It s more than a fish story! Our gospel-lesson is another wonderful insight into the reason why God continues to love us through Jesus. It s because we are lovable, important to Him, and He desires followers who not complete nor important but willing to be led and loved. Many a fish tale begins with the fisherman detailing the one that got away perhaps giving insight into the size of the fish, the struggle of bringing it to shore, or how it slipped off the hook or bit the line in two and escaped. Today s scripture is a story, actually two stories, of a great haul of fish caught by Simon-Peter and his companions, and then Jesus catch of hooking Peter and the others with him. St. Luke gives us wonderful insight into what these fishermen were going through. a wasted night with no fish to show for their efforts...a fishing failure. The story then develops into a great haul of fish filling up their nets. What was really being caught was the attention of these soon-to-be disciples by this miracle worker, Jesus. A new vision, a different thrust, a call or vocation to get involved with Jesus mission is issued and responded to. A curious response was given by Simon-Peter... depart from me Lord for I am a sinful man. He doesn t say anything about the great catch of fish nor how impressed he was as a result of what just happened. No, he offers an honest and humble confession of his unworthiness. He is basically saying to Jesus... throw me back into the lake, I m hardly worth anything and there are bigger and better fish to catch and keep. Jesus will not hear this plea because He knows that one s talents and merits are not deal-breakers, but responding to Jesus call, His initiative to us, is what s important. Vocation, or a call, is a matter of what the Lord has in store for us and whether we accept or reject the invitation. Jesus intends to use every one of us in proclaiming the Kingdom of God. Whatever Jesus intends to do in this world, He chooses to do it with sinful, incomplete, sometimes inadequate people like ourselves. Our takeaway from this scripture is not about the fish that got away, but about the many who have been caught, saved, and loved by the Lord... it s by saying yes to following Him that we become good fishers of woman and men. It looks like a good day...let s go fishing, AGNUS DAY, LUKE 5:1-11

Anointing of the sick is a sacrament of the church and is offered to Catholics who are dangerously ill due to sickness, injury or old age. The sacrament is for serious mental or emotional illness as well. while we should not be excessively concerned about the degree of seriousness of the condition, the casual participation in the sacrament must be avoided in good conscience. Our Lady of Lourdes February 11 February 11, 1858, a young lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous. This began a series of visions. During the apparition on March 25, the lady identified herself with the words: I am the Immaculate Conception. Bernadette was a sickly child of poor parents. Their practice of the Catholic faith was scarcely more than lukewarm. Bernadette could pray the Our Father, the Hail Mary and the Creed. She also knew the prayer of the Miraculous Medal: O Mary conceived without sin. During interrogations Bernadette gave an account of what she saw. It was something white in the shape of a girl. She used the word aquero, a dialect term meaning this thing. It was a pretty young girl with a rosary over her arm. Her white robe was encircled by a blue girdle. She wore a white veil. There was a yellow rose on each foot. A rosary was in her hand. Bernadette was also impressed by the fact that the lady did not use the informal form of address (tu), but the polite form (vous). The humble virgin appeared to a humble girl and treated her with dignity. Through that humble girl, Mary revitalized and continues to revitalize the faith of millions of people. People began to flock to Lourdes from other parts of France and from all over the world. In 1862 Church authorities confirmed the authenticity of the apparitions and authorized the cult of Our Lady of Lourdes for the diocese. The Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes became worldwide in 1907. There still may be people who doubt the apparitions of Lourdes. Perhaps the best that can be said to them are the words that introduce the film The Song of Bernadette: For those who believe in God, no explanation is necessary. For those who do not believe, no explanation is possible.

Stewardship Corner Lesson 137 Stewardship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church Did Jesus Have to Die for Us? Christ has appeared to take away sin by His sacrifice. (Hebrews 9:26) We know Jesus suffered death on the cross to save us all. But did He have to suffer such a horrendous death? Let s look to St Thomas Aquinas, whose feast we recently celebrated, for an answer. Aquinas, a Doctor of the Church, clarified this mystery explaining that Jesus died as an example to us because greater love than this no man has, than to lay down his life for his friends (John 15:13). When we enter Holy Trinity Church, we see, prominently displayed, a crucifix above the altar, serving as a reminder of this fact of our faith; a reminder of how Jesus demonstrated His love for us. When we bow or genuflect at the cross, let s ask Jesus for the grace to serve others; to be good stewards of one another, sharing our God given gifts of time, talent and treasure. Recently we had the opportunity to hear Melody at 5PM and Ope and his mom at 9AM and 11AM es offer testimonies on how their scholarships have afforded them the opportunity to attend Catholic Schools. These students are our future. This weekend, we have an opportunity to assist Catholic Education by supporting Augustine Educational Foundation, let s be generous.
