Rock Hill Lions Club Regular Meeting November 13, 2014 PRESENT: Guests: DG Rick Pressly 1stVDG David Dority and wife Lion Claudia Lions Anna and Jim McKown Lions Cindy and Gary Bottomley Lion Lenora Robertson Lion Anne Rainey Lion Ric Jenkins Lion Tim Hyatt Kathleen Palidoro The meeting was called to order at 6:00 pm. The guests were introduced and welcomed by President Lion Jim. Lions Elaine and Richard were not on time but Lion Anna read a funny poem and took care of the blessing and the pledge to our Flag. They all then proceeded to get their supper and the late arrivals got there in time to enjoy the fellowship around the table. While we finished up our meal Lion Jim discussed several items of business with our club members. He reminded us of the need to send our donation to the Lions Foundation. Lion Richard made the motion to send $1,000. It was seconded and the motion passed. We then talked about our Christmas party. It will be at Pier 51 this year starting at 7:00 pm. Our regular meeting is December 11 so Lion Cindy said that she would ask for our reservation on that day. We decided to bring a $10.00 gift to have our gift exchange. Also some food items to fill a basket for a needy person for Christmas. We also verified that Lion Lenora is going to be able to get the Federation of the Blind folks that can ride on our Lion's float in the Christmas Parade. Our theme this year is Rock Hill Lions Club supports the Federation of the Blind. Lion Gary and Lion Richard will take care of making the trailer safe for them to ride on. We did talk about the early arrival time and hope that won t be a hardship for the riders. The parade is December 5, at 6:30. We were so happy that DG Lion Rick could induct our newest member, Lion Kathleen. He called her forward and proceeded. Since the room was small, he had her to just close her eyes as he explained that darkness is what the blind can see. He then talked about what it means to be a Lion and what a wonderful organization that she is now a part of. Thank you DG Lion Rick for that special time. The program was then turned over to DG Lion Rick for his presentation. He had a CD with the song for the International President s theme, Strengthen the Pride. He played the CD so we could sing along. He wanted to be sure that we all knew the theme as he emphasized what a pride is. He then went through the song to tell us what the International President would like to accomplish this year. Beginning with more service work, more involvement by members, encouragement to build up Lions Clubs, giving and training others to lead. Of course we always need to work on membership. He encouraged us to contact schools in Rock Hill to make arrangements for checking the children attending with the cameras that the Lions in our state have purchased. He offered his help and River Hills offered their help in providing the cameras and both offered their assistance. We were happy that Lion Cindy received her Franklin Mason award. A club member is recognized for their service when a contribution is made to South Carolina Lions Foundation. Congratulations. Then DG Lion Rick had some extra certificates to award. Lion Lenora for her work with the Federation of the Blind and Rocky Bottom

Camp, Lion Tim for being the sponsor for our new Lion, Lion Kathleen for being that person and Lion Richard for being a member since September 1978 and Lion Gary has been a member since May 1977 received one too. Congratulations to all on good work done. Sustaining member pins went to Lions Gary and Cindy and Lions Anna and Jim. After reminding the members that we don t have a board meeting this month because of Thanksgiving and thanking our guests for coming, the meeting was adjourned at 8:00. Respectfully Submitted, Lion Elaine Sealy ********************* Lions Clubs - Ready to Help, Worldwide Whenever a Lions Club gets together, problems get smaller. And communities get getter.
