One of the most familiar passages of the Old Testament is found in Isaiah 9:6-7: For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this. What most people overlook in this passage is the context of those rich prophetic words. In Isaiah 7-8, we read about hard circumstances. God s people were pushed to the limit. They felt hopeless amidst enemies that were seeking to destroy them. In the overwhelming darkness, a bright light appears. It s the light of Jesus. It s the light that gives us hope. It s the light that makes order out of chaos, hope out of despair. Just as God s people in the past discovered the One who was, and is, and is to come, we can live with that same confidence. God, in His divine sovereignty, has placed you on earth at this time for a reason. Your life has purpose and meaning. You are not an accident. When we follow Him, all the pieces of the puzzle fit together. Our hardest moments now make sense, and a bright future shines ahead of us. This confidence is totally based on the foundation of the One who was and is and is to come! Embrace it! Live it! Share it! Use Your IRA to Support Ministries and Save on Taxes The IRA Charitable Rollover, originally enacted in 2006 and extended several times, has been made permanent. If you have an IRA and need to take a Required Minimum Distribution, the IRA Charitable Rollover can help you decrease your tax liability and support NMC or other ministries. Here are the details: Benefits: The gift counts towards the minimum required distribution. You can give up to $100,000 per year to qualifying charities from an IRA, and the distribution does not count as taxable income to you. Even if you don t itemize deductions on your tax return, you can benefit from the IRA Charitable Rollover. The gift decreases income (instead of increasing deductions like most charitable gifts). Requirements: You must have reached age 70 ½. Gift must be made directly from your IRA to the charity. This opportunity is only available for IRA s. It can t be used with a 403(b), 401(k), or other retirement plans. Please be sure to check with your accountant about the IRA Charitable Rollover. If you would like more information, please contact Margie Helmuth in the Church Office at 574.773.7773 or MargieHelmuth@nmc.church.

4. Mighty God December 9, 2018 Isaiah 9, 30:15, 59:1-3 And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, MIGHTY GOD, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. In our weakness, pain, and trials, we do not serve a God who is unable to save us; we serve a Mighty God. Our Mighty God is capable of all things. His power knows no limit. Jesus was mighty, is mighty, and will always be mighty and capable to handle anything life throws at us. A Little Background on Isaiah: Roughly years before Christ. Isaiah is called by God to be a. Isaiah 6 Prophets are God's that have the chance to see into the spiritual realm and offer an alternative to the false appearances of this world. Their visions showed a diferent, Godcentered way of seeing and living. He is mighty to handle your salvation. Isaiah 59:1-3 No one is. cannot save you. Only a can save you. He is mighty to handle your life. Isaiah 30:15 Repent. Call on His name. Tim Veenstra, Associate Pastor, Nappanee Missionary Church, Nappanee, IN
