Rather than depart, Jesus reassures Peter, and gives him and his companions a calling to be more than they thought they were, I will make you fishers of men. If we let Jesus come close to us, He always makes more of us than we thought possible. He gives us everything we need to follow Him and to reach out to others with the Good News. From Now, On You Will be Fishers of Men In today s Gospel, we hear the story of the calling of Peter and his companions. After a long day of fishing, but having caught nothing, Peter and the other fishermen are not at all enthusiastic about Jesus instructions to go back out and put the nets down again. These fellows are professional fishermen, and they knew there was simply nothing to be caught that day. We know the rest of the story. The catch is so big that the nets begin to break. Peter realizes that Jesus is no ordinary man, and he senses God s presence. Good Sunday, Good People! WELCOME TO THE 5th SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME! Dear Parish Family, We are called to be disciples of Jesus. It is not enough just to believe. We are asked to take up our crosses and follow Him. We are challenged to make sacrifices. We are challenged to live out our faith. We are challenged to be the face of Jesus to those we meet. As we celebrate the Holy Mass today, let us look for ways in which we can better live out our faith. This weekend, at St. Mary of the Angels Parish, we are celebrating our second restoration fundraiser at the Riverside Ballroom. This is our February Pre-Lenten brunch, and we invite family and friends, especially from Ss. Peter & Paul, to help us build up one another and restore the church interior at St. Mary's. I Hope to see you later today. THE WORD OF GOD An unlikely thread links the three people who are called to be disciples in today's readings. Each one pronounces himself unworthy. Isaiah, Paul, and Peter are saints and prophets, but each sees himself first as a sinner. As we listen to the readings today, let us realize that even though we too are unworthy, God still calls us to be disciples. Questions of The Week: In what ways am I called to transform my life? Noticias Bautismos: Los Bautismos se celebraran durante la Misa de las 12: 30 los domingos, o el primer sábado de cada mes. Los Papás tendrán que ser miembros registrados de la Parroquia, y tienen que venir a registrarse para el bautismo y las pláticas pre- bautismales al menos un mes antes de la celebración. Los Padrinos necesitan llenar un certificado firmado por el pastor de su Parroquia y con el sello parroquial, donde coste que cumplen con los requerimientos necesarios para ser padrinos. Si están casados necesitan estar casados por la Iglesia católica, y si es soltero estar viviendo conforme a las enseñanzas de la Iglesia católica, Tener por lo menos 16 años de edad y haber recibido los sacramentos de iniciación (Bautismo, Confirmación y la Eucaristía. Es necesario que al menos un Padrino cumpla con todos los requerimientos necesarios. Se nos pide que tomemos nuestras cruces y lo sigamos. Somos desafiados a hacer sacrificios. Somos desafiados a vivir nuestra fe. Somos desafiados a ser el rostro de Jesús para aquellos con quienes nos encontramos. Al celebrar hoy la Santa Misa, busquemos formas en las que podamos vivir mejor nuestra fe. La Palabra de Dios: Las tres figuras principales en nuestras lecturas de hoy comparten algo muy inusual en común: Cada uno se declara indigno. Isaías, Pablo y Pedro son santos y profetas, pero cada uno se ve a sí mismo primero como un pecador. Mientras escuchamos las lecturas de hoy, comprendamos que aunque nosotros también somos indignos, Dios todavía nos llama a ser discípulos.
