I am honored to become the Pastor of a Church with such a wonderful history 50 years in this Pastor Leslie Daniels current location, doing the work of God. And now I believe that going on this journey with you into the future that He has prepared for us will be an amazing trip. We will get to see God s hand at work among us! I believe in the Church of Jesus Christ! I have loved the Church from an early age when my parents first took me to worship with them. I remember, from early childhood, singing praises through the hymns of the Church my first funeral, elders coming to visit us in our home, taking food to people who were ill, and learning about missionaries in foreign lands. I hold fast to the passage in Ephesians 4 which speaks of God appointing leaders in the Church (Apostles, Prophets, Pastors, Teachers, Evangelists), for the equipping of the saints for the work of the ministry. Who are the Saints? That would be you! God s set-apart, holy people, bought with the precious blood of Jesus his Son. As a wise person recently said to me: It takes all of us, to fulfill the destiny that God has for us as His people, here at Dunlap UMC. I can t wait to watch it unfold. All because of His amazing grace, Pastor Leslie

July, 2018 Page 3 The Administrative Board will meet on Tuesday, July 17, at 6:00 p.m. Please remember to drop by and support the United Methodist Men while they are frying up and selling Funnel Cakes for the 4th of July. They will be near the courthouse and Cherry Street. Volunteers to help them any time from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the 4th will be highly appreciated! This is a big fundraiser and allows the UMM to do lots of great things for the church and Dunlap.

Page 4 DUNLAP UNITED METHODIST CHURCH On Saturday, June 2, this group of volunteers happily prepared supper for 60 people staying at Chattanooga s Ronald McDonald House. Left to right: Amy Layne, with Charlee in front of her and Mason to her left (they helped a lot!), Lois Harris, Margaret Lane, Bea Ward, Pam Kiper (the instigator) and Libby Dishman. So much fun!

July, 2018 Page 5 When the taped hymns for the Early Service on June 10 couldn t be located, Linda Tate saved the day by volunteering to play the piano! Thank you, Linda. You went above and beyond!

DUNLAP UNITED METHODIST CHURCH Page 6 DUMC YOUTH Libby Dishman, Anna Kate Tibbs, Cindy Widick, and Melissa Tibbs delivered 31 mission buckets to Brainerd UMC. At the time of delivery, the Scenic South had collected over 500 buckets! Thank you for supporting this great outreach by the Holston Conference. Also, thank you, Laurie Springer, for coordinating the project at Dunlap UMC!

Troop 33 did very well in the camp competitions: Noah Widick won Best Shot for shotgun, Patrick Mackey won Best Shot for rifle, Trace Barker received recognition for Chaplain s Aide, Leaders Hank Widick and Jeff Mackey were recognized also; Hank for his work and dedication on the shooting range, and Jeff for his help getting the camp ready for this week s activities. The entire troop again won the Cracked Skillet Award for best overall campsite inspections. The Dunlap United Methodist Men will be taking youngsters to a Chattanooga Lookouts Baseball game on August 24th. Stay tuned for more information. This outing is always a big hit with our young people and their parents. The UMM buys the youngsters tickets and gives each one some cash money to buy their hotdogs and treats. This is a big deal!!

June, 2018 Page 9 SPECIAL APPRECIATON FOR ROLAND DONUT LOWERY! Roland began attending Dunlap UMC in 1954, when the church was located downtown and was 12 years old. He joined a few years later and, best he can recall, he was baptized by Reverend Bill Horner, who served here from 1959 to 1963. Roland is a native of Dunlap and graduated from Sequatchie High School (the old one on Fredonia Road). In 1964, he married Beth Flerl, who is from Soddy Daisy. They met at DuPont where Roland worked for 39.5 years. They have 2 daughters: Robin and Rolanda, and one son: Jeffery; 9 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Roland has been through many changes at Dunlap UMC; from downtown to Main Street, and through 18 ministers. Through it all he remains cheerful and caring and ever ready to do what needs doing. He maintains a number of lawns in Dunlap and has since 1976. He is the reason our church lawn is always freshly mowed and lovely. Recently, he spent nearly two full days wrestling the overgrown hedge along the west side of the church back into shape. He serves as head usher more often than anyone; we all love his big smile on Sunday mornings. He enjoys the fellowship of Dunlap UMC and the only change he would love to see is for more people to worship with us. Thank you, Roland, for all you do. Vacation Bible School will be held this year from July 11 to July 13. Times are 9 a.m. to noon on the 11th and 12th and 9 a.m. to 2 pm on the 13th. If you are able to donate items such as Capri Sun drinks, small bags of chips, Debbie Cakes, applesauce, etc., please give these to Kendra when you are can. Thank you.

Page 10 DUNLAP UNITED METHODIST CHURCH The Dunlap United Methodist Women met in June on the 18th for their annual potluck dinner at the home of Pat and Jim Treadwell. A good time was had by all! The women will meet next on July 16th at the church, in the fellowship hall, at 12:30 p.m. All women in the church are always invited to attend and learn about the work of the United Methodist Women. The big deal right now? Funnel Cakes for the 4th of July. The United Methodist Men will set up at 8:00 a.m. near the courthouse and fry and sell Funnel Cakes until 2 p.m. They could use help, fellows. Any volunteers for any portion of the day will be greeted warmly! Ruth Ellen Tate, Betsy Hatfield, and Regina Wehunt went to the jail on June 28, to minister to the women serving their time there. Regina had recently enjoyed a mission trip to Honduras, and she presented a program about that trip to the women, which they greatly enjoyed. Betsy Hatfield led a Bible study on Love, and Ruth Tate led the group in singing Old Time Religion before closing the evening with a prayer. Everyone involved was blessed by the evening.
