The virtues of spiritual childhood which Jesus was praising before the twelve apostles are: surrender, trust, and humility. Becoming little means surrendering to God with humble trust. The spiritually little person surrenders to God with trust, and awaits everything from God. Saint Therese of Lisieux taught: an important part of being spiritually little, like a child, is not falling into the illusion that we re suppose to be without faults or sins so God will love us. In his letter to the Corinthians, Saint Paul tells them what he heard from God. St. Paul heard from God. Be at peace with your weakness. By trusting in the Lord s tender love, we do become at peace with our faults. Then God will bless our faults into blessings. We pray the mercy prayer which Jesus told St. Faustina that he desires us to pray: Jesus I trust in you. It is crucial to surrender in trust --- to give up control of our spiritual lives, so God will be allowed to do his work in us. There is an analogy. A huge block of marble remained in an Italian quarry for decades. Since it was flawed nobody wanted it. Michael Angelo stared at it for a long time. Then he purchased it. From that flawed marble he carved the David, which is considered the world s most beautiful piece of sculpture. God is like a potter. Our faults are clay in his creative hands. God molds our faults into something eternally beautiful. Learn from Saint Paul: be at peace with your weakness. And learn from Saint Therese: an important part of being spiritually little, like a child, is not falling into the illusion that we re suppose to be without faults or sins so God will love us. God loved us first. Turn with trust to become a little one. Surrender and await everything from God. Chaplain, Rev. Leonard Traverso NAVIGATOR S MESSAGE My Faithful Sir Knights, Happy Halloween! Yes, those are Halloween decorations your significant other is telling you to put up. Costco is almost sold out of Halloween items and Christmas décor has been out for at least a month. You know what that means. Christmas is just around the corner. The Holi-
days have always blurred up and by like that for me. Fortunately, we still have time to integrate our duties to our families, our jobs, and the Knights. For 4 th Degree planning purposes, I would ask you to closely look at the Color Corps Commander s input. We have several requests for Color during the month of October. Our traditional November activity will be on November th, Veterans Day, where our Assembly will be conducting the flag raising ceremony at the Milpitas City Hall. Watch the Color Corps Commander s articles and pay very close attention to his broadcast e-mails. Hopefully you can support these requests. Please consider joining the Color Corps if you are not already a member. The justifications are still the same. Remember that SK Ed Blake and I have available many of the Regalia items for open ended loan to help with initial outlays of cash for qualified 4 th Degree members. Most of you are aware that our new District Master for the Northern District is SK JC Greco. Returning to the upcoming Exemplification, the packet says the Exemplification is to occur on the st, 2 nd, and 3 rd of February, 203. The actual Event is the 2 nd, with activities the day before and the day after. It is to be held in Rohnert Park at the Doubletree Hotel, and, for the two people in this audience who care, it is actually the Northern California District East, Junipero Serra Province Fourth Degree. (I would have thought West, but some things just don t make sense.).until next month. God Bless, Skip Yenchik, Faithful Navigator St. Joseph s Assembly, #2246 COLOR CORPS COMMANDER MESSAGE Faithful Sir Knights The month of September proved to be an active one for our Color Corps. Not only did we have some of our newer members take their first dip into the participation pool but we also had the opportunity to demonstrate the expression that the Fourth Degree is indeed the Visible Arm of the Order. We start our column this month recognizing the appointment of our new Northern California Master, J.C. Greco. As you recall, J.C. Greco was one of Romy Quevedo s Marshals for the four (4) years that he served as Master. Master J.C. has already made his appointments. He will retain SK Vince Perpetuo as his Executive Secretary and has appointed SK Gary Marley, SK Tim Fukata, as his new Marshals and has retained SK Michael Langer who with Master J.C. served as a Marshal under Romy Quevedo. We wish these Sir Knights a good administration and we welcome their ideas and directions to advance and grow the Fourth Degree. Activities wise, on September 5 th, members of our Color Corps were present for the installation of officers of the San Jose Chapter. The installation ceremony was conducted by our State Deputy, Raymond Warriner, PhD. Newly appointed Northern California Master, SK J.C. Greco, center, and his District Marshalls Left, SK Michael Langer, and, Right, SK Tim Fukata. Not pictured, District Marshall SK Gary Marley I have made no secret that he was my first choice. The really significant point for us is SK Greco has apparently been graced by SK Vince Perpetuo agreeing to stay on for at least one more year as the District Secretary. (What that means to Skip and how does that affect me?) Well, the information for this Columbian year s 4 th Degree Exemplification in Rohnert Park has already been published by our District Secretary. So, again, for planning purposes, we have complete packets of information to hand out to prospective 4 th Degree candidates. Come on guys, if someone in your Council has been expressing a desire to know more about the Color Corps or 4 th Degree, give me or SK Ed a jingle. You get the credit and we get more members. And it s important for you to know that our Faithful Comptroller, SK Ed Blake, has been working deligently on making the Form 4 more relevant to the 2 st century. I want to take this opportunity to acknowledge those members of our Color Corps who participated in the installation Mass and the installation ceremony that followed: SKs Skip Yenchik, Faithful Navigator, Marciano Estioko, Leonardo Garcia-Ariaza, David Marshall, and a special recognition to Sir Knights Ervin Reyes and Joseph Ruggiero as they made their debut as members of our Color Corps. For the installation ceremony, in addition to myself, SKs Skip Yenchik, Marciano Estioko, and David Marshall stayed behind to assist. 2
SKs Marciano Estioko, and David Marshal escort Sam Teresi during his installation as chapter Advocate. State Deputy Raymond Warriner converses with CCC Ed Blake and SK Dave Marshall prior to the installation. The very next day, our Color Corps services were requested for the kickoff Mass for the St. Elizabeth Festival. We were honored to escort and do honors for the Rt. Rev. Thomas Daly, Auxiliary Bishop of the Diocese of San Jose. Recognition for those members of our Color Corps who participated go out to SKs Tim Crews, Greg Dessel, Ruben Esguerra, Marciano Estioko, Leonardo Garcia-Araiza, David Marshall, Ervin Reyes, and Joseph Ruggiero. I want to take this opportunity to give special recognition to SK Ed Kantack who suited up but suffered a health related matter that caused him to excuse himself. We re happy to report that Ed returned afterwards and back to his normal self. Fr. Michael Hendrickson, Pastor of St. Victor s, reads the opening prayer of the installation ceremony. SK Skip Yenchik and a mighty fine bunch of our Color Corps posed for this picture prior to the start of the Mass. CCC Ed Blake was discussing with Bishop Daly whether or not we could use our swords. We were very pleased to say that His Excellency said, If you have swords, use them. And we did. SKs Skip Yenchik, FN, and Ed Blake, CCC escort SK Ralph Manfredo as he is sworn in as the new President of the San Jose Chapter. 4
