Spring Cleaning Numbers 5 November 12, 2017 Pastor Wayne Hart West Clarksville Baptist Church
Scripture Reading Numbers 5:1-10
Pastor 1 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2 Command the children of Israel that they put out of the camp every leper, everyone who has a discharge, and whoever becomes defiled by a corpse.
Congregation 3 You shall put out both male and female; you shall put them outside the camp, that they may not defile their camps in the midst of which I dwell.
Pastor 4 And the children of Israel did so, and put them outside the camp; as the LORD spoke to Moses, so the children of Israel did.
Congregation 5 Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, 6 Speak to the children of Israel: When a man or woman commits any sin that men commit in unfaithfulness against the LORD, and that person is guilty,
Pastor 7 then he shall confess the sin which he has committed. He shall make restitution for his trespass in full, plus one-fifth of it, and give it to the one he has wronged.
Congregation 8 But if the man has no relative to whom restitution may be made for the wrong, the restitution for the wrong must go to the LORD for the priest, in addition to the ram of the atonement with which atonement is made for him.
Pastor 9 Every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring to the priest, shall be his.
Congregation 10 And every man s holy things shall be his; whatever any man gives the priest shall be his.
Observation #1 The common denominator: the effects of sin
Observation #2 God s holiness means purity, and perfection is demanded.
Observation #3 There is a practical matter
Observation #4 None of these things are necessarily permanent
Observation #5 Further instruction on where to camp
Observation #6 Something deeper must be going on
Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19 21, NKJV)
Either make the tree good and its fruit good, or else make the tree bad and its fruit bad; for a tree is known by its fruit. Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned. (Matthew 12:33 37, NKJV)
But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death. (James 1:14 15, NKJV)
Main Idea: To be obedient, I must maintain certain attitudes towards sin
Obedience means 1. Separation from Sin
Job 22:23 (NKJV) 23 If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up; You will remove iniquity far from your tents.
2 Corinthians 6:14 7:3 (NKJV) 14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people. 17 Therefore Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you.
18 I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the Lord Almighty. 1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
2Open your hearts to us. We have wronged no one, we have corrupted no one, we have cheated no one. 3I do not say this to condemn; for I have said before that you are in our hearts, to die together and to live together.
1 Corinthians 5:8 13 (NKJV) 8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, nor with the leaven of malice and wickedness, but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth. 9 I wrote to you in my epistle not to keep company with sexually immoral people. 10 Yet I certainly did not mean with the sexually immoral people of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world.
11 But now I have written to you not to keep company with anyone named a brother, who is sexually immoral, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or an extortioner not even to eat with such a person. 12 For what have I to do with judging those also who are outside? Do you not judge those who are inside? 13 But those who are outside God judges. Therefore put away from yourselves the evil person.
Obedience means 1. Separation from Sin a desire to disassociate with sin. 2. Restitution for Sin -
Matthew 3:7 9 (NKJV) 7 But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming to his baptism, he said to them, Brood of vipers! Who warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Therefore bear fruits worthy of repentance, 9 and do not think to say to yourselves, We have Abraham as our father
Acts 26:20 (NKJV) 20 but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.
Conclusion Trust and Obey, for there is no other way to be cleansed from sin.
Where do we go from here?
