Date: Sunday mornings, May 27 and June 3 Place: Narthex The Compassion and Assistance Subcommittee will hold their annual Share Your Perennials and houseplant event before and after service on Sunday, May 27 and June 3. Plan to start potting plants you wish to share. Drop off is before church services and tables will be set up in the Narthex for your donations. Tag the pots or plastic bags with the following information: Plant name Plant color Sun or shade 1

ELDERBERRIES Date: Friday, June 1, 2018 Time: 11:00 a.m. Place: Christian Fellowship Center The Elderberries welcome Bobbie Strobhar, a very well-known harpist for over 30 years in the Dayton area - principal harpist for the Miami Valley Symphony Orchestra, Wright State Orchestra, and Wright State Wind Orchestra. She has played for weddings, anniversary and birthday parties, funerals, hospital and nursing homes. At a Cincinnati Hospital, she plays for cancer, oncology, dialysis, and rehab medical departments. She teaches students of all ages. A $7.00 donation is requested for lunch - a brown bag lunch may be brought in place of lunch if desired. Sign up sheets are in the Narthex or outside the church office in the lower level. You can also call the church office (433-1810) to make your reservations. Lunch will be a bagged lunch including a chicken salad croissant, carrot and celery sticks, potato chips, banana and cookie. CHURCH FAMILY FUN NIGHT Dates: Friday, June 15, 2018 (Drive- In) Friday, July 20 (Game Night) Friday, August 17 (Painting) Time: 6:00 p.m. Place: Christian Fellowship Center Who is invited? You and anyone you know! Parents and their kids! Grandparents with their grandchildren! Your family and neighbors. You don't have to be a member of Southminster to attend. The only requirement is that you do need to be willing to have fun. There is no cost and you will be fed a fun meal. 2

For additional upcoming events, be sure to visit our website GROWTH GROUPS SIX THEMES IN THE BIBLE EVERYONE SHOULD KNOW Dates: Sunday, June 3, 2018 through Sunday, July 1, 2018 Facilitator: Steve Davis Times: 8:45am to 9:45am Location: Hospitality Room Six Themes in the Bible Everyone Should Know, a new adult class, will begin on Sunday June 3 at 8:45 am in the Hospitality Room. This 5-week class facilitated by Steve Davis will take a wide angle look at the Bible and trace the great arc of God s creation from the garden to Garden City. It will explore themes that begin in the early chapters of Genesis, span the pages of Scripture, and end with the glorious vision in the book of Revelation of the new Jerusalem, the city of God s redeemed people. Purchase of the book of the same name by Barry Ensign-George is encouraged but not mandatory. WAKING UP WHITE AND FINDING MYSELF IN THE STORY OF RACE Dates: Friday mornings, June 1, 8, 15, and 22 Facilitator: Gay Amos Times: 10:00-11:30am Location: Hospitality Room 3

OPPORTUNITIES TO SERVE THE CASTLE NEWS Thanks to the generosity of the Southminster congregation over $300.00 was collected for The Castle's use to have a Memorial Day picnic for the people who gather there. The Mission Team thanks you for your faithful support of this ministry. The June and July food donation sign-up sheets for The Castle are now available on the Mission board in the Narthex. INFORMATION OF INTEREST MEMORIAL DAY The office is closed on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. PARKING LOT RESURFACING BEGINNING JUNE 4 Our parking lot resurface will commence on June 4. Please do not park in the upper lot close to Far Hills the week of June 4. The lower lot entering from Alex Bell will still be available for parking. MARK YOUR CALENDARS! Session has called a special congregational meeting June 24, immediately following worship. The purpose of this meeting will be to elect an Associate Pastor Nominating Committee (APNC). Look for more details and for a proposed slate for the APNC from nominating committee in coming weeks. The Mentoring Collaborative of Montgomery County is providing another free opportunity to complete background checks following worship on June 3. Contact Erin Dickerson for more information. CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRIES PLANNING RETREAT It is time to begin planning for next year s children and youth ministries and it is important to include a wide variety of voices in this process. This includes parents, volunteers, youth and anyone who has an interest in the faith formation of young people in our church. Please join us for dinner and a two hour planning session.
