Sharing the Changeless Christ in a Changing World! Of course, we know the sad ending. We needed another miracle; we didn t get it. Such is life, or as my wife Donna has to constantly remind me: Honey, it s only a game! Yeah, right! As highly as we value sports in our culture and winning teams in our wonderful state, as the body of Christ we understand that there is a miracle far greater than anything in all of sports: It is the miracle of salvation through faith in Christ by the power of the Holy Spirit. This is the greatest miracle, because it produces the greatest blessing, eternal life. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life (1 John 5:11,12). You and I have the REVEREND. opportunity to be part of the greatest Minneapolis Miracle when evangelist Nick Hall comes to U.S. Bank Stadium on Friday, May 18 th, at 7 p.m. Hall will preach the Gospel, hopefully to a packed stadium of 66,000 people. How will it get packed? As you and I prayerfully invite our friends, coworkers, classmates, and family members, and bring them to this amazing event featuring two-time Grammy Award winning hip-hop artist Lecrae. Following the event, Redeemer Lutheran Church will host a 7-session discipleship seminar called Alpha on seven consecutive Sundays, 5-7 p.m., starting May 20 th. All Redeemer friends and members are invited to this valuable seminar. In Christ, REFLECTIONS

2 Redeemer Good News May 2018 REDEEMER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY Submitted by Linda Wiebold, School Administrator WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL, REDEEMER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY, SPECIAL I'd love to share a little about our school that you won't find on the website. I have been blessed to be a part of the school since 1980, and have taught grades 1-8 through the years, taking some time off to be a mom and substitute teacher. I am now the School Administrator. We offer teachings for a LIFEtime: Learning, Integrity, Faith and Excellence. We teachers have the same educational training public school teachers have, plus we have training in teaching the Christian faith. We teach what the Bible teaches; it is our manual for instructing children how to live a Godly life. For more information please see the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod website: https://www.lcms.org/about/beliefs. We currently have 124 children in our school, from 3 year old preschoolers to 8th graders. In addition to our excellent curriculum, we offer instruction in STEM (gr. 5-8), music, band, violin, 30 world languages through Rosetta Stone, computer class and gym class. We have 10 classrooms, a full-sized gym with bleachers and an electronic scoreboard, locker rooms, a music room, computer room, cafeteria that serves hot lunches and all the fruit and veggies you can eat each day, and a World Language lab. We offer an extended care program before school at 7:00a and after school until 5:30 each school night. How do we get our students? Our enrollment is up over last year, and we are thankful to God for that. Most parents find us through word of mouth of happy parents or the website. Local high school coaches have sent parents our way, stating that there's just something about those Redeemer kids that you want in your child - they have integrity and discipline. Many of our alumni send their children here, and many alumni stop in to visit! How can parents be involved? Our parents and teachers volunteer many hours helping us to offer after school programs such as archery, boy's and girl's basketball, flag football, cross country and volleyball. We have two large trophy cases which are overflowing with trophies. Our basketball teams have won many state and even national tournaments as evidenced by the postings on the gym walls. Parents provide staff meals We have an academic fair each year, rotating between science, social studies, math and the Bible. We have a Spelling Bee each year for gr. 1-8. Winners move on to the local Lutheran high school, where they accrue team points toward personal ribbons and a school trophy. We re proud of the many Spelling Bee trophies in our trophy case. We also have Christmas and spring musical offerings. Our children are taught to treat each other like a family - the family of God. We pair up older children as mentors to younger children for chapel each week. We say the pledge of allegiance, as well as the pledge to the cross. We give hugs and high fives - we treat the children as if they're our (RCA continued on page 3) REDEEMER CHRISTIAN ACADEMY Teachings for a LIFEtime: Learning Integrity Faith Excellence Linda Wiebold School Administrator Phone (952) 473-5356 ext. 219 Email lwiebold@redeemerwayzata.org Website school.redeemerwayzata.org Facebook Wayzata Redeemer Lutheran School SCHOOL WEBSITE: school.redeemerwayzata.org

Tours are available by contacting Linda Wiebold, School Administrator at lwiebold@redeemerwayzata.org or 952/473-5356. We're proud of the teachings we impart for a lifetime! PULSE TWIN CITIES EVENT TO BE FOLLOWED UP BY ALPHA COURSE AT REDEEMER Submitted by Alan Dewey PULSE Twin Cities is an opportunity to fill all 66,200 seats in U.S. Bank Stadium with people who need to hear the message that Jesus changes everything. Two years ago, a few Twin Cities pastors started dreaming with PULSE about an outreach event in U.S. Bank Stadium. Now the culmination of a season of outreach in the Twin Cities has resulted in a PULSE Twin Cities event that will feature popular music artists Lacrae and Hillsong Young & Free. Nick Hall will speak at the event, which will be free to the public. The event takes place on Friday night, May 18 th at U.S. Bank Stadium starting at 7 PM. The Redeemer community has been preparing for this event by encouraging members to think about FIVE people who they might invite to this free event. Keep5 cards have been passed out to the congregation (and are still available in the church lobby) on which you can list five people you know who need to know Jesus. The hope is that these cards will be a reminder to not only pray for these people but to actually invite them to the event yourselves. Alpha at Redeemer As an immediate follow-up to the PULSE event, Redeemer will be hosting an Alpha course in the Gathering Room beginning Sunday, May 20 th. Alpha is a series of sessions exploring different questions around faith and is designed to create conversation. Alpha is run around the world, and everyone is welcome. Alpha sessions at Redeemer will begin at 5:00 PM with dinner in the Gathering Room. Alpha starts with food because it s a great way to way to encourage community and get to know each other. After dinner a short talk (30 minutes or less) will be given. The talks unpack the big questions of faith such as Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? Probably the most important part of any Alpha is the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There s no obligation to say anything. And there s nothing you can t say. It s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment. The Alpha course at Redeemer is hoping to inspire those who attend the PULSE event to learn more about Christianity in a nonthreatening, friendly environment. Members of Redeemer are encouraged to invite those on their PULSE Take5 list to the Alpha course. Even existing believers, who feel a need to re-ignite their faith, may also want to consider taking the Alpha course. Alpha at Redeemer will be held in the Gathering Room on Sundays beginning May 20th at 5:00 PM with dinner and run through July 1. Questions on Redeemer s Alpha course should be directed to Andy Start at 763 370 9689 (email: andystart@yahoo.com).

With the moving music, singing, and readings, it was a time to really feel closer to our Lord during the crucifixion. Here are some of the comments on the service: Wow I felt goose bumps all night He really suffered, for me. 12 Redeemer Good News May 2018 LUTHERAN WOMEN S MISSIONARY LEAGUE UPDATE Submitted by Anna Gerber LWML PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY MAKE ME A SERVANT Heavenly Father, open my eyes to the needs of others so that I may serve them in your name. Through my small efforts, help me to demonstrate your love. I ask also that you grant divine healing to the sick, comfort to the bereaved, friendship to the lonely, and abundance to those in need. I thank you for your blessings and for the mercies you show to all of us. Amen WHAT IS A PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY? Before a prayer shawl is begun, a prayer is said by the creator of the shawl, dedicating their work and for the person who will eventually be the recipient of the shawl. It is a gift freely given with no strings attached. The shawl is a symbolic reminder of the Love that God wraps around us in joy and in sorrow. WHEN IS A PRAYER SHAWL GIVEN? Redeemer LWML s first prayer shawl was dedicated on October 1, 2006. Since that time, 74 prayer shawls have been presented to those who were ill, facing surgery, or mourning. But there are other times that prayer shawls are given. Since April 2007, eighty (80) baby shawls have been presented to infants baptized at Redeemer. Prayer shawls are available for anyone who attends Redeemer to present to others. There is NO single person who is designated to make or deliver prayer shawls. It is an open ministry and all members of Redeemer are invited to participate with making of the shawls or presenting the shawls. We will be collecting prayer shawls to be dedicated on LWML Sunday sometime later this fall. UPCOMING LWML EVENTS June 29-30, 2018 MN SOUTH DISTRICT LWML CONVENTION at Verizon Event Center, Mankato. Registration is open to everyone wishing to attend. It will be two days of Bible Study/ fellowship mixed in with some necessary business. Also, new this year will be a SILENT AUCTION to raise money for mites. More information in the WOM newsletter which can be found in the rack across from the nursery. SUNDAY WORSHIP & PRAISE: 8:15 am and 10:45 am, CHRISTIAN EDUCATION-All Ages: 9:30 am FROM THE LUTHERAN BRAILLE WORK CENTER CELEBRATE!! CELEBRATE!! CELEBRATE!! For over 75 years Lutheran Braille Workers has been reaching out with God s saving Word to people who are visually impaired. WOW! What a milestone to celebrate! The Work Center at Redeemer has been up and running for less than a year with a handful of dedicated volunteers, who spend Monday and Friday afternoons punching pages, backs and covers, numbering pages and assembling sets, then printing and binding books to be shipped to China, South Africa, Malawi (Central Africa) Nigeria, Cameroon, Ghana, Columbia, Canada,, Guatemala, Tanzania, and Italy. We ship 37 copies each month which in 9 months of operation totals 254 copies of the book of Revelation and 99 copies of the Devotional With This Ring. Well done, Volunteers! In the words of St. Paul: I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. (Philippians 1:3-6) We pray: Heavenly Father, We thank you for the gift of sight which allows us to enjoy your beautiful creation and to read and study your Word. We often take for granted that gift and lack appreciation for your creation Submitted by Anna Gerber (like the snow falling this afternoon as this is being written) and the ability to study your Word. By remembering now, those who live their lives in darkness, help us to be more mindful of the needs of those who cannot see. Though we cannot restore their sight, we can bring the gospel message and your love to them through this outreach ministry. Bless the volunteers who have given of their time and talents and those who may be thinking of joining them in the months to come. In Jesus Name, Amen!
