FROM THE VICAR S DESK All the believers were together and had everything in common. Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need. Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. (Acts 2:44-47) God s original design for the church is found in the book of Acts and the early chapters contain the character of the early Christian community life and mission in Jerusalem. We can see all fundamental qualities of a worshipping community in this passage. It was a worshipping church, evangelizing church, learning church, loving church, caring church and so on. The early church was built on prayer and worship and miracles were happened in these situations. The worshipful church experienced sincere praise and sincere communion with the savior. It was not something scheduled to draw a crowd but a real community living. Proclaiming Christ for them was never seen optional but evangelism happened regularly as the early believers lived their lives. They devoted themselves to the Apostles teaching; they were in fellowship and engaged at the breaking of the bread. They lived as a family and bound together in love, caring for one another, helping one another and serving one another. This was the way that the early church embodied the good news of Jesus Christ. They experienced the Koinonia in the real community living. They shared everything they had. They took care of each other. The most distinctive practice of the early church was the sharing of the goods. This was the actual miracle. Jesus was telling them over and over about the kingdom of God and through these actions they were making it a reality. Such a living was possible because of the power of Holy Spirit which was experienced on the Pentecost day. The Acts model of Christian community is one of common worship, common practice, and common good and common witness. Today the modern advanced society and the worldly values promote individualism, privacy and taking care of self. In an economic culture and selfish motivated society there is no value and place for caring and sharing. But as an alternative Christian community we are called out to live a kingdom society. A loving church is a place where there is true fellowship and ministry. During the month of May we lost our two beloved members. The demise of Mrs. Thankamma Thomas and Dr. John Mathew are great loss to our parish. Let us praise God for their valuable life and service to the growth of our church and pray that the Heavenly Father comfort the sorrowing family and friends. May our good Lord strengthen us to be a good worshipping community in this world. Yours A. B. Binu Achen.

YOUTH CHAPLAIN S CORNER Marketing Christ or Marking Christ Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. (Mat. 28. 19, 20) Jesus commandment before leaving this world, after the resurrection, is very crucial to the mission of the church today. What is the commandment of Jesus here? Jesus commandment is to make disciples of all the nations. Making disciples is not an easy task and Jesus clearly states the ways to do that. Make disciples is the main verb of verses 19 and 20, so Jesus mandate here is to make disciples of all the nations. Some people misinterpreted this as a commandment for baptism and some others misunderstood this as a commandment only to preach the Gospel. Through the years this commandment is being distorted by reducing the mission as to market Christ. Christ is becoming a product that s being sold out in a competitive Market. The number of sales representatives is increasing and they are using all the modern techniques and apps to market Christ in whatever way possible. All the modern communication methods are being used to communicate about Christ. New apps, new music, new webs and new channels are used to preach Christ but after so many centuries how many disciples are there who followed and following the way that Jesus wanted us to obey? I am not trying to criticize anyone but trying to make a self criticism asking to myself am I marketing Christ or Marking Christ. This is the biggest challenge before every Christian especially to those who are in the ministry. Here we have to look at the correct meaning of this commandment of Jesus. This commandment is all about witnessing Jesus and I would call it as marking Christ. Our words and our deeds have to mark Christ. Jesus clearly states that obeying what he has commanded is the way to become a disciple of Christ. Where are our Christ markings today? We are called to live out according to the teachings of Christ. We spend a lot of money and energy in marketing Christ but we are challenged to carry the marking of Christ in our life. Today The Gospel is calling us to be witnesses of Christ Jesus by living a life worthy of His teachings. We have many models in front of us who marked Christ in their lives. The apostles, people like mother Theresa, Father Damien, Martin Luther King, and William Carrey are few examples who marked Christ in their lives and they are all still living as true witnesses of Jesus. Let us dedicate us to mark Christ in our lives. V. M. Mathew Achen 11
