Several years ag, in an effrt t bring ur parish cmmunity tgether fr fellwship and infrmal learning pprtunities, we began mnthly suppers n the first Friday f the mnth, called Gd Cmpany. Parishiners wh are able t prvide a shared pt-luck style supper, which has evlved int culinary themes, and we d nt charge peple t attend, thugh there is a basket available fr dnatins. Our Rectr has prvided brief infrmal prgrams which have ranged frm a Gdly Play lessn, cnversatin questins fr each table, watching a shrt vide with a discussin fllwing, Dwelling in the Wrd, and thers. These evenings are very psitively received, and give us the pprtunity t gather and learn intergeneratinally. We usually have abut 20-25 peple in attendance, and have als included sisters frm the Cmmunity St. Jhn Baptist and Grace Lutheran Church. In the future, ur Envisining Team plans t invite ther grups r rganizatins frm the Mendham cmmunity t jin us as well. Fr the past several years, we have enjyed a cllabrative partnership with Grace Lutheran Church in Mendham, with ur relatinship still evlving. We have shared services during Hly Week and als n lw Sundays (Memrial/Labr Day Sundays). During the summers, St. Mark s hsts three Evensng and Ice Cream with the Pastr f Grace Lutheran participating and members f their cngregatin jining us. We have had children frm St. Mark s play in Grace s bell chir, and ther music ministry cllabratins. In the summer f 2017 we experimented with having alternate services at each church, and in the fall received feedback frm sme members f St. Mark s that it was t much and several viced discmfrt with having St. Mark s drs clsed when we wrshipped at Grace. Many frm St. Mark s enjy the cllabrative relatinship, and thers are nt as enthusiastic. Yet, we d see this cllabratin as imprtant and hpe t cntinue explring hw it can psitively impact ur church cmmunity. 2. Describe yur cngregatin s liturgical style & practice. If yur cmmunity prvides mre than ne type f wrship service, please describe all: The life and ministry f St. Mark s springs frm the wrship f Gd as knwn t us in Jesus Christ. As we cme tgether in the reverent beauty f the liturgy, we find inspiratin, cmmunity, and strength t bear witness t the Gspel in daily life and t serve ur neighbrs wherever we can. In the Anglican traditin, we seek t preserve the best f Cathlic and Refrmed wrship as fund in The Bk f Cmmn Prayer. The histry f the parish has included an emphasis n Angl-Cathlic, highchurch, practice: ceremny, vestments, incense, etc. Mre recently, ur wrship has mved tward what is knwn as brad church, a way f wrship that accmmdates thse high-church elements while tending tward a balance f Wrd and Sacrament, the simplicity f prayer, cngregatinal hymns, and an emphasis n preaching. Members f the cngregatin serve in leading ur wrship each Sunday. Parishiners f all ages take part in the liturgy as aclytes, Eucharistic ministers, lectrs, greeters, and ushers. We have a small chir and in the fall welcmed a new rganist, Rbert Trkan, wh is wnderfully revitalizing the rle f music in ur celebratin f the Hly Eucharist. Mr. Trkan is a spirited and charismatic musician, and in his shrt time with us has breathed new life int music at St. Mark s, with his highly-skilled mastery f rgan perfrmance as well as inspiring the small chir t make big music frm small numbers. In additin t traditinal hymn singing as an imprtant part f ur wrship, the chir prepares and perfrms anthems each week, many mre cntemprary and lively. Thrugh the genersity f an in-kind gift by Mrs. Ingrid Williams, the cngregatin dedicated a new-t-us rgan in 2013. We als have a grand pian in the sanctuary as well as tw pians in the classrms. Our yuth wh play instruments ften accmpany the chir. Currently we ffer Hly Eucharist each Sunday at 10am (Rite II), and Mrning Prayer n Thursdays during the prgram year. Fllwing the calendar f the church year, we keep nt nly the hly days at Advent/Christmas and Hly Week/Eastertide, but als such ccasins as St. Mark s Day, All Saints Day and the annual Blessing f the Animals. The Statins f the Crss are in the Church, and a labyrinth is nearby, at the Cnvent f St. Jhn Baptist, als n Main Street in Mendham. 10

St. Mark s Altar Guild prvides fr ur wrship, preparing the altar fr each service and wrking with the Rectr in supprt f ur liturgical life. The Church itself, a place f serenity and beauty, with wnderful acustics, is a great asset as we gather fr the mst imprtant thing we d, t wrship the Lrd in the beauty f hliness. 3. Hw d yu practice incrprating thers in yur ministries? St. Mark s engages in a very active welcming prcess. Each Sunday, thse serving arrive early and welcme parishiners. Our cffee hur after church is well knwn fr its delicius refreshments and its friendly cnversatins. St. Mark s publicizes ministry penings and encurages bth children and adults t take a rle in the weekly services. St. Mark s als hlds scial events and mnthly Gd Cmpany supper gatherings where fellwship and getting t knw each ther helps in identifying peple s interests and talents fr getting mre invlved. 4. Describe yur wrshipping cmmunity s invlvement in either the wider Church, the Dicese, r lcally. Currently we are participating in the dicesan Jining Gd in Shaping Our Future initiative, with a Team wrking n interviewing ur parishiners internally, and subsequently will meet with/listen t cmmunity leaders. Many members f St. Mark s are Assciates f the Cmmunity f St. Jhn Baptist, participating in ministries and prgrams f the cnvent. Sr. Barbara Jean Packer frm CSJB is leading ur Sunday services until a Priest-in-Charge is in place. Several sisters regularly jin us fr ur Gd Cmpany suppers and summer Evensngs. As utlined in Questin #1 abve, we have a cllabrative relatinship with Grace Lutheran Church. 5. Hw d yu engage in pastral care fr thse beynd yur wrshipping cmmunity? Several f ur parishiners participate in serving mnthly at the Cmmunity Sup Kitchen in Mrristwn. We currently cllect fr the Interfaith Fd Pantry, and have ccasinal cllectins fr Episcpal Relief and Develpment. As part f ur cllabrative wrk with Cmmunity St. Jhn Baptist, we make a cntributin each year t the Huse f the Gd Shepherd. 6. Describe yur cngregatin s stewardship prgram and hw it shapes the life f yur cmmunity? Over the past few years we have experimented with different elements within ur stewardship campaign, frm gathering peple in small grups, intentinally inviting thse wh pledge t step up int an increased giving categry, making thank yu calls t thse wh pledge. This is the secnd year that we have had an intentinal mid-year appeal, inviting thse wh can t cntribute n tp f their annual pledge r t include newcmers t the church t give. In April, tw f ur cngregants attended the dicesan Stewardship wrkshp, and we cntinue t explre ways we can encurage gratitude thrugh giving. 7. Hw are yu preparing yurselves fr the Church f the future? Earlier this year we began participating int the dicesan Jining Gd in Shaping Our Future initiative, which is a first step in ur realizatin that church ging frward is very different than the church f the past. The wrk f this grup is being dne by a team that is cmprised f Vestry members and cngregants. In the recent past, much f the frward-thinking wrk has been dne by the Vestry, but we are nw trying t cnvey an atmsphere that it is ging t take everyne s invlvement t keep St. Mark s at its best. In additin, we have been enjying a cllabrative partnership with Grace Lutheran Church, and thugh many f ur parishiners supprt this, sme have viced that they dn t see hw it benefits us. Thugh I think, with the wrk f ur mst recent Rectr, ur cngregatin is mre pen t 11

partnership and cllabratin than a few years ag, there is still nt a cmplete cnsensus here. Sme f ur parishiners find spirituality in St. Mark s wn traditins and practices. 8. D yu have a ministry t children, yuth, and/r yung adults? If s please describe what yu d. We have abut a dzen schl-aged children and a handful f teens. We ffer a ne-rm schlhuse apprach t Sunday Schl, and at a parent meeting we had earlier this year, we said that we wanted t identify experiential pprtunities fr the yuth, such as trips (CSJB Labyrinth, utdr Statins f the Crss, Sigh and Sund Theatre, etc.). We als try t fcus n intergeneratinal pprtunities, as ur Gd Cmpany suppers are pprtunities fr all ur peple, n matter the age. Children are welcmed and appreciated, with kids als participating in ur music ministry by playing an instrument. On Christmas Eve, ur children and yuth take the lead in all the lay rlls, and als share their musical talents as well. Our Rectr, and previusly Sr. Barbara Jean, has led cnfirmatin class fr ur teens. 9. As a wrshipping cmmunity, hw d yu care fr yur spiritual, emtinal, and physical well-being? St. Mark s is a cmmunity f devted and caring peple wh wrship tgether, help each ther in time f need and enjy getting tgether fr fun and fellwship. Our traditinal liturgy and music ffer many pprtunities fr fulfilling persnal cntributins including aclytes, chir member, lectrs, intercessrs, altar guild, Eucharistic ministers and ushers. Our spiritual frmatin prgrams include ur church schl and Sunday mrning adult class. While we value wrship as a fcal pint f ur lives tgether, fellwship is very imprtant at St. Mark s. Our scial/cffee hur after the 10 am service each Sunday is an pprtunity t catch up with friends and t welcme and integrate new members int ur parish life. We hst scial gatherings thrughut the year t allw ur parishiners t bnd and enjy each ther s cmpany. Examples f these are regular Gd Cmpany intergeneratinal dinners, dinner grups, parish supper fr adults, Christmas-time Dinner, and Shrve Tuesday Pancake Supper. As a church family, St. Mark s exercises Christian hspitality t families f recently deceased, parents f newbrns and ill members f ur cmmunity. We are currently establishing a Sunshine Cmmittee t make sure all needs are knwn. We als ffer child care during Sunday services. 10. What is yur cngregatin s experience with cnflict? Hw was it addressed? Even in a small church, we recgnize that nt everyne is ging t agree n the same things. Our Vestry currently wants t be as transparent as pssible with the administratin and running f the church. All are invited t attend Vestry meetings, thugh few utside the Vestry cme. In the past year, we have held Twn Hall-style Family Meetings t listen t and discuss in the pen what peple are thinking mst recently the tpics f ur meetings have been n the resignatin f ur Rectr and n ur relatinship with Grace Lutheran Church. Abut a decade ag, the church was divided ver the then Rectr, wh had significant health issues, an arrest which was publicized in lcal media, and was at dds with the parish lay leadership. After much deliberatin and cnversatins with the Bishp s ffice, the Rectr was relieved f his duties in June 2011 and went n disability. This, t the ne writing this, is the mst extreme example f cnflict in any church situatin, and was very difficult fr everyne in the church at the time.
