koil Street (West Mambalam) and 4 th Avenue (Ashok Nagar). It also brought the much needed respite from the scorching sun as the day after the rain was relatively cooler. Police caution against misuse of social networking apps City Police Commissioner Karan Singha on May 9 pointed out that unconfirmed reports and rumours on networking websites like WhatsApp have been a nuisance and interfered with the maintenance of law and order. He has warned that stringent action will be taken against anyone spreading rumours leading to breakdown of law and order. We are also monitoring bulk SMSs sent with illegal intent or intent of igniting communal discord, and will take suitable action against such persons or groups, he said. He added that police will seek the assistance of telephone service providers and the telecom enforcement resources and monitoring cell to crack down on misuse of mobile networks and the internet. Women Helpline 1091 Corporation erects sign posts along cycle track Corporation workers have installed sign posts at intervals of 30 ft along the recently inaugurated cycle track on P. T. Rajan Salai and Lakshmanasamy Salai, K. K. Nagar. Though Ashok Nagar Police are making all efforts to keep the track free for cyclists, encroachments continue close to the track. The picture shows an unau-thorised pavement shop blocking the pavement thereby forcing pedestrians to walk on the cycle track on P. T. Rajan Salai. Other forms of encroachment include parking of vehicles and EB equipment like junction boxes which is yet to be relocated.
