Page 2 ASH WEDNESDAY: Please make plans to take part in one of our Ash Wednesday Services. March 1st is the beginning of our season of Lent. Traditionally God's people gather on this day to recenter ourselves for our communal journey to Easter. Two opportunities to gather in the sanctuary for this short service: 7 am and 6 pm. LENTEN LUNCHES Please remember that our community Lenten lunches begin Wednesday, March 8 and continues each Wednesday through April 5th 12 noon-1 pm in the Harris Hall. Please join our neighbor churches for lunch ($5), fellowship, and a devotion. The schedule is as follows: March 8 - Long Memorial United Methodist Church March 15 - Roxboro Baptist Church March 22 - St. Mark s Episcopal Church March 29 - First Baptist Church April 5 - Roxboro Presbyterian Church NEWS FROM TRUSTEES There are two funding sources that are used to keep the church building and grounds in good condition. A budget line item takes care of normal month to month repairs and maintenance. This is funded by weekly giving to the Church budget. Larger maintenance projects are funded by the Building Maintenance Fund. It is an honor to report that the Building Maintenance Fund has been renamed The Brantley Burnett Family Building Maintenance Fund. This was done to recognize the Brantley Burnett Family for the many gifts given to this fund in the past, present, and future. Thank you for your generous ongoing support. At the last Trustee meeting it was decided to say good bye to our current church van. This van has served our needs for a long time but its age along with the lack of some safety features that are available on newer vans was the cause for this decision. When a van is needed for a trip we can lease one through University Ford. A thank you goes out to Jamie Young for making this arrangement possible. When a van is needed, please make the request to George Gentry and he will help with arrangements. If there is enough need and support to purchase another van, we will revisit this issue. Please see George Gentry for any comments or concerns.
Page 3 ORDER YOUR EASTER LILIES We are taking orders for Easter lilies that will be placed in the sanctuary on Easter Sunday, April 16th. Those wishing to purchase a lily in memory or in honor of someone special should call the church office (599-1193). The cost is $13.00 per lily. DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME Don t forget to turn your clocks UP (SPRING FORWARD) one hour before going to bed on Saturday night March 11 th! LOCAL MISSION PROJECT CHRISTIAN HELP CENTER NEEDS : canned tuna, canned chicken. A basket is in the Narthex for you to place your donations in. Thank you! BACKPACK PALS Backpack Pals of Person is searching for a volunteer to help the current coordinator run the program. Because the program has grown to include over 240 school children and 10 Person County Schools, we need someone to share the responsibilities and time commitment needed to run the program. It would take 8-10 hours a week and would include time on Wednesday when the foods are packed for distribution. If you are interested in volunteering for this much needed program in Person County, please contact Susan Hester at either backpackofpc@gmail.com or 336-583-1463. CHRISTMAS BOXES FOR ARMENIA - Agape Mission Annually in October, Long Memorial members have individually put together Christmas boxes for the orphan children in Armenia. This year we are going about this mission in a different way. The mission committee is asking everyone to bring specific items each month. Then by October there will have been donated all items needed to assemble the boxes. A box will be placed in the Narthex in which to place your items. For the months of February and March, we shall be collecting warm hats and gloves for kids 0 to 18 years of age. This is a good time to find these items on sale. Let s all work together in supporting this worthwhile project.
