PARISH NEWS: 25TH ANNIVERSARY NEWS Our Church was, for many years, a Mission of St. Denis Parish. In 1992, John Cardinal O Connor split the Parish of St. Denis and created the new Parish of St. Columba. We will celebrate our 25th Anniversary in 2017. Here are some of our plans: 25th Anniversary Dinner Dance Committee - We are planning a 25th Anniversary Dance to be held at Cristo s on Friday, October 27, 2017. Barbara Falcone is the Chair of this committee. We are also planning for a Dinner Dance Anniversary Journal. This group is also working on Refreshments following the Anniversary Mass celebrated by Cardinal Dolan. Church Restoration Committee - Eric Winogradoff is the Chair of this committee. We are studying our church and preparing recommendations for repair and renewal. These recommendations will soon be presented to the parish. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, January 25 at 7:00pm in the church. Photo Journal - We have contracted with Lifetouch to help us prepare a Parish 25th Anniversary Photo Journal. Each family/individual will be invited to have their picture taken in May & June 2017. Each family/ individual that participates will receive a free 8x10 photo and a copy of our journal. We will photograph all of our parish organizations and committees. We will also provide opportunities to purchase memorial pages or advertising pages. We need to form a Photo Journal Committee. Members of the committee will : Act as host for the family photo sessions. Take parish pictures and lay them out. Work on advertising and memorials. Anniversary Mass - His Eminence Timothy Cardinal Dolan will celebrate our Anniversary Mass on Saturday, March 4, 2017 at 5:30pm. Personal invitations have been sent to every priest who has served at St. Columba since 1992 and general invitations have been sent to the priests of the Deanery. Bishop Dominick and our Dean, Msgr. Sullivan, plan to attend. Refreshment will be served in the gym after Mass. All are welcome! Join us in the New Year for the second half of Symbolon and explore how to fully live your Catholic faith. During each monthly session, we'll show a half hour DVD followed by a discussion. For the month of February we will discuss the Sacraments. The sacraments aren't simply the rituals we go through because we happen to be Catholic. They are profound moments of encounter with Jesus Christ, who imparts his life and grace to us and draws us deeper into his love through the seven sacraments. All are welcome. We meet on the following Fridays at 7pm in Rm 11. February 3 : The Sacraments March 3: The Eucharist April 7: Walk Through the Mass May 5: Penance and Anointing of the Sick June 2: Matrimony & Holy Orders March for Life Mass St. Columba will offer Mass on Friday, January 27 at 4:30am for those attending the March for Life in Washington DC. It is also open to all to come pray that the March will open hearts and souls to the Gospel of Life. If you cannot attend the March, we invite you to visit our Adoration Chapel anytime throughout the day to pray in solidarity with those who are marching. ST. BLASÉ BLESSING OF THROATS For centuries, St. Blasé has been invoked as intercessor for anyone suffering ailments of the throat. We are happy to offer the Intercessory Prayer of St. Blasé on Friday, February 3 at the end of the 7am Mass, at the end of the First Friday 10am Mass, and during a brief Service in the evening at 7:00pm. 25TH ANNIVERSARY LOGO Our parish would like to create a 25th Anniversary Logo. Would you like to help create one? Submit your entry to the church office by Wednesday, February 1. ( Send to rectory@stcolumbaonline.org ) The Parish Council will choose one on Monday, February 6. New Hand Railing A New simple hand rail has been placed near the Blessed Mother. It accomplishes two goals: 1) It provides a safe way for ministers of the Mass who are physically challenged to come up the steps into the sanctuary. 2) It provides protection for the drop off near the Blessed Mother. It is a safety hazard. Two clergy have fallen off it. One broke his leg. We would have liked for the rail to be even with the bottom of the Blessed Mother Shrine but that would not pass building code inspection. The rail is temporary. We plan in the future to reconfigure this area to include a permanent Baptismal Font. This is being discussed by our Church Restoration Committee. CALLING ALL 8 th to 12 th GRADERS! Beginning in January, the God Squad teen group at St. Columba is inviting 8 th graders to join us! We meet at 6:30pm on Saturdays after the 5:30pm mass.
