Once while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. ~Luke 5:1-3 Grace and peace to each of you, On Sunday, February 10 th, we will begin a new sermon series entitled See All the People and we explore what it means to build relationships with those in our community. This will be a time of coming together for worship and celebrating the love of Jesus and also a time of being sent back out into the world to serve!!! Something amazing happened this week that I want to share with you! On January 29 th, the new building for Culture of Life Ministries was dedicated. This was a building gifted to Culture of Life by Orrin and Pasty Johnson and their family. This dedication was a wonderful celebration of the generosity of the Johnson family and also the continued fruitfulness of COLM. It was a packed house! One of the songs that was sung was This Little Light of Mine and it was a reminder to share the light and love of God in all the places we find ourselves. Light helps us see more clearly. We turn on lights in our homes to illuminate dark spaces. When the sun sets and the night arrives, we are given the gift of moon and stars to provide light for us. Some nights are darker than others because of fog and yet, there is a promise that the light is still present. Each of us are invited to be light in this world and one of the ways we can do that is by looking around at the people in our community and seeing them. In the scripture above, Jesus sees the people. He sees the crowd and instead of walking away, he recognizes their desire to hear the word of God. Jesus devises a plan to engage with them and to invite them to hear the good news! In this scripture, there is a question for us. Are we willing to see the people and begin to build relationships with them? If you would like to be engaged in a discussion about how we can see the people around us, I will be hosting a small group for four Sundays. We will gather for fellowship and discussion about how God is calling us to engage with our neighbors. You re invited to bring a friend and your favorite snack to share. Details are below. Blessings, Pastor Jeana See All the People Small Group Sundays: February 10 th, 17 th & March 3 rd & 10 th 6:30 pm @ 1414 Maple Court (Harlingen)

Page 4 Preschool Plug Wesley Preschool has a full-house with 85 children enrolled. Earlier in the year we replaced the window units in rooms 1-7 with central air and heat. With the recent ups and downs in temperature, these units have been a blessing on cold days. Coming up this month, Cita s Boutique will be hosting a give back event for the preschool. On February 6th from 2:00 pm -7:00 pm, 20% of all sales of Kendra Scott jewelry will be given back to the preschool. We greatly appreciate Cita s hosting this event for us! Also not far away is Dr. Seuss Birthday. This year we will celebrate on Friday, March 1st. If you can dice ham or scramble eggs, we d love to have you help us with our annual breakfast of Green Eggs and Ham. If you have never stopped by the preschool between 7:00 am - 5:30 pm Monday-Friday, I encourage you to do so. Seeing our classrooms packed with little children is awesome! ~Maudie The Rio Texas Conference commends Wesley UMC on 100% apportionment giving! Handbells Handbells meet every Thursday at 6:00 pm.
