Emanuel Lutheran Church March 2019 Enlightener 125th Anniversary ~ Sunday, August 25, 2019 1960-1969~ Even though Emanuel was served by vice pastors for the first six and a half years of this decade, worship services were held every Sunday. The children of the congregation enjoyed an active Sunday School program throughout the sixties. Each year a Christmas program of songs and recitations was presented to the congregation. Members of the Luther League taught alongside the dedicated adult leaders. Vacation Bible School was held each summer either at the church or the Skandia School. Emanuel s confirmation program went into transition in 1966 after the arrival of Pastor Thomas Lindblad, with a longer program beginning at a younger age; 6th, 7th & 8th graders attended the confirmation program. Sisters and Brothers in Christ, Grace and peace to you. We have come to the end of another season in the church year, as well as the end of winter, yes I said it, the end of winter. Spring is just around the corner even though we may not see it just yet. The darkness is giving way to the light and soon, well perhaps not so soon, the snow will be all gone. During this season of Epiphany we have had the Glory of God revealed to us through Jesus the Christ, and have been tasked with a very difficult thing, called into a radically new life, counter to the culture that surrounds us. We have had glimpses of what God is up in our lives, calling us into lives of service to those who are in need, sharing the radical love that has been poured out upon us. As we enter this new season, this time called Lent, we are asked once again to do a difficult thing. We are called to a time of reflection of self-examination searching to define what it is that we hold closest tour hearts. It is also a time when we share the church with all who surround us. We look to our treasure and show that treasure in word and deed to a world that is so hungry for a break for the calamities that seem to be everywhere. May we continue on our journey with open hearts and open minds looking for whatever it is that God is up to in our lives. Peace, Michael The 125th Anniversary event of Pastor Chad leading worship on March 24 had to be cancelled. We were looking forward to his visit, but hope to see him in August for our 125th Anniversary program and dinner.

When the spring weather finally arrives and the melting snow makes it possible, the new roof project for the sanctuary will begin! Meanwhile, a monthly loan payment of $466 is made to Mission Investments. Please remember in order to meet this payment we need monthly donations above your usual contribution to Emanuel, please designate them as new roof. We encourage all congregation members to help with the finances of this project and with your commitment help to keep our church building in great shape for many years to come! Thrivent Choice Dollars ~If you are a member of Thrivent and you have Thrivent Choice Dollars to be donated, they must be directed or assigned by March 31, 2019. Thank You for Supporting our New Roof! A GoFundMe campaign has also been set up online for our new roof! Please share it with your friends and family via face book, twitter and email. You can do a search on the website www.gofundme.com with the words Skandia, MI or you can use the following link: gofundme.com/h7rdwp-new-roof-for-church As of March 1 we have raised $2125 thru GoFundMe!

Emanuel s food donation barrel known as the Country Cupboard is located near the entry to the fellowship hall. We gladly accept non perishable food items, paper products, cleaning supplies and health/beauty aids. Donations will be brought to our local St. Vincent s in Gwinn or the Food Pantry at Victory Church of Sawyer. So the next time you are grocery shopping, why not pick up something extra to donate to Emanuel s outreach effort to help feed our community. With our winter season now here, if inclement weather ever causes our Sunday Worship services to be cancelled, we will have a message on our phone reflecting the cancellation, 942-7245. Please call if roads are questionable before traveling. Quilting for Lutheran World Relief has resumed at Toni Peterson s home, 214 Maple Grove Road, on Tuesdays at 9 :30 a.m. All are invited to join; you need no quilting experience! We always are in need of used flat sheets and thread, both for sewing and tying the quilts. Remember in Prayer Our members, family, and friends who are ill, have health concerns, are grieving, or are in need. Our members who are absent from worship and unable to attend Herb Anderson and prayers for Lori Linna-Cooke and the family of Russell Kanerva. Our Thanks and Praise to God. If you have a prayer request, please let the office know by calling or by leaving a message at 942-7245.

Valentine cards for members and friends of our congregation were made and mailed by our Sunday School youth this February. We received notes and comments of thanks from many for the Valentines and for remembering them! Thank you to our youth and Sunday School teachers Leah and Karen!
