Do not love the world or the things of the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world-the desires of the flesh and desires of the eyes and pride in possessions-is not from the Father but is from the world. And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever. 1 John 2:15-17 REFLECTION We now live in a world that possesses, according to many in high places that should know better, the new enlightenment. They teach we should abide in the worldly desires of the flesh, and desires of the eyes and pride of possessions. We must avoid their worldly quagmire of moral relativism. St. John writes, The world is passing away along with its desires. We can attest to the truth written by that great and holy Apostle, because there are those that have eyes that see the truth in the Traditional Faith and Moral teachings of the Church, and hearts that abide with love for God. The Respect Life Committee invites you to publicly witness to the truth. Participate with us in the following programs that will attest to the truth; that we profoundly love our neighbors, the so called least among us - pre-born children, terminally ill, & special needs brothers & sisters. "You covet but do not possess. You kill and envy but you cannot obtain; you fight and wage war. You do not possess because you do not ask. You ask but do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions." James 4:2-3 Saint James warns each one of us against the dangers of materialism. In fighting the materialism in our culture, I must ask myself not only, "What do I own?" But more importantly, "What owns me?" What is the one thing I possess that I could not live without? This is what owns me. AROUND & ABOUT Day of Prayer and Fasting Archbishop Kurtz invites Catholics throughout the Archdiocese to join him in a Day of Prayer and Fasting on Friday, October 5.
