Jesus as Lord THE WELCOME WELCOME Welcome each child as they arrive. Hello. I m glad you are here! Come open the Treasure Chest to find today s treasure. Child unlocks the Treasure Chest to receive a stamp or sticker of a smiley face. Let this stamp (or sticker) of a smiley face remind you that Jesus did miracles so we could believe and tell others about Him. Teacher s Note: These activity centers are designed to reinforce the lesson through hands-on learning experiences either individually or in small groups with the guidance of the teacher. Choose the Bible Activity Centers that best suit the children in your class. Set up the activity centers around the room before children arrive. Allow children to move freely among them. TALK ABOUT After Jesus died and rose again, He visited with His friends one last time. They couldn t believe His was alive, but He sat with them and He helped them believe. We know about Jesus and His miracles because the Bible tells us about them. Whose words are in the Bible? (God s words.) PLAY-DOUGH CENTER: SEE AND BELIEVE SUPPLIES Play-dough, cookie cutters, play-dough tools DO Children make a face with the play-dough. TALK ABOUT Ask children to make a face with the play-dough. Ask them to point to the eyes, nose, mouth, and ears. What do you use to see? (Your eyes.) Can you point to your eyes? With their eyes, Jesus friends saw Him walk on water. They saw Jesus calm the storm. They saw Him walk on water. They saw many of Jesus miracles. Can anyone tell me what a miracle is? (Something only God can do.) We can t see Jesus do miracles but we can read about them in the Bible. God gave us the Bible so we could hear about Jesus miracles and believe in Him. Page 3 of 11

THE WELCOME continued BLOCK AND CAR CENTER: SHARE HIS STORIES SUPPLIES Blocks, cars DO Children use the blocks to build the homes of people they can tell about Jesus. TALK ABOUT Jesus wants us to share the stories we know about Him. What is your favorite story about Jesus? (Children respond.) Who could you share that story with? (Children respond.) Can you pretend to build that person s house with the blocks? Then, you can pretend to visit them and tell them stories about Jesus. DRAMATIC PLAY CENTER: FOOD FOR JESUS SUPPLIES Dishes, cups, napkins, play food DO Children make a meal to share with Jesus. TALK ABOUT In our story today, Jesus has a meal with His friends. When He told them He was hungry, they gave him fish to eat. Do you like to eat fish? (Children respond.) If you knew Jesus was coming to see you, what would you give Him to eat? (Children respond.) Let s pretend Jesus is coming to visit our class and prepare a meal to share with Him. PREPARE FOR WORSHIP It s time for Praise Time. Let s sing a Clean Up Song as we put things away. Jesus as Savior THE WORSHIP Supplies: Praise music, optional: musical instruments Teacher Tip: To help children identify time set aside for worship, designate a special corner or area for singing, collecting offering, and watching the worship illustration. Play Praise Time: Love the Lord Your God as children move to that designated area. Say hello to each child, calling them by name. Just like I called each of you by name, we can call on Jesus name and talk to Him in prayer. Have the children bow their heads and close their eyes. Dear Jesus, we believe in You. Thank You for always hearing us when we call. Amen. Jesus did miracles to show us who He is and to help us believe. Sing: I Will Remember. As we give our offering today, let s thank God for all His wonderful acts His miracles! Let s ask God to use our offering to help give all people what they truly need to believe in Jesus as the Savior whom God promised to send. Sing: The Lord Is Faithful while collecting the offering. Jesus appears to His friends THE WORD Supplies: Teacher s Bible with bookmark at Luke 24:48, picture of the Bible story Before we begin our Bible Time, let s say our Classroom Promise with the motions. With my eyes on my teacher; Point to eyes. My mouth quiet as can be, Place index finger over mouth as quiet sign. I will listen to hear, Cup hand around ear. How God loves you and me. Hug self, point to others, and then self. Let s reach deep in our pockets and pull out our listening ears. Reach in your pocket and cup your hands behind your ears as if listening. God made us so we can hear (Point to your ears.), see (Point to your eyes.), touch (Wiggle your fingers.), smell (Point to your nose.), and taste (Point to your mouth or tongue.). Let s sing a song about how God made us. Sing to the tune of Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. Eyes, ears, nose and mouth, nose and mouth! (Point to each body part.) Eyes, ears, nose and mouth, nose, and mouth! Don t forget your fingers and toes! (Wiggle fingers. Point to toes.) Eyes, ears, nose and mouth, nose and mouth! Jesus friends heard, saw, touched, and even tasted Jesus miracles and they believed. Jesus wanted them to do one more thing. Let s find out what it was. Handle Bible as a special treasure, leaving it open to Luke 24:48. WATCH THE WORD: LUKE 24:36-48 Read the story below or retell the passage in your own words. To illustrate the story, show a picture of the Bible story from a children s Bible, the coloring page, or other source. After Jesus rose from the dead, He appeared to His followers and said, Peace be with you, but they were afraid. He said, It is Me! And they were amazed! He asked if they had something to eat. They gave Him some fish and He helped them believe. He proved that the Bible was true. He explained, That to keep God s promises was why He came. Jesus reminded them of all they had seen. He said, You are witnesses of these things. We are witnesses in that same way; Let s tell of all His wonderful acts today! A witness is someone who sees something happen and tells others. Who did Jesus say His witnesses were? (His friends.) If you believe Jesus did these miracles and you tell others about them, then you are His witnesses, too! Page 6 of 11

We can believe and tell others THE WAY Teacher Tip: Craft and games can be presented at the same time in different areas or one at a time depending on class size and teaching style. CRAFT: SENSING MIRACLES Purpose: Create a card to tell others the miracles of Jesus. Supplies: Standard-size sturdy white paper, paper outlines or stickers of these four body parts (eyes, ear, hand, mouth), glue or glue sticks, crayons Prepare: On sturdy white paper, print four 4-inch x 4-inch coloring book pictures or symbols of a miracle connected to each of the senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste), Fold a sheet of paper in half as a greeting card. On the front cover, print: You are witnesses of these things. Luke 24:48. On the inside, print: Tell of all His wonderful acts! Psalm 105:2. 1. Color each of the pictures of the four miracles. 2. Glue two miracles on each side of the inside of the card. 3. Discuss how Jesus gave us eyes to see, ears to hear, hands to touch, and a mouth to taste the proof of His miracles. 4. Glue each of the four symbols of the senses next to the corresponding miracle. Craft Discussion: Jesus lets us see, hear, touch, and even taste His miracles. Point to the picture of Jesus walking on water. With their eyes, Jesus friends saw Him walk on water. Can you point to your eyes? Point to the picture of Jesus calming the storm. With their ears, Jesus friends heard Him say, Peace be still, to the wind and waves. Point to the picture of Thomas touching Jesus hands. With his hands, Thomas touched Jesus wounds. Point to the picture of Jesus feeding the big crowd. With their mouths, the big crowd tasted the two fish and five loaves of bread. Page 7 of 11

THE WAY continued GAME: REMEMBER HIS MIRACLES Purpose: To tell others the miracles of Jesus. Supplies: None Jesus did many miracles. By hearing (Point to your ears.), seeing (Point to your eyes.), touching (Wiggle your fingers.), and even tasting (Point to your mouth or tongue.), the miracles, the friends knew Jesus was who He said He was and they believed. 1. Children stand in front of you. Point to each body part as it s mentioned. Eyes, ears, nose, mouth, and fingers. God made them all. Jesus fed the big crowd with just two fish and five loaves of bread. Touch your mouth and remember Jesus miracles. 2. Repeat the rhyme inserting the miracles and senses below. Jesus heals a blind man. Touch your eyes. Jesus healed the woman who touched His clothes. Wiggle your fingers. Jesus heals the man s ears and tongue. Touch your ears and tongue. Jesus calmed the storm. Touch your eyes. Jesus changed water into grape wine. Touch your mouth. Jesus appeared and let Thomas touch His hands and side. Wiggle your fingers. Jesus made mud to give sight to a man born blind. Touch your eyes. Jesus filled His friends nets with fish for everyone to eat. Touch your mouth. Jesus friends watched as He was lifted up to heaven. Touch your eyes. Jesus took a little girl by the hand and she was healed. Wiggle your fingers. Jesus appeared to His friends after He rose from the dead and made breakfast. Touch your mouth. GAME: MIRACLE BALLOON BOP Purpose: To remind the children to tell others about Jesus miracles. Supplies: Inflated (non-helium) colorful balloon or beach ball. Jesus wants us to remember His miracles and to tell them to people we know. Each time you bop the Miracle Balloon, let s tell each other, I believe in Jesus and His miracles. 1. Children stand in a circle. 2. Teacher holds balloon and says, I believe in Jesus and His miracles. 3. Teacher bops the balloon to a child. 4. Child bops the balloon and says, I believe in Jesus and His miracles. If the balloon falls or if the child catches the balloon, have the child bop it to another child. 5. THE WAY continued SNACK: WONDER-FULL PARTY Purpose: To review and celebrate Jesus miracles that were learned. Let s call it a Wonder-full Party, because He is the God of Wonders and His miracles are wonderful acts! Snack Suggestion: Favorite party refreshments 1. Serve the snacks and drinks. 2. Let s sing the Blessing Song. Sing to the tune of Frere Jacques or another familiar tune. God our Father, God our Father. Once again, once again, Thank You for our blessings. Thank You for our blessings. Amen. Amen. 3. Pray. Lead discussion below while children enjoy their snack. With their eyes, Jesus friends saw Him walk on water. With their ears, they heard Him say, Peace be still, to the wind and waves. With his hands, Thomas touched Jesus wounded hands. With their mouths, the big crowd tasted the two fish and five loaves of bread. Jesus friends heard, saw, touched, and even tasted Jesus miracles and they believed in Him. What did Jesus want them to do after they believed the miracles? (Tell others.) What is your favorite miracle? (Children respond.) When only 5 minutes remain, begin this segment. FINAL FIVE MINUTES BIBLE MEMORY VERSE Gather children in a circle sitting or standing and practice the words and motions. Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. If time remains, choose from the connected activities below. GOT TIME? SAY & DO: LUKE 24:36-48 Purpose: This pantomime version of the Bible Story helps children remember the story details. Supplies: None With each phrase, the teacher says the phrase and leads the children in doing the hand motions. After Jesus rose from the dead, (Raise palms.) He appeared to His followers and said, (Cup hands around mouth to whisper.) Peace be with you, but they were afraid. (Put hands on cheeks as if afraid.) He said, It is Me! And they were amazed! (Point to self.) He asked if they had something to eat. (Rub belly.) They gave Him some fish and He helped them believe. (Point to head.) He proved that the Bible was true. He explained, (Fold and open hands like a book.) That to keep God s promises was why He came. (Point to heaven.) Jesus reminded them of all they had seen. (Point to eyes.) He said, You are witnesses of these things. (Point to others.) We are witnesses in that same way. (Point to self.) Let s tell of all His wonderful acts today! (Point to mouth and then point outward.) BIBLE MEMORY VERSE ACTIVITIES Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. Joel 2:32 GAME: EVERYONE WHO CALLS Purpose: To help children learn the meaning of the Unit 4 Bible Memory Verse. Supplies: None 1. Children sit in a circle. 2. Choose one child to stand in the center of the circle. 3. Remaining children chant the Unit 4 Bible Memory Verse in rhythm: Group: Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved! Center child: Even me? Group: Yes, you! Center child: What about name of child? (Child in the center chooses a child in the circle.) Group: Name of child chosen, too! 4. GOT TIME? continued GAME: CALL ON THE LORD Purpose: To help children memorize and review the Unit 4 Bible Memory Verse. Supplies: Unit 4 Bible Memory Verse Song Everyone Who Calls, optional: musical instruments Our Bible Memory Verse tells us to call on the name of the Lord. Remember that Lord is a special name for God. We can call on Him no matter where we are or what we are doing. When our Bible Memory Verse Song is playing, let s march around the room while we sing along. When the music stops, I want you to freeze in place and together we will say our Bible Memory Verse. 1. Play Everyone Who Calls as a helper leads the children in marching around the room. 2. After a short time, pause the music. The children freeze in place. 3. Lead the children in saying the Bible Memory Verse: Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved, Joel 2:32. 4. Play as long as you like. Give the children each a turn in leading the group around the room. STORY TIME Gather the children and read a favorite story. This can be a Bible Story, a chapter from The Adventures of Delbert & Lello, or a story about a miracle of Jesus that helps us believe. PONDER, PRAY & PLAY Unit 4, Lesson 21: Appearing to the Disciples PONDER! After Jesus died and rose again, He visited with His friends one last time (Luke 24:36-48). He sat and ate with them and He helped them believe. We know about Jesus and His miracles because the Bible tells us about them. Whose words are in the Bible? (God s words.) PRAY! Pray this prayer each day this week: Lord Jesus, thank You for helping us understand that You are the One whom God sent to save us. Help me tell others about Your miracles. Amen. PLAY! What is your favorite miracle? Read it in your Bible. Tell a friend the story. You can draw a picture or act out the story with them.
