View this email in your browser Artesian Well Newsletter February 22, 2018 From the Pastor's Pen We had a great start to the Lenten season with two Ash Wednesday services. Since Ash Wednesday fell on Valentine s Day, the focus of the message was ashes and love. I ve been encouraging everyone to read and re-read Philippians 2:1-11 during the season of Lent. What we see in this passage is the mind and heart of Christ. We get a picture of love kneeling, giving and sacrificing for others. Ash Wednesday and Valentine s Day really do go together. In order to truly love, we must die to self. Bible School Leader Needed. Most of our ministry teams have been meeting to plan activities for 2018. Events like Round Up, Live Nativity and youth mission trip are set and planning has begun. Children, youth and adult camps at Sacramento are also on the calendar, and will be announced April (Camp Sunday, April 8). One area where we have a need is Bible School. We are in need of someone who is willing to lead and organize a summer Bible School for our children. Last year, we had the Bible Quest event when Wesley Putnam was here. We also supported and will again support the Mega Sports Camp (May 29 - June 1). If you are interested in helping with or leading a Bible School program, please let me know. This is a great opportunity to touch the lives of our children.

Opportunities for study Throughout the season of Lent, we are going to focus on grace. In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul mentions the riches of God s grace. Do you understand why grace is so amazing? Have you experienced the riches of God s grace in your life? Join us in worship as we explore the riches of God s grace. Each Sunday morning there are four adult classes that meet for fellowship and study. I m currently leading study through the book of Exodus. Other classes and teachers are: FDL teacher: Ronnie Null Christian Living teachers: John Ross & Netta Null and Brian and Jennifer Taylor Quester teacher: Jeff Bowman On Sunday evening, I m leading a video study on the book of Ruth. Lent is a great time to focus on spiritual growth. I would encourage you to take part in one of these opportunities for learning. In His Hands, Monty Koinonia Student Ministries Work Projects We had a great time doing work this past February 18th! We were able to help a church member who recently had surgery and a community member with ties to our church family needing work in their yard! We had 15 people working and helping, and I think this ministry has unquestionably been a blessing to our church family and community! Our next service day will be March 25th or Palm Sunday! Please contact me or the church office if you have absolutely any kind of need! If you need any spring cleaning done in your yard or your house, we'll be happy to help!

Mission Trip and Camp It seems crazy, but Mission Trip and Camp are getting closer! The Feb. 1st deadline has come and gone, and plane tickets have been bought for our mission trip to Charleston, SC June 11-15! It looks like 10 of us will be heading that way! Now that the first deposit is paid and tickets are bought, there are forms for the actual FUGE camp outside the offices! I will provide more information as we get closer! Camp for our 6-8th graders will be at Sacramento once again!! We are rebranding from RITMO (which no one really understood) to SYC (Sacramento Youth Camp)! There is a new design team in charge of this camp (with yours truly included) and we are looking at an awesome year of camp with some new exciting features! The cost of camp this year will be $150. We will have forms for you to fill out around March that will be due in May! Pinewood Derby! February 24, 2018 Cub Scout Pack 270's Pinewood Derby will be held in the Fellowship Hall with Registration taking place between 8:30-9:00 a.m. with the race starting at 9:00! We will have Cubs run first, then the siblings second, and the parent's race is last. Come support the Scouts! Jeremy Kern Adult Springtime Retreat April 26-29, 2018 PEACE, LOVE And Rock'n Prayer

This retreat is designed for the young-at-heart...adults of all ages welcome! Registration begins March 1st Registration forms available in the church office or you can register online at www.sacramentocamp.org McMurry Serves Workday! A big "Thank you" to the McMurry serves work group for painting and cleaning the Church Parlor, caulking the Sanctuary windows, and straightening up the Youth Room! Everyone's help was greatly appreciated! A huge thank you to Cherie Widmayer for organizing, implementing, and buying supplies for the work project!

Thank You's So many people are to be thanked for making the college boxes a reality! Thank you to everyone who brought goodies and who contributed financial support. A big thank you goes out to Jim & Sandy Schuetz for their donation; to Mike Hanagan for shopping; and to Terri Menefee, Joe & Charlotte Schiel, Kacy

Thalman, and Jerry Terpening for packing boxes. Kay Younggren personally hand-delivered the boxes to the McM group, also. It is such a group effort and everything is SO appreciated! Thank you church! Nancy Terpening TO: FUMC Thank you so much for the box of treats and games. It was kind of you to think of me as I finish this semester out. The box was a nice pick-me-up after a long week. Much thanks, Sharon Leigh Ann DeMerritt Dear First UMC, As we begin this new school year, we are taking time to reflect on the incredible investment you made in our students. Thank you for your faithful commitment and hard work to give these students a bright future. We can't wait to see the impact you will make this year! Jessica, for your El Sembrador Family To the Youth, Brian, and Zoe, My cup of gratitude runneth over!!! Thank you for all you did to make my yard look "spiffy"! I can't thank all of you enough for all you did. I have been truly blessed. Lovingly, Nancy Worley
