Wiersbe We are in the middle of the series on 1 Peter, and on the first Sunday, we talked about hope and how we achieve it. How have you done with that? With all the changes going on here, you may be finding it difficult to have any hope. However, we need to remember our hope is not what s going on around us, but what is to come. As believers, our hope is heavenward not about the issues going on around us. When you feel like you are losing hope, maybe it is time to get your Bible off the shelf and open it. Maybe you need a focus change? Most of our loss of joy is perspective. Is it heavenward or earth, is the loss of joy because stuff has failed to work? Many of our problems stem from the stuff we have - broken car, water heater, washer, dryer, our stuff. Alternatively, maybe another person in our life who lets us down when we needed them. However, Peter tells us God is to be our focus, not this world. We have an imperishable hope held by God himself. 1 Peter 1:4-5New Living Translation (NLT) 4 and we have a priceless inheritance an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay. 5 And through your faith, God is protecting you by his power until you receive this salvation, which is ready to be revealed on the last day for all to see. God protects us by His power. However, some of you are saying, but I am so sick, I am so sad, I do not understand if God is protecting me why all this suffering? Here again, we need a perspective change; this world is not our home, remember? In this world, we will have troubles at lest I think Jesus told us that? John 16:33New Living Translation (NLT) 33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth, you will have many trials and sorrows. However, take heart, because I have overcome the world. You see our joy or peace is in Jesus not in this world. We can be joyful in the midst of trials because we know where we are going and that Jesus has promised us perfection in heaven. So, during this time of transition remember God love is you and died on the cross for you, and extends His grace to you. If you cannot find this grace and joy, maybe it is time to get right with God. He extends His perfect grace to you. Always remember God loves you and wants a relationship with you. The world's favorite season is the spring. All things seem possible in May." - Edwin Way Teale ~Pastor Jim

2 Photo s This Month for the Newsletter Due to technical difficulties, there are no pictures this month. If you have any pictures that you would like to share and have added in the newsletter next month, feel free to email them to nan4hartley@comcast.net Helping Those in Need Occasionally we receive requests at the church for items that are needed by someone in need. Those items might be a walker, bath stool, crutches, etc. The need could be temporary or permanent. I have a closet in my home dedicated to similar items that were used by my mother in her final days. I have been told there is a place for them at Seminary Church. I would like to donate these items for further use. If you have similar items that are clean and useable, we will find a place for them as well. Please be advised that they may find a permanent home! ~Brooke Branyan Save the Date! On Saturday, May 20, all women of the church are invited to a Love Luncheon honoring Kathy Tormey for her dedication, hard work and love of this community. There will be additional information forthcoming in the bulletin. ~Brooke Branyan Pastor Parish Relations Update The PPR committee has been busy this past month with three meetings with the District Supervisor Dave Neckers and Christ s Church. We were called together to learn that we would have to say good bye to our beloved Pastor and friend Jim Tormey and his very lovely wife Kathy. Dave gave us guidelines and lots of paper work to begin to find a fit for our 2 churches. Both churches were to fill out the forms and then come back together to combine them. We then sent them back to Dave and we again met to go over the work and to clarify our decisions. Dave shared with us that on the 18/19 th of April he would meet with the Bishop to fill the position. I have not heard from Mr. Neckers as of this writing. Jim and Kathy have been with us for six years. The DS has some big shoes to fill. We have enjoyed the love and friendship of Jim and Kathy. Personally, they were my sponsor for my Emmaus Walk. So, I know firsthand the Love and Commitment to Jesus Christ that Jim and Kathy have. We have all heard Jim in the pulpit and his insistent cry for us to all have a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior. That is Love. Jim and Kathy s Bible Studies were amazing and filled with more Love as was Kids Club, Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, visiting the sick/grieving and building floats. Jim s last Sunday will be June 18 though they will be with us enjoying and working with the kids for VBS through Thursday. We are planning a party for them Saturday evening, June 17 at Christ s Church. Our church will be transformed into VBS so will not be available for the festivities. There will be more information in the next newsletter. ~Carol Johnson, Chairperson Country Store Be sure to stop in at the Country Store and look at our new items on display. You may find just the right Mothers Day or Graduation gift. We have received some new jigsaw puzzles that you might like--only 50 cents. We have also received some new books which you may enjoy reading. As you are doing your Spring Cleaning, remember we can always use new donations. Thanks for your continued support. ~Carolyn Hartley-Johns and Jo DeFord

4 A Proper Perspective - By Charles R. Swindoll Luke 14:33 Jesus' words are neither complicated nor vague. He simply says, "If you are going to call yourself one of My disciples, you must release your grip on materialism." To keep all this in proper perspective, think of it this way. He is not saying that we cannot possess anything, but things must not be allowed to possess us. To use His words, we must "give up" our possessions. Corrie ten Boom, that saintly lady who endured such brutality from the Nazis in Ravensbruck during World War II, once said that she had learned to hold everything loosely in her hand. She said she discovered, in her years of walking with Him, that when she grasped things tightly, it would hurt when the Lord would have to pry her fingers loose. Disciples hold all "things" loosely. Do you? Can you think of anything that has a tap root to your heart? Let go! Give it up to Him! Yes, it may be painful... but how essential! God doesn t mind that we own possessions, just so they don t own us. Charles R. Swindoll DeLynn Johnson Matt Baker 2141 N Evergreen St Apt. 2057 N Chandler AZ 85225
