3rd Sunday in Ordinary Time January 26, 2014 PASTOR S DESK Last week's bulletin included and extensive announcement concerning the Guest Presider and Preacher Rev. John Kirwin who will be with us next weekend in order to educate us to the work of "Unbound". Formally known as the Christian Foundation of Children and Aging (CFCA), Unbound is a lay Catholic sponsorship ministry that helps children and elderly in 21 developing countries. To learn more, check out my Pastor's Desk from last week that is currently on our website or visit Unbound online at www.unbound.org. Many of you remember Father Kirwin when he filled in for me during my Sabbatical five years ago! Please extend your hospitality as I am sure you all will do. I am truly blessed to serve such a large, extended community that is still intimate and caring. I will be away on a vacation and mini-retreat from January 29th until February 12th. I will be praying for you and would appreciate your thoughts and prayers as well. God bless you. Nurses Note: More Volunteers are still needed for Two by Two, the Transfiguration Parish Faith in Action Team. Join your fellow parishioners on this team that provides non-medical support and friendship to someone caring for a family member with dementia/alzheimer. All volunteers are offered training and continued support. By belonging to this team you only give the time you can when you can because there are several of you to share the role of helping. To receive more information, contact Pat Hebert @ 692-2135. Health tips: Take some time off this holiday season. It could make you happier and improve your job performance. Are you planning to take a vacation this holiday season? Too busy at work, you say? Well, consider this: In a recent survey, 35 percent of participants felt better about their jobs and were more productive at work after taking a vacation. It makes perfect sense, really. But according to the same survey, the average American uses just 14 of their 18 allotted days. Compare these numbers to the Europeans: German, Spanish and French citizens receive 30 vacation days each year, and only the Germans leave any of it on the table. If traveling isn t an option, how about a staycation? You can still enjoy many of the same benefits relaxing walks, hot soaks in the tub, a new restaurant, or a great book without actually having to leave home. You might even consider planning a future or fantasy vacation, just for fun. The vacation planning itself can release positive emotions and benefit your brain by boosting mental flexibility. That s something your employer is sure to appreciate. http://www.clevelandclinicwellness.com
