Fitness Fun Has Begun!! Everyone is welcome! The classes are Mondays and Thursdays from 8:00-8:45am in the large classroom (room 105). Bring water to stay hydrated and light weights, if you have them. All levels of fitness will be accommodated. Most can be done while seated. We hope to see you! Blessing President - Carol Kemper Come and join the "Fitness Fun". It's FREE. Please park in the back lot and use the north entrance. Sunday Aug 13th at the 9 & 10:30 Worship Service. As kids, youth and many folks head back to school or college, this season finds students, caregivers, neighbors, teachers, bus drivers, janitors, administrators and parents preparing for this new opportunity to grow and learn. Anyone that would like to share in the celebration of learning and growing is invited to gather Sunday Aug 13th at the 9 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. worship service for the Blessing of the Backpacks. We are doing this to help us to prepare for new the school year. There is always something new each year and we need to remember we take the Lord with us and seek to be a part of what God is already blessing. Please bring your backpack on Sunday Aug 13th to either of the services and receive a blessing for the new year and a special gift for the year ahead.

Greetings in Christ to you the Elmwood family of God. Last month we got to start a new adventure together in this new appointment. To say the least, it has been a very positive experience for my family and me. I am reflecting on my first day that I was sitting in my office; I felt a definite blessing from the Lord to have these people I serve, the congregation and community I am appointed to and do ministry. I know I have not always got it right, but I am really trying and grateful for the mercy and grace offered in return. Nowadays, I am working to remember the names of church family using the picture book provided by SPRC. Please forgive me if I address you incorrectly or mispronounce your name. I will do my best to remember you quickly. My primary focus as a pastor is on three things: visitation, leadership, and preaching. The visitation to the members and friends is one of the sources of my sermon preparation and preaching. It also influences my leadership as a pastor. I love spending time with people and listening to stories from people because, without the time spent together, relationships can be shallow. I eagerly want to meet you all and to share my stories and yours. I am making my way around slowly and if I have not had the opportunity to meet you in person and spent a little time with you, take heart; I am on the way. Without knowing you, I cannot understand you. Without understanding you, I cannot love you deeply as with the love of Christ. Without loving the congregation, my ministry will not be effective and life-changing. If I have not love, I am nothing. (1 Cor.13:2) I want to listen to you and hear the story of God s work in your life here in these beautiful communities. I also want to know what is important to this congregation and its impact on the community. Just a reminder, you can connect with me on Facebook, or you can text or call me on my cell phone. I do not have a phone at the parsonage, so please contact me here: (309) 221-4879. I am looking forward to where God is taking us a congregation, and I am seeking God s guidance to help us to do that together. Now that Linda, Daniel and I are almost comfortably settled into the parsonage and becoming more accustomed to the people and our surroundings here, we want to say "thank you" for your generous hospitality and gracious care you have shown us. Let us keep doing good for the Lord and making disciples of Jesus Christ. PD. Christmas in August!? It seems that we shouldn't be thinking about packing Christmas Shoe boxes but.. now when school supplies are on sale, pick up some extra items for the boxes; you will be glad you did.

UPCOMING SERMON SERIES Aug 6th 2017 Message: A Fresh Start : Fitting In or Becoming Fit Text: John 5:1-17 The BIG idea: Today s message should affirm all persons and challenge them to use their gifts to benefit others and the world. Aug 13th 2017 PLEASE NOTE: Blessing of the Backpacks Message: A Fresh Start: Taking God with You Text: Psalm 145:13-21 / Hebrews 10:22-25 The BIG idea: God works in new situations to bring new results. No matter who you are whether a child starting kindergarten, or an older adult embarking onan unfamiliar journey, new adventures await. Aug 20th 2017 Message: A Fresh Start: When the Lead Breaks?!? Text: Mark 4:35-41 The BIG idea: Often, we start out with high hopes, only to have them dashed by things that get in the way. When these times come, where and to whom do we turn? Aug 27th 2017 Message: A Fresh Start: Learning How to Begin Again! Text: Lamentations 3:22-15 // Matthew 6:25-34 The BIG idea: A life of faith is based on call and response. God s grace is the call, and human acceptance is the response. But it doesn t stop there. Call and response happen repeatedly in life. Thank You from Pastor Brad and Debbie Debbie and I would like to thank everyone at The United Methodist Church of Elmwood, who made our parting celebration and service a very special event! It was filled with laughter, joy, and a few tears, but done in such a way that you could feel the love being shared among us! A big salute of appreciation should go to the Staff Parish Relations and Fellowship Committees, Closer to Free and New Day Worship Bands. We also want to thank the congregation and our community friends for their gifts and many kind words of appreciation! Debbie and I have served several congregations, but we couldn t have found a more caring, giving, and loving church and community to call home than Elmwood. We trust that you will welcome Pastor Dave and Linda with the same gracious spirit that you shared with us. Your hospitality will help them quickly call Elmwood home. Grace, Peace, and Justice to you all! Pastor Brad and Debbie

Children & Youth Ministries What a great time we had at Vacation Bible School this year!! Between Pre-K and K-6 we had over 100 kids attend this year! The kids learn all about how they can have courage, heart, wisdom, hope and power through God to do His work in the world. They raised almost $500 for the missions of Baby Fold and UnityPoint Methodist Child/Adolescent Mental Health Program. They also collected over 350 items to donate to each of the missions.
