FEBRUARY 25, 2018 From today s Gospel reading: Jesus took Peter, James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves. He was transfigured before them and his clothes became dazzling white, such as no fuller on earth could bleach them. Reflection: It is Lent and we are praying for our own spiritual transfiguration in God s love. In obedience to God may our lives reflect more deeply that of Jesus, who consistently showed, through his words and actions and finally through his death, God s love for all. So, we ask ourselves: - Where in my life do I need a spiritual transfiguration to better reflect God s love? - To whom am I called to better enflesh God s accepting love? ADULT ENRICHMENT EVENINGS All parishioners are invited to participate in the ongoing sessions offered by Deacon John Amlag from 6:00 to 7:00pm in the chapel. Tuesday evening sessions focus on Living Life in the Holy Spirit. Thursday evening sessions focus on Jesuit Spirituality in everyday life. Come and be blessed by these opportunities for learning and faith sharing with fellow parishioners. CRUCIFIX: SPIRITUALITY, ART &THEOLOGY Wednesday, February 28, 7:00pm, social hall Jesus hangs on the Cross: why do Christians have such an attachment to this image of sorrow, pain, and death? Explore with us this coming week: the Crucifix as interpreted in history, by cultures and artistic media. This session will include opportunities to reflect on what the Crucifix means to our parish community as we look to our future renovation and how the image of Christ crucified will inspire our future. BELATED BIRTHDAY WISHES! Our prayers for many more years of good health & happiness go out to Celerina Beltran who just celebrated her 82 birthday! God Bless. MONDAY MOVIE, SOUP & BREAD Please join us in our SOUP AND BREAD SUPPERS, a simple, sacrificial meal that we share with our Holy Trinity family, and in prayerful solidarity with the hungry of the world. Soup will be served each MONDAY EVENING beginning on February 26, from 5:30 to 6:15pm in the social hall through March 19. A free will offering will be taken up each week to support the Rice Bowl Program. Immediately following there will be a showing of a contemporary, inspirational and thought provoking movie to help us reflect on our lives of faith and discipleship. DACA CALL-IN DAY This past Friday, the bishops of the United States announced a national Catholic call-in day to Congress, to express support for Dreamers. The call to congressional offices in Washington, D.C., will take place Monday, February 26. Your advocacy is critical to help the nearly 1.8 million Dreamers, young people who were brought into the United States by their parents as children. They may face deportation as soon as March 6, unless Congress reaches a bi-partisan deal to protect them. Please see the flyer on our website for information on how you may participate and copies are also available in the entryways. JERICHO WALK Come join us for the annual gathering on Saturday, March 3 at Holy Trinity Church parking lot at 11am, for a procession to the Planned Parenthood site, with Stations of the Cross presented by the OLSOS Missionary Team and youth! HOLY TRINITY LEADERSHIP DISCERNMENT 2018 Our parish family is seeking new members to serve on our Parish Consultative Bodies to include the PASTORAL and FINANCE COUNCILS, and the LITURGY, FAITH FORMATION and SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMISSIONS. It is important that we discern leaders who are willing make an investment and commitment of their time and energy as we look to the important work of planning for the future life of our parish family. We ask you to prayerfully search your heart about whether you are being called to take an active servant minister role in helping set the direction for the parish now and in the years ahead. Perhaps you may know someone whom you believe has the gifts and abilities for leadership and service. Individuals recommended for membership on any Parish Consultative Body should be: A baptized, confirmed, practicing Roman Catholic registered in the parish and in good standing in the Church, i.e., living a lifestyle in keeping with Gospel values and virtues. If married, the marriage must be a valid marriage celebrated in the presence of a priest and deacon and two witnesses, unless a dispensation has been obtained Committed to Stewardship the sharing of time, talent, and financial resources to the best of one s ability A regular participant in the sacramental life of the Church, especially weekly Sunday Eucharist, and motivated by the desire for spiritual growth in oneself and others Optimistic and enthusiastic about the future of the parish and eager about facilitating parish efforts to identify and live out its mission and goals Desirous of working within a model of shared leadership, i.e., one based not on power, but on collaboration and consensus Capable of careful listening respectfully to others ideas, of articulating one s own ideas, and of practicing the art of building consensus Willing and open to devoting the time and energy required to regular and special meetings and planned events We ask all in the parish to pray for the guidance of the Holy Spirit as we seek to discern leaders who will help us vision and provide guidance for the future. Come, O Holy Spirit of the living God, and show us your ways. Guide our Parish Discernment of those who are called to the ministry of leadership in and through the work of our Councils and Commissions. Grant us the wisdom to know our gifts and call us to put those gifts at the service of your people. Give us zeal and holy courage to respond generously to your invitation and grant your grace to all in our parish as we seek to live out the saving mission and ministry of Jesus. We pray this in his name, who with you and the sustaining father is one God, forever and ever.
