Story of the Joseph Fund Bequests, estate gifts and other planned donations are managed by World Renew through our Joseph Fund. World Renew will manage your gift by investing it wisely and using the principal and accumulated interest over a period of seven years. The vision for the Joseph Fund comes from Genesis 41. While Joseph was living in Egypt, he prophesied the coming of seven years of prosperity followed by seven years of famine. To prepare, Joseph encouraged the people of Egypt to store their surplus crops during the years of plenty so that they would have supplies during years of want. The result was extraordinary. Food stored up saved thousands of lives during the seven lean years. In the same way, World Renew uses your gift over seven years to maximize its impact and ensure that more disaster survivors and people in poverty can be helped. The Joseph Fund is a designated fund and is pooled with other longterm giving. The fund is managed in accordance with the approved investment policy of the Christian Reformed Church (CRC). The Finance Committee of the CRC Board of Trustees monitors the fund and ensures stewardly investments and ethical management. An Audit Committee of World Renew directors also provides oversight. Funds received in Canada are managed in Canada. Your gift to the Joseph Fund can be made through your will, or through a gift of stock, real estate, life insurance, charitable gift annuities, or a monetary gift. Ten percent of your gift will be used for World Renew ministries in the year that you give it. The remaining 90% will be invested. Over the next six years, World Renew will use 15% of your gift principal, and the income earned, to continue its programs.

Planning Your Giving As you plan your giving, you may wish to work with a financial advisor. One avenue for planning your gift is working through Christian Stewardship Services, a partner of World Renew. CSS assists individuals, families, and companies with planning and giving. There are many ways to make a charitable gift or plan for an estate gift during your lifetime. CSS has the knowledge and expertise to help people sort through these options and plan gifts that will achieve favourable tax outcomes for them while also maximizing funds available for ministry. Ways of Giving One of the ways that you can support World Renew is through a gift within your Last Will and Testament. Planning your Last Will and Testament is your testimony; a way of expressing what you value, including supporting your loved ones and giving to the charities you wish to support. A gift within a will can be a bequest which is a specific lump sum or a specific percentage of your estate. service. Through this service CSS distributes gifts to charities according to a Letter of Direction from the donor. This provides you with greater flexibility as there is no need to change your Last Will and Testament if you decide to change allocations to your favourite charitable causes. Your Gifts at Work Omoilo lives in the village of Bakhlapara in India. When he was a child, he had to drop out of school in grade five because his family could no longer afford to send him. Now Omoilo is a farmer providing for five children of his own by working a small plot of land given to him by his grandparents. Through agricultural programs supported by World Renew, Omoilo has received the training and resources he needs for his livelihood to flourish and his income to increase. After Omoilo became a member of the farmers club in his village, he began to attend various training and meetings on skills such as kitchen gardening, livestock, and water harvesting. He then used this learning to begin making improvements to his land. He planted nitrogen-fixation trees and pineapples to help prevent soil erosion and diversified his crops by adding different kinds of fruits like oranges, litchi, lemon and guava. He integrated livestock into his farm, which had the added benefit of giving him organic fertilizer for his crops. Omoilo also adopted a new method of growing rice known as the System of Rice Intensification (SRI). Today, Omoilo is looking towards a bright future. All my life I never practiced new methods of cultivation since I was afraid that if it failed then my family and I would not have food, he said. But this year after I attended the training provided by the project, I felt motivated and confident, and I decided that I should try and see the difference. I know this year will be the best year for me as my family will reap more from what we sow. This is just one story of how gifts to World Renew s Joseph Fund helped give new abundance to a family in need. To invest in World Renew is a tangible and a lasting way to demonstrate the enduring grace and faithfulness of God. Your generosity will be felt from generation to generation.
