From the New St. Peter School Principal Susan Degnan 4 Pope Tweets @Pontifex Cambridge, MA Born in Milton, Massachusetts, I moved back to my hometown four years ago after living north of Boston for several years. My family has always been actively involved in Saint Agatha Parish and my siblings and I all attended Saint Agatha School for grades one to eight. Catholic school education was an important part of our lives, so after graduation from Saint Agatha School I attended Fontbonne Academy in Milton. After graduating from Fontbonne, I went on to Worcester State College, where I received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology, with a minor in Physical Education. Upon graduating college, I had a variety of jobs. That was until finding my vocation in Catholic education. Growing up with 2 great-aunts who taught in the Archdiocese of Boston, Sister Corona and Sister Patricius, both Sisters of Saint Joseph, I have always been comfortable in the Catholic school environment. My career has been dedicated to educating children in Catholic schools at St Joseph s in Holbrook, St Jerome s in North Weymouth, and Saint Paul s in Wellesley. During this period, I continued to broaden my education and experience, earning both a Master of Education from Curry College and a Master in School Administration from Emmanuel College. I taught courses at the college level at Stonehill College and Merrimack College. For the past 20 years, I have been the principal at Cheverus School in Malden and Trinity Catholic Academy in Brockton, as well as Head of School at Fontbonne Academy. I have a very close-knit family. We spend nearly every summer weekend together at our family s beach house, which is next door to our cousins house. I am a very proud aunt with three nieces and two nephews. Feel free to ask me about them! Registration is available on www.saintjosephprep.org. Liturgy for Individuals and Families Affected by Addiction Saturday, July 21, 7:00 p.m. St. Anthony Shrine, 100 Arch Street, Boston Join us as we gather with other women, men, and their families and friends seeking freedom from addiction. Pray with us as we seek God s grace for all those impacted by addiction and remember with love the lives lost to addiction. Celebrate with us as we rejoice in the resilience and hope of the Boston recovery community. An initiative of love and support from The Father Mychal Judge Center for Recovery at St. Anthony Shrine, The Archdiocesan Addiction Recovery Pastoral Support Services and The South Boston-Seaport Catholic Collaborative. A person s dignity does not depend on them being a citizen, a migrant, or a refugee. Saving the life of someone fleeing war and poverty is an act of humanity. June 20, 2018

Pondering the Future of Faith Saturday, July 14, 10:00-11:45 a.m. Presenter: Rev. Richard Lennan, STM professor of systematic theology. The future of faith and the prospects of the Church can seem bleak. Is there room for hope? If so, what shape would hope take? The lecture explores a hope for the future that holds together trust in God, self-criticism, and openness to the unexpected. Images of the Magdalene: A Natural History Friday, July 20, Noon - 3:00 p.m. Mary Magdalene has occupied a significant place in Christian imagination from the time of the New Testament. This celebration of the feast day of St. Mary of Magdala begins with Mass at St. Ignatius Church, followed by lunch and a lecture by Francine Cardman. The lecture explores key images of Mary Magdalene over the centuries, the contexts in which they appear, and the cultural currents to which they respond. Both events are free. For more information, directions, parking, and to register, please visit www.bc.edu/stmce. Do You Need Food or Other Necessities? If you are in need of food, help with utility bills, rent or other expenses, our St. Vincent de Paul Society ministry can help. Please call the parish office in confidence at 617-547-4235 x113. 5
