EARLY YEARS UNIT 1 : DOMESTIC CHURCH: MYSELF God knows and loves us: we are precious to God. God has called us by name. Prayer is talking and listening to God. it is possible to pray at any time. introduction to a litany. Some Scripture from Isaiah and a Psalm. KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING (LEARNING ABOUT): Listen to and talk about religious stories and respond to what they hear with relevant comments. (Isaiah 43 1:2) Represent their own ideas, thoughts and feelings about religious stories through design and technology, art, music, dance and role play. (Isaiah 43 1:2 & Psalm 131) * Read and understand simple sentences from scripture or from their own religious stories (Isaiah 43 1:2) Share religious stories they have heard and read with others. (Isaiah 43 1:2) Sing songs; make music and dance to express religious stories Take part in songs learnt throughout the unit Listen, talk about and role play similarities and differences between themselves and others, and among families, church communities and church traditions. YEAR 1 UNIT 1 : DOMESTIC CHURCH: FAMILIES God loves and cares for everyone. We can trust God. Jesus was part of a loving family. The importance of prayer: night prayers. The psalms help us pray and think about God. God cares for us a loving parent. KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING (LEARNING ABOUT): Recognise religious stories Children will be able to recognise the stories and psalms which reveal God s love and care. They will recognise the story of Jesus growing up in a family who loved and cared for him Psalm 63: 6-9, Psalm 16: 7-9, Psalm 28: 6-8, Luke 12: 27-30 Retell, in any form, a narrative that corresponds to the scripture source used Retell the story of Jesus growing up in a family who loved and cared for him. They will be able to retell some of the psalms and they will know something about the love and care Jesus experienced as a child. YEAR 2 UNIT 1 : DOMESTIC CHURCH: BEGINNINGS God is present in every beginning. The story of Creation, God made the world. God made us and loves us. The importance of prayer; morning prayer and a litany. A psalm is a song of praise to God. KNOWLEDGE & UNDERSTANDING (LEARNING ABOUT): Recognise religious stories Children will be able to recognise the story of Creation as a religious story. Genesis 1: 3, 9, 20, 24-26, Psalm 8: 3-11, Psalm 139: 14-18, Psalm 19: 1-5, Ephesians 1: 3-5 Retell, in any form, a narrative that corresponds to the scripture source used Children will be able to retell the story of Creation or some phrases from the psalms. Recognise religious beliefs Recognise that people act in a particular way because of their beliefs Children will be able to recognise that people are kind and loving because God made them. Recognise key figures in the history of the People of God Use religious words and phrases Children will be able to recognise and use some religious words and phrases about types of prayer. Children will be able to retell some of the advice offered by Paul in his letters about living together as a family and the life of the Holy Family.
