May 13, 2018 January 20, 2019 Rev. Bill Reinhart, Pastor Today s Sermon: Unafraid: Living with Courage and Hope: Friendless and Alone? From the beginning of creation, God recognized our need for relationship- with God, and with other people. That s easy to affirm for people with partners, spouses, family, and friends, but what about people who have lost or perhaps never had those human connections? God offers hope to those who feel friendless, and a clear command to those of us with love to share. We are glad that you are here! Questions? Ask anyone with a red nametag for information about our church. Welcome Flyers for new worshipers are found on the Welcome Table in the entryway. Please fill out the Thanks for Being Here card in the pew rack. Time will be given to write any prayer requests and/or comments on your worship experience on the back of the card, then place it in the offering plate. A staffed nursery is available in the education wing for children 5 & under. Children s activity bags for worship are available on the rack by the bookshelf. Copies of the sermon manuscript are available before the service from any usher, and can also be found posted on our church website. Words will be projected for all songs. Some songs are also found in the red hymnal, black hymnal or gray songbook found in your pew and page numbers are listed accordingly in your bulletin. Coffee is served between worship services each week in the Fellowship Hall from 9:20-10:20. Devotional resources are available on the bookshelf in the entryway. Hearing assist devices are available, please ask an usher. 8:15 am Joyful Praise Worship 10:30 am Celebration Worship Coffee Fellowship & Education 9:20-10:20 am

Happening Today Sunday School Classes run from 9:20-10:20 am for children ages 3 through 8 th grade. Classrooms are marked in the ed wing hallways. 7th & 8th graders meet in the youth room. The Human Relations Offering will be received today to support neighborhood community development ministries; provide community advocacy in the United States and Puerto Rico through the United Methodist Voluntary Services; and work with at-risk youth through the Youth Offender Rehabilitation Program. This is one of six annual UM special offerings. Envelopes are in your pew racks. The First Grade Faith Stepping Stones Class is today during the Sunday School Hour. Parents and students will learn about the different types of prayer and the different ways to pray. Next Sunday during worship they will receive their prayer books and a blessing from the congregation. Families may attend either service. Coming Up Chili Cook-Off Next Sunday Sign up today to enter your chili in the Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, January 27! (See below) Unafraid Study Underway Though it began last Sunday, you could still catch up and participate in the study between services by reading the companion book to our worship series by Adam Hamilton, Unafraid Living with Hope and Courage in Uncertain Times. Books are available in the entryway for $16 to use in personal study on your own, or to join the 5-week study between services which started last week in the adult conference room. Cribbage Tournament & Game Day Our annual cribbage tournament takes place in conjunction with the Chili Cook-Off and Game Day on Sunday, January 27. We ll do a one day tournament starting at 11:30 or so and wrapping up by 2:30 with a winner announced. Come join the fun, and invite a friend! Sign up today in the entryway!! If you could help, even with one of the daily trips, please call Sue Kiphuth at 612-240-5168. Lois is on wait list for assisted living, so not sure how long the need will be, but all help is appreciated! Social Media and Website Revamp As we begin a new year, we are seeking people who might help us step up our social media presence through intentional posts and processes as part of our MCCI Social Media team. Let s start the new year with some fresh ideas! If you would consider being part of this team, please talk with Sara Biren or Laurie Schroeder. We hope to get started soon! There is a free online tutorial you can do, also. We also hope to form our MCCI Website team very soon. Again, if you would consider being part of the team to upgrade and contemporize our website, please see Laurie. Whether you have technical skills, artistic skills or willingness to be part of the team to maintain and keep it fresh all are needed! Confirmation Corner This Wednesday, January 23 is a focus night. Remember, the mandatory Confirmation Retreat is on January 26-27. All students and Faith Partners will have a blast.

Next Sunday Unafraid: Living with Courage and Hope - Fear of Failure Nobody makes it through life without making mistakes. As unpleasant as it can be, failure is a necessary part of learning. When our fear of failure holds us back from becoming the person God wants us to be, it s time to remind ourselves that God has promised to strengthen us and go with us, no matter how daunting the challenge. Music by The Heart Strings Trio with John Hagen, Kellie Strub and Bob Strommen; also Kay Hagen. Prayer Matters Pat Bowe was put into hospice at Bethesda this past Wednesday. Please pray for their entire family. Wendy Fitch appreciates prayers to calm anxieties as they await Jace s head plate surgery on January 25. Prayers for all who are struggling financially, that we may trust God s plan.
