JACOB PHILIP, SHIRLEY TITUS, SARIKA MATHEW DESIGNERS: PRAVIN MATHEW & RAEANN TITUS Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, Please visit stpaulandresurrection.org for the lectionary God has blessed us with another new month. The month of November Special marks Occasions the end of daylight saving time and the beginning of cold temperatures ahead of us. November is also the month we observe Thanksgiving. This is a time to look at all the blessings we have enjoyed in the past years and especially in the current year and be surprised by God s bounty to us! Thanksgiving is at the core of human beings whether we are in America or in any part of the globe. These ten months of 2015 have been a difficult time for some of us and for some others a time of prosperity. Whether all our dreams came true during this year or not, if we take an objective evaluation of the past months, we see silver linings amidst clouds of confusion and uncertainties. Thanksgiving helps us to stop from our frantic run, count the blessings, name them one by one, and be surprised by what the Lord has done. The Lord has bestowed us with ordinary blessings such as food, water, shelter, health, family and friends whom we often take for granted! Some of us are blessed with special blessings such as a marriage, birth of a new baby, new job, healing from illness etc. Some others went through or are going through a very difficult time which we have never experienced before. But the good news is that even those difficult situations become a blessing (difficult blessings) because we learn more in our valley experiences than on our mountain top life. Above all we can ever be thankful because of the greatest blessing of salvation we have in Jesus Christ. May God surround us, keeping light within and darkness without, warmth within and coldness without, gratitude within and grumbling without, hope within and despair without, during this season of Thanksgiving and all the days of our lives. THANKSGIVING NOW gracious plenty rules the board, And in the purse is gold; By multitudes in glad accord, Thy giving is extolled. Ah, suffer me to thank Thee, Lord, For what thou dost withhold! I thank Thee that howe'er we climb, There yet is something higher; That though through all our reach of time, We to the stars aspire, Still, still beyond us burns sublime, The pure sidereal fire! I thank Thee for the unexplained, The hope that lies before, The victory that is not gained, O Father, more and more I thank Thee for the unattained, The good we hunger for! I thank Thee for the voice that sings, To inner depths of being; For all the spread and sweep of wings, From earthly bondage freeing; For mystery the dream of things, Beyond our power of seeing! The centerpiece of contemporary Thanksgiving in the United States and Canada is a large meal, generally centered on a large turkey. The majority of dishes in the traditional version of Thanksgiving Dinner are made from foods native to the New World, as according to tradition, the Pilgrims received the foods from Native Americans. However, many of the classic traditions attributed to the first Thanksgiving are actually myths later introduced.
