Blessing by Chaplain Wayne Cutchins. Meal provided and donated by Compatriot Mike Evans. Dedication given by Compatriot Bruce Rideout to honor the memory of his ancestor, Benjamin Joseph Rideout, Company D 3rd Virginia Infantry The Charge was read by Compatriot Joseph Jernigan The 5 Guest attending this evening were : Compatriot s Mike Hendricks, Roy Mattox, Bob Eason, Rod Phelps, Anthony Dimick. Speaker: The guest speakers for the evening were introduced by Past 1st Lt Cmdr Amp Cobb. Compatriots Roy Mattox and Mike Hendricks spoke on the 3rd Virginia Infantry ;specifically, their uniforms, equipment they used, member companies, and actions during the War between the States. Afterwards, the business meeting began and a motion was made by Compatriot Bruce Rideout to accept the Dec/ Jan meeting minutes and seconded by Compatriot Joe Jernigan. It passed unanimously. The Camp s checking account balance was reported in at $4,767.25 by Treasure Phillip Wood. On a motion made by Compatriot Craig Williams, and seconded by Compatriot Bruce Rideout, the Treasurer s Report was accepted unanimously. Treasurer Wood then gave a summary report to the Camp on his recent Florida and South Carolina trip in which he attended the Stephen Dill Lee Institute AND took a private Tour of the H.L. Hunley Submarine OLD BUSINESS : Need members to pack sausage on the morning of February 23rd at 10am at the tavern. Also need members to begin distributing auction flyers/posters in community and businesses and to start collections of items for the March 23rd auction Announcements: Reminder April 12, 13, and 14th is the date for the Annual Virginia Division SCV Convention to be held in Lexington, Virginia. Also, The Sam Davis Youth Camp is now accepting applications for any Youth of members of the SCV to attend summer Camp this June. Confederate Memorial Day will be celebrated on April 27th in Courtland, Virginia at the Confederate Monument. Thunder on the River 2013 will be Oct 5th. Maj. Gillette Memorial Service Nov 1st. New Business: Compatriot Gordon Drewry was sworn in a new member of the Urquhart-Gillette Camp #1471. Also, Compatriot Bob Eason has applied for SCV membership. Which has been accepted unanimously by the Camp. We welcome both in to the Sons of Confederate Veterans. An effort is still being made on behalf of the Camp to officially form a Color Guard. If interested, please contact Compatriot Volpe Boykin. November 1st marks 150 Years of Major Gillette s death. A memorial service is planned. His grave marker is currently under restoration. Chaplain Wayne Cutchins gave the Benediction. Compatriot Ed Williams WON the prize given! Dixie was sung by all! Next SCV Meeting will be at Mahone s Tavern on Thursday March 21st! Social at 6PM Dinner at 6:30PM. We have another great speaker and program lined up! Our deepest sympathy to members Bruce Rideout whose mother passed away; and to Earl Johnson, who recently lost his brother, Ray Johnson.
