The week culminates on Saturday when the nation will gather together as one... in 17 stadiums and fields in the heart of all 17 states. Learn more about joining Asbury s team for 1Nation1Day on Sunday, October 9. Adopt a Teacher On October 2, we are launching our Adopt a Teacher Program here at Asbury! This program will expand our partnership with our two adopted elementary schools, Grove Elementary in the Union Public School District, right in Asbury s backyard, and Walt Whitman Elementary in Tulsa Public Schools, located at 36th Street North. You will find not only their name, their contact information and favorite things, but also their classroom needs. We would love for each one of these teachers to be adopted, cared for and loved for the entire school year. Our heart is that you would establish a relationship with them, get to know them, help them out with their classroom needs and get to know their kids too. You can adopt an individual alone, with a group of friends or as a family. These schools are in great need of support. The majority of the school population is on free or reduced lunch. Any help or support that you can provide will be appreciated. We have many Asbury volunteers that serve throughout the year at these schools in a mentoring capacity, but we need more help. This is a perfect opportunity for people with restrictive schedules or have activities during the day to make a real and lasting difference. These teachers are excited to be partnering with you and to welcome your love and support! Questions you might have: 1. Can I share my faith in Christ with the teacher? Yes Adopt a Teacher Name: Kaitlyn Hansen Email: hanseka@tulsaschool.org Birthday: June 1 College: Oklahoma State University Favorite drink: Sweet tea Needs List: Contact paper, Construction paper, Treasure Box Items 2. What should I do first after I have adopted a teacher? The best thing to do first is to email them and introduce yourself. 3. How do you stay connected to the teacher throughout the year? Email them regularly for prayer concerns. If comfortable try to visit the class and possibly meet with the teacher for prayer during her free hour. Asbury is also going to set up a Facebook group for Grove and Walt Whitman so you can keep in touch through posts, videos and pictures. 4. How do I package my donation to the teacher or classroom? Please make sure your donation is all in one package or bag. Mark the teacher s name and school boldly on your bag. Place inside the box in the appropriate school box in the library. 5. Where do I drop off donations? Grove Donations will be picked up on Tuesday every week and delivered on Wednesday to the school. Deliver to the library and place in the appropriate box marked with your school name. Walt Whitman Donations will be dropped off every week. Deliver to the library and place in the appropriate box marked with your school name. 6. At Walt Whitman, they list treasure chest items. What does that mean? Treasure chest items are play-doh, stickers, bouncy balls, etc. This is anything that is available on the dollar aisle for kid prizes when you show good behavior.

Next Steps - Are you new to Asbury? - Are you looking for a deeper, more meaningful connection with Jesus? If the answer is yes, our Discipleship Pathway is the way to get connected and grow spiritually alongside others. This initiative is our vision in action. Asbury s mission is HELPING OTHERS FOLLOW JESUS. Following Him provides direction in our lives, gives meaning, heals the hurting and secures our salvation and eternity with God.
