Hurricane Policy It s Hurricane Season, so REMEMBER: Our church policy for closing the church in the event of a storm is Anytime hurricane conditions are predicted for a Sunday morning, including the possibility of winds high enough to prevent emergency workers from being on the roads, services will be canceled. So. If on Saturday night, hurricane conditions are being predicted for North Port, you may know that Sunday services are canceled even if conditions are improved on Sunday morning. When possible our calling committees will make phone calls, but please do not rely solely on a phone call. Bottom line: Be Safe! Need a place to go during a Hurricane? Do You have a Plan? Be sure to fill out an application for Sarasota County People With Special Needs. Copies are available in the church office. The time to make a plan for where to go in the event of a hurricane is NOW, not when one is just a few days away. This will give you and your family peace of mind knowing that you have a plan should the need arise.

Shipwrecked VBS June 18-22, 2018 THANK YOU to everyone who helped in any way to make our 2018 VBS another successful year. Your generosity is always appreciated. We enjoyed the company of 46 children and 8 teens during our exciting week here. Campers and adults alike learned that when we re lonely, worried, struggling, do wrong, or feel powerless JESUS RESCUES! During the week we had the help of about 40 adult volunteers an awesome and amazing group of caring people who served our campers in many different ways. Our VBS Mission Project Be Like Brit raised over $600 from the coins the campers brought in each day. They learned many things about Haiti and the Be Like Brit organization. On Friday evening we served over 180 for dinner and everyone enjoyed the wonderful program the children put on for their families and friends. Another year well done! Many thanks to all. Miss Ally and Miss Patti

Three books have been purchased by funds given to the church library by UCC Women. These books all concern Haiti and come from the Reading for Renewal list supplied by the Florida State women. Heartache and Hope in Haiti: The Britney Gengel Story by Len and Cherylann Gengel is of special interest to the children in VBS as they supported the Be Like Brit organization. The book is written by Britney s parents in honor of their daughter who was killed in the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The book explains their endeavors in building an orphanage to make their daughter s dream come true. With so much interest in Haiti, the book Did you Know? Over One Hundred Facts about Haiti and her Children by Marjorie Charlot will give you an approachable and informative introduction to Haiti. The third book is A Sky the Color of Chaos by M. J. Fievre. This book is the story of M.J. s perilous childhood during the rise and fall of Haiti s President-Priest. This is a vivid account of the perils of growing up in Haiti. Please note that the Left Behind series has been placed in the far left shelf hoping that many will read this series. Book One is Left Behind: A Novel of Earth s Last Days. Please excuse the confusion in the shelving as the committee is shifting and weeding. Happy Reading!

From the Church Mouse.. Did you see Pip and me at Shipwrecked VBS? We were there! Climbed all the way up to the top of the sail, but found out there was an Iguana named Guac hanging out up there. He thought we might make a tasty snack, so wescurried back down the mast and hid among the coconut trees. It was good to see our friends return and have some fun with us. Our favorite song had us sliding and gliding, swooping and soaring, but most importantly remembering Don t Worry bout a Thing! (Not even Iguanas??) A good lesson for us all. Now that the ship has sailed away, things have gotten a bit more quiet around the big room and folks are going away trying to find cooler places. Pip and I will just stay here and keep an eye on the place and enjoy the quiet days until things get busy and crazy again. Enjoy the rest of your summer. Ye Olde Church Mouse & Pip PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY Attention knitters and those who crochet! Prayer Shawls will resume meeting on August 14th at 2:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome.

FOOD FOR THE NEEDY Remember the 2nd Sunday is our Collection of Food for those who are hungry. We alternate months, going to Salvation Army and Face of Hope. Join us! November 11-17, 2018 We are limited to just 8 persons. Call the office to sign up. Cost is $1,650 per person and includes your expenses and supplies to build a house. Dine to Donate! Please continue to take your vouchers to Perkins each time you dine there. Perkins will collect the vouchers and quarterly send us a check donating 10% of the subtotal of everyone s bills. A win/win for everyone. Last month we received $49.96! We appreciate your support of this program. Large enough to serve you; small enough to know you.

Undy Sunday Fill-A-Flatbed Every summer we collect underwear, socks and back to school supplies for our local school children. We will be collecting these items now through the last Sunday in August. Watch carefully for sales in the stores and pick up some items when you have a chance. There will be a container in the narthex for you to put them. These items will be distributed to the schools in North Port for children who need them. We thank you in advance for your generosity. Norma Beach A Brief Update on ECHO This year our ECHO mission is two-fold. We are supporting the Seed Bank ministry in Chiang Mai, Thailand. AND, we are building a support fund for young people who need our help in their plans to become missionaries. In the next Navigator I will go into more detail. Thank you for all you can do to support ECHO - ending worldwide hunger! Sharon Miller, for The Missions Committee
