Pentecost Sunday Veni Sancte Spiritus Come, Holy Spirit, come! And from your celestial home, shed a ray of light divine!" By the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost, Christ's paschal mystery was brought to completion. The Holy Spirit prepares us with his grace in order to draw us to Christ. The Holy Spirit manifests the risen Lord to us, opening our minds. He makes present the mystery of Christ, and He reconciles us, bringing us into communion with God. St. Thomas Aquinas says that the Holy Spirit interiorly perfects our spirit, communicating to it a new dynamism, so that it refrains from evil for love. St. Cyril of Alexandra wrote: with the Holy Spirit within us it is quite natural for people who had been absorbed by the things of this world to become entirely other worldly in their outlook, and for cowards to become people of great courage. O most blessed Light divine, shine within these hearts of yours, and our inmost being fill!" Fr. Matt, Pastor Thank You to Fr. Thierry Due to Fr. Thierry's illness, and his continued need for rest and healing, he will continue on a long-term medical leave. He will convalesce at his home in Mountain View. Donate Furniture to Thomas House The main floor rooms of the Thomas House (refurbished rectory at St. Thomas Aquinas Church) are the target for furniture and floor coverings. The STA Site Committee is assessing the spaces and is now actively seeking the following: Area rugs of all sizes, especially 8 x 11 up to 15 x 18. Dining room table or refectory table and chairs. Other chairs and credenza. Cooking pots of all sizes, and kitchen utensils. Desks, bookcases and filing cabinet. Vacuum sweeper. The Site Committee is being selective about donated furnishings, looking for quality used items that will blend with each other and enhance the period feel of the house. If you are downsizing and wish your treasured pieces to have an ongoing useful life, contact Site Committee member Ted Baer, tabaer@sbcglobal. net, 321-6179. (Ted has a truck and can pick up donations--and will take them to St. Vincent de Paul if they don't work out for the Thomas House.) From Sr. Adella: My Missioning Dear St. Thomas Aquinas Family, I would like to communicate the news of my departure from St. Elizabeth Seton School. In the tradition of the order of the Daughters of Charity, I am being missioned. This means I must move on to another Daughter of Charity sponsored school which finds itself in greater need of my services as Principal. In this case the inner city school of Our Lady of Talpa in Los Angeles. My last day here will be June 14, 2011. I have been blessed to be part of this parish! You have been so good to St. Elizabeth Seton School; you will always have a special place in my heart and in my prayers! Gratefully, Sr. Adella, D.C. Life & Dignity Sunday Set for June 26, 2011 At the request of Bishop McGrath all parishes in the Diocese of San Jose will be focusing attention on our civic responsibilities by inviting interested parishioners to register for a newly created Catholic Legislative Network. It has been described as a Voice for Life and Dignity in California. Next weekend there will be a onepage explanation of the Network and Life & Dignity Sunday in our parish bulletin. Please read it and then carefully and prayerfully consider registering for the Catholic Legislative Network on June 26. Finance Advisory Council Seeks New Members The Finance Advisory Council (FAC) is a consultative body to the pastor. It has the mission and duty of being good stewards overseeing and advising the Pastor in regards to the treasure entrusted to him on behalf of us all. It meets every month on the 3rd Wednesday. We are currently on the look-out for a few new members. The basic qualifications are: 1) Registered and active member of our parish; 2) A willingness to make recommendations for the good of the whole community without recourse to any special interest group; 3) One who has demonstrated the ability to work well within a group. If interested, please e-mail Fr. Matt (mstanley@dsj.org). Deadline is June 30, 2011.

June 12, 2011 Children need rides to Hidden Villa The Summer Camp at Beautiful Hidden Villa Ranch on Moody Rd. in Los Altos Hills, will be providing scholarships for 65 children from East Palo Alto and East Menlo Park this summer. For the last 25 years, the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St Francis Church has helped over 1500 children take advantage of these scholarships. The transportation of the children to Hidden Villa needs the support of many volunteer drivers. The majority of the driving involves 27 day campers, three per session for 9 sessions These sessions start at 9 am and end at 4 pm. The other 38 campers stay overnight for one or two weeks and need rides up on Mondays and home on Fridays, The program starts June 20 and ends August 19. Please consider helping to ease the transportation problem in making Hidden Villa available to the East Palo Alto / East Menlo Park children. For more information and to schedule a time to drive, please call George Chippendale, 856-6350 Rooted in Faith Campaign Update The Catholic Foundation of Santa Clara County is pleased to grant a distribution of Parish Share funds from the Rooted in Faith Capital Campaign based upon the quarter ending 3/31/2011. The current disbursement amount is $11,243 bringing the total amount disbursed to $182,941 for St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. The $11,243 being disbursed is a result of the collection of $23,302 in the quarter. To date, we have collected $1,428,920 from donors in St. Thomas Aquinas Parish. As of 3/31/2011, collections from the Rooted in Faith campaign exceeded $61M. The generosity of our donors is deep and sustained. Payments back to the parishes total $6.9M. We are encouraged to see the growth and use of our endowed funds. As of 3/31/2011, the balance of all funds was $32.4M. By utilizing only the income from the endowed funds for grants, we are preserving the principal, and therefore our ability to continue supporting the Catholic community of Santa Clara County, for generations to come. For example, we have granted $205K to Seminarian Training, $474K to Tuition Assistance, and $225K to Youth and Young Adult Ministry. All of these grants came from income on endowed funds. Thank you for your continued generosity to our local Church and our parish.
