WELCOME GUESTS AND MEMBERS TO THIS SERVICE OF WORSHIP November 2, 2014 Twenty First Sunday after Pentecost 10:00 a.m. A Celebration of the Communion of Saints THE GATHERING GATHERING MUSIC Beloved, Let Us Love! GREETING AND WELCOME The Band Pastor Jeff Hansen TIME OF SINGING Open the Eyes of My Heart Chorus Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart; I want to see You, I want to see You. Open the eyes of my heart, Lord, open the eyes of my heart; I want to see You, I want to see You. To see You high and lifted up, shining in the light of Your glory. Pour out Your pow r and love; As we sing holy, holy, holy. High and lifted up, shining in the light of Your glory. Pour out Your pow r and love; As we sing holy, holy, holy. Holy, holy, holy, holy, holy, holy; Holy, holy, holy, I want to see You. I m Gonna Live So God Can Use Me I'm gonna live so God can use me. Anywhere Lord, anytime! I'm gonna live so God can use me. Anywhere Lord, anytime! I m gonna work I m gonna pray I m gonna sing *CALL TO WORSHIP One: We celebrate all of the saints today, All: Those who are fully, physically present, One: Those who have gone on ahead All: To whatever it is that awaits us all, One: Yet who surround us still, All: As a great cloud of witnesses, One: And you! How could it be all saints without you! CCLI License No. 1027861 *HYMN OF PRAISE Rejoice in God s Saints No. 708 *OPENING PRAYER One: A world without saints forgets how to praise and more than that! So let us pray together. All: God of saints and sinners alike, it is a forgetful world. Out of sight, out of mind, could be our motto. But, as guilty of that as we can be, today we re here to remember. We remember sisters and brothers who have died. We see in our minds the faces of loved ones who ve been gone a long time, yet who are woven into the fabric of our lives even now. And we recall your promise of a whole, new creation, that will include and encompass all, reaching beyond all limits and losses, all endings and grief. Doesn t such a promise claim and re-shape this moment, and all that it contains, including us, in Christ? Amen.

THE WORD EXCHANGE OF PEACE ATTENDING TO EACH OTHER As we join in the Ministry of Presence, please sign and pass the forms along the pew and then pass them back paying attention to those around you. Another way of attending to each other is to fill out a yellow prayer concern/joy card and placing it in the offering plate. You are welcome to do that. SCRIPTURE READINGS I Thessalonians 2:9-13 p. 248 Matthew 5:1:12 p. 4 One: All: For the word of God in scripture, within, among, and beyond us, Thanks be to God! May we too have the courage to live fully all our remaining days, in grace and trust, so that we are indeed a blessing to all those around us, as well as those yet to come, in Jesus name and spirit. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLE *OFFERING THANKS AT THE TABLE One: The God of all be with you! All: And also with you! One: Lift up your hearts. All: We lift them to the Lord. One: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God, All: It is right to give our thanks and praise. (Please remain standing for the first part of the thanksgiving prayer.) THE LORD S PRAYER Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. SHARING THE BREAD AND CUP (Jesus invites and welcomes everyone to his table. You are invited to come and receive a piece of bread from a server, dip it in the cup and eat. (Intinction is the fancy word for this!) If you have an offering to make, bring it and place it in one of the plates on the tables at the front. You may also write your prayer concerns on the yellow cards and put them in the plate. Relax. Enjoy communion with each other in the spirit of Christ!) CLOSING PRAYER Gracious One, at your table we are given a taste of the new reality that is and is to be, the allinclusive communion of saints and sinners! We thank you. May we give ourselves fully to that promise so that it comes alive in us, even this very moment, in Jesus name and spirit! Amen. G.I.F.T. PRESENTATION The real meaning of stewardship Doug Cozad THE SENDING *CLOSING SONG Blest Are They (verses 1, 3, and 5)

*A BLESSED SENDING One: Blest are you! All: Yours is the kingdom of God! One: Let that truth re-make you and your reality continually from here on! God send you, the Spirit fill you, Christ go with you and you with Christ, always and everywhere! Amen! God bless. Go in peace. Amen. CLOSING MUSIC Jerry Rubino (In respect for those who wish to remain and enjoy the closing music, please meet and greet your friends, new and old, over coffee in the lobby. UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), as well as social justice areas of many other faith communities use the sale of organic, fair trade products to help small farmers make a living and farm in an environmentally sustainable way. We will sell these products slightly over wholesale and use the small proceeds to offset the extra cost of serving fair trade coffee and tea on Sunday mornings. These products will be available every second Sunday of the month. Book Study is on Monday, November 10, at 6:30 p.m., in the Fireside Room. Did you Know? Our new website has an online calendar with an RSS feed. Check it out at www.spiritofhopeumc.org. She will also lead a discussion during the Adult Forum at 9:00 a.m. Dr. Voelkel is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ who is currently serving as the Interim Director for PFund Foundation. She is a theologian, pastor, and organizer and has devoted her life's ministry to following Jesus' command to minister in partnership with "the least of these," ones whom society has deemed as outcast, unclean or unworthy. Altar Flowers If you would like to remember a birthday, anniversary, or other occasion, sign up on the upper lobby bulletin board to purchase the altar flowers on a special Sunday. The cost is $25. There are a couple more openings this year, and the 2015 chart is up. Please sign up TODAY! Be sure to take your arrangement home after the worship service on that special Sunday. Lost and Found Has anyone seen a white, electronic, 2-piece magnifying glass? If so, please turn it in to the office. Thank you! Calendar and Announcements For the weekly calendar of events, please check out our new website at www.spiritofhopeumc.org or The Voice newsletter.
