ORDER OF WORSHIP MARCH 3, 2019 Prelude Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silent" arr. Richard Warner Judy Kabodian, organ Welcome to The Peoples Church! Rev. Case Van Kempen Worship is both personal and communal, formal and informal, intimate and casual. Here at The Peoples Church, we recognize that people come to worship God in both joy and pain, faith and doubt, with laughter and with tears. Our worship tries to reflect a desire both for meditation and celebration. Please know you are invited to participate in any and all ways you feel led. Our songs, prayers, words and actions are the works of imperfect people trying to worship a perfect God. Call to Worship (composed by R. Smith, Apple Valley, MN) Leader: Beyond our busyness, above the cold winter floor, there is a glory rising born of heaven and reaching out to each one of us; People: A light that shines through the clouds, an invitation seeking all of who we are that transfigures the world; Leader: That transforms darkness into hope, that brings life from a cross where old life ends and new life is born. People: In glory Jesus meets us here, raising us from depths of valley to the height of the mountain, carrying the weight of our humanity to the heights of heaven s glory. Leader: Let us worship from the mountain and hear again, This is my Son, my Chosen; listen to him! Gathering Hymn "Jesus, Take Us to the Mountain" No. 193 Procession of the Light of Christ Abigail Schuette and Blake Burke, acolytes Call to Confession Leader: Let us gather before our shining Savior to confess our sins that we might be forgiven. Prayer of Confession All: God of Mercy and Grace, you come to us in Jesus of Nazareth to break down the dividing walls of hostility between us, yet we maintain walls that separate and isolate. You give us the ministry of reconciliation, yet we nurse our wounds and withhold mercy and forgiveness. You invite us to join with Peter, James, and John on the mountain of Transfiguration, yet we deny the wonders you have worked in our own lives. Forgive our lack of vision and understanding, we pray. Transform us by your Spirit and your Word into that which pleases you, the image of Christ. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon Leader: Friends, hear the good news of the Gospel: the brilliance of Christ's presence before us outshines the darkness of our sin. In the name of Jesus Christ, we are forgiven! People: Alleluia! Amen! Congregational Response "Take, O Take Me as I Am" No. 698 Take, O take me as I am; summon out what I shall be; Set your seal upon my heart and live in me. (Repeat) First Reading Matthew 16:24-28 (Pew Bible Page 983; Large Print 1,496) Solo "In This Moment of Remembrance" Dale Wood Christine Roberts, mezzo-soprano Communion Communion Hymns "An Upper Room Did Our Lord Prepare" No. 202 "Break Thou the Bread of Life" No. 460 "Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence" No. 347 Children's Moment (10:30 a.m.) Youth Choir Anthem (10:30 a.m.) "Amazing Grace" arr. Francisco Núñez Youth Choir, directed by Elizabeth Reed Luke Nuñez, soloist Passing the Peace of Christ The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. And also with you. Second Reading Matthew 17:1-8 (Pew Bible Page 983; Large Print 1,496) Sermon "Glory Revealed" Rev. Case Van Kempen @Connect2TPC #TPCsermon Prayers of the People; The Lord s Prayer Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever, Amen.

Thanksgiving and Dedication of Gifts Offertory (10:30 a.m.) Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones" arr. William Fisher Sanctuary Choir, directed by Dr. Jonathan Reed Act of Praise Praise God, from whom all blessings flow; Praise God, all creatures here below; Praise God above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Amen. Prayer of Dedication Majestic God, your glory is far greater than we can describe; we praise and worship you. Thank you for sending your Son Jesus to reveal the light of your will. Please help us to listen closely to your Word and Spirit. We commit ourselves anew to your service through our gifts and offerings. We pray in Jesus name. Amen. Sending Hymn "Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven" No. 620 Benediction Congregational response: Jesus is Lord! Benediction Response Go now in peace. Never be afraid. God will go with you each hour of every day. Go now in faith, steadfast, strong and true. Know God will guide you in all you do. Go now in love, and show you believe. Reach out to others so all the world can see. God will be there watching from above. Go now in peace, in faith, and in love. Postlude "Fanfares" Jean Joseph Mouret Floral Dedication: Given to the glory of God.
