MESSAGE BY PROGRAMME COORDINATOR: The society for Social Services provides volunteer with a glimpse of the life of public service and a forum through which they learn to address the problems of the less privileged from a position of institutional power. In the process they engage themselves in meaningful hands on activities which are both gratifying and great learning exercises. It gives me great pleasure to acknowledge the hard work put in by the Volunteers of NSS in rejuvenating and strengthening the activities of the Society. Events related to Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, Digital India, Skill India, Women Empowerment and many more were done by the NSS volunteer as detailed in the report. The enthusiasm, energy and focus that was exhibited by the office bearers of the society and the volunteers was exemplary. In the words of Gandhi, The best way to find you is to lose yourself in the service of others. The Volunteers, under the aegis of the Society, have begun the journey of self realization well and I am sure that they would continue to direct their creative energy to the cause of greater good and make the academy and the nation proud. 25-01-2017 DAY 1 The day started with a lot of enthusiasm and overwhelming zeal. The camp was flagged off from The NorthCap University at around 11:30 a.m. by (Rtd.) Brig. S.K. Sharma, Vice Chancellor The NorthCap University. On reaching the camping site at Abheypur Village every single volunteer was filled with this gleaming sense of responsibility to do something for the betterment of human race. The motto of NSS "Not Me But You", which reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for self-less service was upheld all throughout the camp by the volunteers. Firstly, the Core team of NSS Cell formed three different groups, such that every group had volunteers from different departments which included both male and female volunteers. Work was assigned and duties were given to all the volunteers for the Camp. After doing all the preparations the volunteers visited the village, interacted with the villagers and initiated the first task with full force. The very first agenda that we had on our list was The Cleanliness Drive.Under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan initiated by our honorable Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The volunteers spread awareness among the villagers about cleanliness and how it will help our country to move forward. The volunteers also made the villagers aware of the need to have toilets and informed them about various initiatives the government has taken in this direction. Volunteers were actively involved in the cleanliness drive. They enthusiastically took up brooms and garbage bags to clean up. People were given handy tips to keep their surroundings clean. On the way back we educated people on how keeping the area clean can lead to reduction of diseases like Diarrhea, Malaria and Stomach Infections.

In the afternoon session the thoughts and actions of the volunteers went wallowing over the streets of the village. People learned importance of REDUCE, REUSE and RECYCLE. With the thought that Today s Youth will be the leaders of Tomorrow, an interactive session was also held with the kids on the importance of cleanliness. 26-01-2017 DAY 2 After having the breakfast our volunteers were ready for the day. All the volunteers headed towards the village. Our next activity was to perform a street play in the presence of the Sarpanch and the villagers. The story line of play was focused on Women Empowerment. It encouraged the women to raise their voice against the evil elements of society. Awareness about the women rights is very necessary for a healthy society. Girl or a woman if educated or groomed well can lead a nation. Main aim of the play was to awaken the women spirit and let them realize their importance so that they can live an independent life. The villagers watched the play and appreciated all the volunteers for their noble effort. After the play, we invited the children of the village especially the girls for Self Defense Training. After the successful event, the volunteers left for the camping site.

In the evening, our 4 volunteers along with the trainer started the self defense programme. All the volunteers and children enthusiastically participated in the Self-defense training programme. Judo was also imparted in the programme along with some traditional techniques. Some basic knowledge about self defense moves was given. Basic techniques like get loud and push backward were performed by our volunteers. All the children participated in the training and enjoyed the evening. In the end all the children were given momento by the volunteers. 27-01-2017 DAY 3 Third day began with the Yoga and Meditation. Volunteers and teachers invited villagers at the camp to make them aware of the benefits of yogic exercise and meditation. Volunteers with the help of Mrs. Sunil Malik Sports Trainer, The NorthCap University emphasized the need for yoga practice for a healthy and holistic lifestyle. The history, different type and benefits of yoga were also explained. We also gave many tips that should be kept in mind before, during and after the yogic practices. This was followed by practicing yoga by all the participants under the guidance of Mrs. Sunil.

The event was concluded with a very encouraging speech by Dr. Ashwini Sharma who appreciated and praised the efforts put in by students. He advised that yoga should be done on daily basis by everyone. 28-01-2017 DAY 4 The day started with preparation s of the inaugural ceremony. The Inauguration Ceremony started at 11 a.m with the arrival of the Chief Guest Mr. Satish Yadav - SDM Sohna, Sarpanch of Abheypur Village and Mr. Satbhir Pehalwan. In his address Mr. Yadav said that the NSS has always played a big role in moulding students who remained committed to the development of the society. He emphasized on the conservation of nature. Col. Bikram Mohanty, Registrar The NorthCap University delivered the keynote address. The presence of Col. Bikram Mohanty made the programme very effective, delightful and grand as his elegant and appealing speech made a deep, thoughtful and objective impression on all the volunteers and villagers. After all the inspiring words a small cultural programe was performed by the volunteers. The programme began with the singing of Vande Matram by NSS volunteers. A regional dance was also performed by the volunteers. The inauguration ceremony was concluded with the National Anthem.

After that Mr. Satish Yadav - SDM Sohna along with Shri Satbhir Pehalwan, Sarpanch Abheypur inaugurated the plantation drive. With all the motivation and enthusiasm, in the evening, the volunteers headed towards the village with banners in their hands and slogans on their mouth and the work for the upcoming events began. 29-01-2017 DAY 5 The fifth day began with the zeal to do something for the nature. The volunteers of NSS initiated the plantation drive at various places near the village and made people aware about Green India and its benefits. The volunteers under the guidance of the Program coordinator Mrs. Jyotsna Singh planted 200 saplings in the village at various places like in government schools, near roads etc. The volunteers also had an interactive session with the school children and the villagers, they also helped the volunteers in planting the trees and took the oath that they will also plant at least one tree near their homes and will also protect it throughout its life.

The volunteers also taught the school children about Green Technology and its Importance in future. 30-01-2017 DAY 6 This day was about the Digital India Campaign which was initiated by our Prime Minister. We decided to explore the nearby localities and explain to the people about this movement. On 30th January we headed towards the village. Our team of volunteers along with 4 teachers carrying posters on Digital India walked with a clear aim to aware the locals about the ongoing transition in our economy. Our motive was not only to create awareness but also to clear their confusion and motivated them to follow the prescribed guidelines given by the government about the campaign. Our event was chaired by the Sarpanch of the village along with many teachers and the principal of the school who allowed us to address the kids about the same. We divided ourselves into groups and gathered the local crowd and explained to them the entire concept of plastic money via activities like Paytm and E-banking and the need to go cashless. We gave live demonstrations on our cellular phones showing how to use the internet to make payments or do just about anything hence making their lives easy. This event lasted for an entire day and we returned to our camps in the evening where we prepared for the next day. Our goal to meet the masses and reciprocate in every which way we could, was met with.

31-01-2017 DAY 7 On the last day of the camp all the members of the team along with the faculty coordinators went to the village for the Skill India programme. Aim of Skill India Initiation is to create opportunities, space and scope for the development of the talents of the Indian Youth. Sarpanch of Abheypur village encouraged the idea behind the Skill India programme and said that it is not just a programme but a movement. The idea of this event was to raise confidence, improve productivity and give direction through proper skill development. Ladies of the village were weaving clothes and all of us were impressed by their skills. They showed us the process of weaving the clothes and each one of us tried to do the same. It was something new for all of us, everyone was happy and we thanked the Sarpanch and the villagers for giving us such an opportunity.
