Order for the Worship of God Park Cities Presbyterian Church February 15, 2015 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 am To all who are spiritually weary and seek rest; to all who mourn and long for comfort; to all who struggle and desire victory; to all who sin and need a Savior; to all who are strangers and want fellowship; to all who hunger and thirst after righteousness; and to all who will come, this church opens wide her doors and offers welcome in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. We Prepare Our Hearts The LORD is in His holy temple; let all the earth keep silence before Him. Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. People: Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread, and your labor for that which does not satisfy? Listen diligently to me, and eat what is good, and delight yourselves in rich food. Isaiah 55.1-2

Bill Lamberth 8:00 The Rev. Brent Baker 9:30 The Rev. Chad Scruggs 11:00 We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge both the living and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end. And we believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets; and we believe in one holy catholic and apostolic church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen. The Nicene Creed Hymn No. 164 O for a Thousand Tongues to Sing AZMON * - 2 -

The Sacrament of Baptism 9:30/11:00 Parental Vows 1. Do you acknowledge your child's need of the cleansing blood of Jesus Christ, and the renewing grace of the Holy Spirit? 2. Do you claim God's covenant promises on their behalf, and do you look in faith to the Lord Jesus Christ for their salvation, as you do for your own? 3. Do you now unreservedly dedicate your child to God, and promise, in humble reliance upon divine grace, that you will endeavor to set before them a godly example, that you will pray with and for them, that you will teach them the doctrines of our holy religion, and that you will strive, by all the means of God's appointment, to bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord? Congregational Vow Do you as a congregation undertake the responsibility of assisting the parents in the Christian nurture of their child? 9:30 Ann Catherine Heath Libby Allison Schulze Ellie Christine Schulze 11:00 Caleb Alderson Richards Michael Davis Schultz Thomas Joseph Walden III Lillian Elizabeth Walden Prayer for the Families 9:30/11:00 Hymn Come, Ye Sinners RESTORATION 9:30/11:00 2 & bb b b 4 1. 2. 3. 4. & b b b b ú Come, ye sin - ners, poor Come, ye Come, ye thirst - y, wea- ry, come, heav - y I will a - rise and go to and and need - y, weak and wound- ed, wel -come, God's free boun- ty la - den, lost and ru - ined Je - sus; He will em-brace me sick glo by in and - ri - the His j ú sore; fy; fall; arms; Je - sus true be - if you in the read - y stands to save you, lief and true re - pent - ance, tar - ry till you're bet - ter, arms of my dear Sa - vior, full ev you O, of pit - - ery grace will there nev - are y, that er ten love, and pow'r. brings you nigh. come at all. thou - sand charms. - 3 -

Prayer of Confession Holy Father, we praise You for the riches that are ours in Christ Jesus. In Him we have life and have it abundantly! You have promised Your goodness and mercy shall follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in Your house forever as co-heirs with Christ. Truly none of us can even imagine all the things You prepare for those who love You. Instead, we have filled our imaginations with all kinds of substitutes for You; things we think will make us happy and fulfilled. We have dreamed of possessions, positions, pleasures, and privileges. We have longed for comforts, entertainments, and attention. Our pride has an unquenchable thirst. Father, forgive us. Create in us clean hearts, O God, and renew a right Spirit within us. Help us not to fix our eyes on things which are seen and temporal, but fix our eyes on things which are unseen and eternal. Most of all, fix our eyes on Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith. May we seek first His kingdom and righteousness, trusting that You will not withhold any good thing from Your children. Private Confession Words of Assurance He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of His beloved Son, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. My soul hath a desire and longing to enter into the courts of the Lord; my heart and my flesh rejoice in the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found her an house, and the swallow a nest where she may lay her young, even Thy altars, O Lord of hosts, my King and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in Thy house; they will be alway praising Thee. The glorious majesty of the Lord our God be upon us; prosper Thou the work of our hands upon us. O prosper Thou our handy work. O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come, our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home. - 4 -

Order of Worship for the Home The Week of February 15, 2015 Praise Call to Worship (everyone together) Come, everyone who thirsts, come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. Christ Triumphant, Ever Reigning (read or sing these words together) Please see the hymn on page two. Hearing and Learning God s Word Scripture Reading: John 4.1-42 (one person read the Scripture aloud) Questions for Discussion (may be answered in one worship time or spread over several times) 1. How does this story reveal to us that Jesus is fully man and fully God? 2. What does Jesus offer the woman? 3. What is significant about the water Jesus is talking about? 4. How can a person receive this water? Questions for older children 1. Why did Jesus have to pass through Samaria? (see verse 4) 2. List all the different intersections you see in this passage. 3. Describe the meaning of this water offered by Christ. 4. Have you received this living water? Scripture Memory for February: (memorize these verses of Scripture this month) John 5.19-20 So Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, the Son can do nothing of His own accord, but only what He sees the Father doing. For whatever the Father does, that the Son does likewise. 20 For the Father loves the Son and shows Him all that He Himself is doing. And greater works than these will He show Him, so that you may marvel. Prayer Prayer (saying together) Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name; Thy Kingdom come; Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil; for Thine is the Kingdom, and the power and the glory forever. Amen. - 9 -
