NEWSLETTER DIVINE SCIENCE CHURH OF THE HEALING CHRIST March 2019 2025 35TH STREET N.W. WASHINGTON D.C.20007 Office: (202)333-7630 Dial-a-prayer: (202)338-1240 www.divinescience.org dschurchdc@aol.com MARCH 3 YE ARE WHOLE - Listen Not to the Call of the Material World- Mr. Wayne Gatewood These days we are bombarded with tons of TV, radio, and internet commercials and ads; all types of media directed at the human condition, telling us what we need this or that in order to be whole. And, then there are the negative criticisms and opinions of so-called friends, associates and even our parents and siblings. Believe none of this negative banter, as you are whole and complete now. Do not fall victim to the yardstick of the flesh. Forsake the foolish and live; and go in the way of understanding. Provers 9:6 MARCH 24 GRATITUDE Rev. Wayne Gatewood There are folks out here in the world that never seem to be grateful with what they have in life. They complain that they don t have a new car; they complain about their jobs, the people they work with, and the hours they must work. They complain about all kinds of seeming lack, and are always looking at their glass as half empty instead of half-full. Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God. 2 Corinthians 9:11. MARCH 10 DEMANDS OF THE SPIRIT Rev. Janet Friedline For whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be expected. To call us the child of God, we must act as a child of God. Spiritual integrity demands that we do so. It can be no other way. MARCH 31 THE PART WE PLAY Rev. Janet Friedline It has been said that God has a plan for us. It is true that we are of God, that he gave us life and sent us into expression. He also gave us talents and gifts, let us use them wisely. MARCH 17 WHAT DO YOU WANT Rev. Donna Gatewood So many of us go through life wanting this or that thing and never get it. Why do you think that is?

NO OTHER GODS Rev. Pat Beach These three words from the First Commandment are easy enough to understand. Yet there are legions of external and internal temptations that come into our lives taking attention from what is truly essential. These worldly things all appear to be "good" which is why they are so hard to resist or actually to even recognize. We are meant to enjoy and appreciate the things of this world but having them be a central focus in our lives is to deny God's rightful place. For example, it is a benefit to see that technology is useful but more important to know it as only a poor substitute for real connectivity. That realm of indivisible union where Oneness is revealed is found through communion in worship, prayer and meditation. To be consciously and continuously aware of God's Presence, Power and Wisdom is to know Life more abundant than Jesus knew. Jesus and the people of his time had only the guidance of the Ten Commandments by which to live. Jesus took to mind, heart and soul the pure practice of seeking first the kingdom of God and all things were given unto him. He understood and faithfully applied that one primary direction. He has shown us the way and taught us how to walk in it. Most Wondrous God, let everything that has breath praise your Holy Name. Amen. o o o 2

P R E S I D E N T S M E S S A G E 1. On Sunday, February 11, we celebrated our annual Valentine reception sponsored by the Board of Trustees. The Board decided that instead of honoring an individual this year, it would ask all of our congregants to celebrate Divine Science and its impact that it has had on their lives. A reception was provided by the Board and everyone's participation helped to make the afternoon memorable. 2. Though it may seem a long way off, we are still looking at possible nominees for the May elections to the Board. Our congregation has reduced in recent years and a large Board is no longer a requirement. It will also be discussed at the Annual Meeting whether or not our Board should remain as it has done recently functioning with 6 members and an Ex Officio. 3. We welcome into our church family, Ms. Judy Coleman-Kla. Judy has served as Secretary to our Alumni Association and we know that membership in our church will serve her well. 4. Mr. Wayne Gatewood, Building and Facilities liaison to the Board, has kept us abreast of certain needed church repairs. As of late it has become necessary to replace the church computers with equipment that can handle the increase in church data. The purchase of this equipment has been approved by the Board and should be in and installed with immediacy. "For we are all laborers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building" 1 Corinthians 3:9 Respectfully, Shirley Taylor Moore, President Board of Trustees We would like to extend a special welcome to our newest member, Judy Coleman-Kla. ALUMNI ASSOCIATION Divine Grace Series On February 3, 2019, the Alumni Association invited Judy Coleman-Kla to speak about Divine Grace. Judy began her presentation with a prayer, thanking the Father for his Grace. She went on to define DIVINE as relating to, and proceeding directly from God, and GRACE as God s love in action, the unmerited favor from the Father. Judy reminded us that we all receive Divine Grace, but wondered if we always recognize it when it arrives, or do we mostly attribute the arrival of Grace to self. In such instances when we recognize Grace as not being from self, but from the Father, do we then remember to give thanks to the Father? She maintained that we needed to be mindful; first, by recognizing the gift, and next by giving thanks for the blessing, telling us that even a brief acknowledgement is always welcomed. Giving thanks reconnects, and forges a stronger level of consciousness within, while building a deeper relationship with the Father. However, I consider my life worth nothing to me; my only aim is to finish the race and complete the task the Lord Jesus has given me the task of testifying to the good news of God s grace. Acts 20:24 Always remember to thank God for his Amazing Grace! Mar 3, Sunday, 12:15 pm, Alumni Association Presentation with Patricia Shields.
