GRANDVIEW UNITED METHODIST CHURCH THE MESSENGER October 2016 Greetings Grandview UMC Family & Friends Pastor Judy s Musings... October welcomes important events in the life of our congregation. I encourage you to support them with your prayers and participation. If you are not able to attend in person, encourage others to be present. If you have questions or want to know more about how to be involved, please contact me (Pastor Judy 816-509- 0536 or judycs1991@gmail.com), Church Council Chair Della Turner (816-807-8992), or Lay Leader Brough Phipps (816-824-7727). Congregational Conversation & Holy Communion Sunday, October 2 at 9:00am-11:00am in the sanctuary You are invited and encouraged to participate in this important event when we will begin an open, intentional, courageous conversation about our future. We will begin with singing and prayer. We will share information, ask questions, and listen to one another as we consider the future of our congregation. We will be sent forward as we share the sacrament of communion together. Please Note: Our typical Sunday schedule is different for this one Sunday. Our Council decided that Sunday morning is the best time to include the most people in the conversation. Finances will not be a focal point of our discussion, though we will share a brief, positive financial report. We will not make any decisions. We will listen to God and to one another as we consider how God is calling us forward. Such an important task warrants this schedule change for one Sunday. Please make it your priority to attend. October Birthdays 3 Dawn Abarr 5 Jesse Callen 11 Layne Oberto 15 Neva McDougal 17 Megan Kelly 20 Martin Slimmer 23 Vicki Graham 24 Sheila Flynn 27 LaVaun Fletcher 28 Jim Park Why do you go to church? To recharge my spiritual batteries. To connect with people who encourage me. To be reminded that God is bigger and stronger than any of the troubles of this world. To see friends who are like family. To be reminded of how we are connected to the larger human family. To learn more about the Bible. To get a fresh start for a new week. To feel a spiritual connection through prayer. The week just doesn t seem to go right without it. Sunday morning worship at 10:00am is the primary way we connect with God and with one another as people of faith. Through worship we are encouraged and spiritually equipped to care, grow, and share the love of Jesus Christ every day with everyone we meet. Renew your commitment to be present in worship and invite family, friends and neighbors to join you.
