Pastor s Page? As we continue our celebration of Women s History Month, today I ask that we consider the many special ladies God presents to us in the scriptures, especially the one John spoke about in his epistle, II John 1-13. I also ask that we consider the many special ladies we have known in our lifetimes. God bless them all, whether they be living or deceased. God bless us as we pay tribute to them. This Day In Church History... March 17, 1789. This was the day Ms. Charlotte Elliot was born in England. If you look at the Hymn Of Invitation for today, you will note that the hymn, Just As I Am. was written by her. She was the victim of a debilitating illness, while in her thirties. She went through a bout of severe depression. In time she felt that she needed to get closer to the Lord, but didn t know how. She finally was able to talk to a Christian doctor who told to go to Jesus just as you are. His words affected her deeply, and became her inspiration for seeking the Lord. Some time later, she wrote this hymn. It has been a blessing to thousands of people around the world. The famous evangelist, Dr. Billy Graham said this was the song he heard the night he was saved. As you read this, I ask, Are you saved today? If not, come to Jesus just now. Did You Know...? Solomon s tribute to the wife and mother in the book of Proverbs, chapter 33 indicates she was a person of great influence. She was a special Lady. I wonder if he was thinking of somebody in particular, or was this his tribute to all women. On The Lighter Side of Church The pastor s wife wanted to surprise her husband with a computer for his birthday. When the salesman suggested she buy him a laptop, she broke out laughing. When the salesman asked why she was laughing, she said, sir, my husband hasn t had a lap for twenty years. Do you know a joke you can submit? Please give a copy to Pastor Davis.
