He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. I am confused what happened? It seems like yesterday it was the fourth of July and now it is November. Last Sunday night we had Trick or Trunk and had over 100 children and parents to attend. Without a doubt it was one for the ages. I don t know when I have ever seen so many children having so much fun. Pastor Lay Leader Church Staff Children s Ministries Coordinators Nursery Director Rev. Jimmy Boone Tommy Henderson Brooke Miles & Sarah Andrews Nikki Bonner Yesterday was Halloween, and today all the candy is on sale. Yesterday the aisles of the stores were filled with Halloween costumes and other items, but today they are being replaced by Christmas trees. Already you can go online and see all the Black Friday early releases of advertisements. (Psst, want a 55 inch 4-K HD TV for $219??) But before we total jump into Christmas, let s take a moment to remember November, and three very important dates. Pianist Organist Secretary Custodian Newsletter Editor Greg Waldrep Jeannie Boehmler Heather Wilmot Mary Canty Sarah Andrews For the next month the most used word in the vocabulary is going to be the word Thanks. I hope you will first begin by saying Thanks to our Veterans. Nov. 11 is Veterans day. This year marks the 100 th Anniversary of the War to end all wars (World War I.) It was on Nov. 11, at 11:00 that the armistice was signed to end the war. A year later President Woodrow Wilson recognized the proclaimed that the day should be used in remembrance of all those who had served to bring peace. In 1926 it became a legal Holiday....Cont d on page 3

Continued from Page 1 In 1945, World War II veteran Raymond Weeks from Birmingham, Alabama, had the idea to expand Armistice Day to celebrate all veterans, not just those who died in World War I. Weeks led a delegation to Gen. Dwight Eisenhower, who supported the idea of National Veterans Day. On Sunday Nov. 11, we will recognize all of the Veterans in our church and take time to thank them for their service. A week later we will observe Homecoming, as Rev. Francis Turner returns to visit. During this time we give thanks for the 187 years that Mount Zion has shared Christ in this community. Rev. Turner was Pastor here for six years from 2004-2010. He is currently serving in DeFuniak Springs, Florida. We look forward to having him here. Because, that is also the Sunday before Thanksgiving, we are going to make the Homecoming Lunch into a Thanksgiving Meal. Please plan to bring your special Thanksgiving food to share after worship. Finally on Thursday, November 29 comes Thanksgiving Day itself. What a joyous day as people come together, enjoy a meal as a family, and give Thanks to God! Of course, there are some who will spend the day watching football, while others are scan the ads to find those special bargains, and while a few will even start shopping that evening. Many also will observe a family tradition of using the afternoon to start putting up Christmas decorations. Of course others, after enjoying a grand meals, will find a recliner or couch and take a nap. But, I pray you will all include taking time to honor our Lord and God, and give him thanks for your family, church, country, and most of all the gift of salvation. I always think of a song from my youth on Thanksgiving Give thanks with a grateful heart Give thanks to the Holy One Give thanks because He's given Jesus Christ, His Son And now let the weak say, "I am strong" Let the poor say, "I am rich Because of what the Lord has done for us" Proclaiming Jesus is Lord!
