MARCH 3, 2019
THE WEEKLY WORD by Pastor Andrew Hook I wasn t supposed to be here. I had already had the three mandatory interviews at three other churches and I was stuck. I hadn t figured out which of the three churches I was offered to choose between was the one I felt God was calling me to go serve. But then something funny happened. The day that I was supposed to call my DS with my preferences, I received a phone call from the Rev. Dr. Chappell Temple wanting to have a conversation. That led to a conversation with the SPRC committee. That led to me flying in that Sunday afternoon from North Carolina and meeting with people and leaders here at Christ Church. By the time I got back to the airport on Monday morning to fly back to North Carolina, I was able to call my wife and say, It s Christ Church. This is where we are called to serve. Thankfully, the leadership here felt the same. It s only been 20 short months since I began serving as Pastor of Family Life at Christ Church Sugar Land, but it took even less time for my family and I to fall absolutely in love with Sugar Land and with the people that make up this church. We could clearly see that God was doing great things through this church and we believed that God wanted to do even more. And it has been an incredible honor to be a part of that work for this all too short period of time. However, being a Methodist pastor means I go where sent and I am being sent to Magnolia. But I wholeheartedly believe I am being sent because of how this church has trained me and taught me how to be a better pastor. I will forever treasure this time that God let us walk together. To quote our senior pastor, Sugar Land is indeed the sweetest place on earth, a place without equal. May God bless Christ Church Sugar Land richly. Welcome! Are you new at Christ Church? Please stop by our I m New Here, table downstairs in the Gathering Hall to learn more about our church. OUR PASTORS Dr. C.
