Transcription:

Philippians 3:1-14 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord! It is no trouble for me to write the same things to you again, and it is a safeguard for you. 2 Watch out for those dogs, those evildoers, those mutilators of the flesh. 3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who serve God by his Spirit, who boast in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence.

If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.

7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

10 I want to know Christ yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead. 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me.

13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

1) A Prisoner Mentality (vs. 1)

Philippians 3:1 1 Further, my brothers and sisters, rejoice in the Lord!

Acts 28:30-31 30 For two whole years Paul stayed there in his own rented house and welcomed all who came to see him. 31 He proclaimed the kingdom of God and taught about the Lord Jesus Christ with all boldness and without hindrance

What is perhaps the most extraordinary aspect of Paul s life is his ministry of letter writing

Paul writes Philippians, Ephesians, Colossians and Philemon, which are known as the captivity epistles

We can suffer with a prisoner s mentality Why am I in this season of my life? I do not deserve this This is the end of my life

Like Paul, you and I can change a prisoner mentality into a pioneering mentality by rejoicing in all circumstances

Philippians 4:4 4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

Rejoicing is not a natural response, but a supernatural response to the adversity in our lives

Galatians 4:7 So you are no longer a slave, but God's child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.

We rejoice knowing whose we are not who we think we are

2) A Privilege Mentality (vs. 4-6)

Philippians 3:4-6 4 If someone else thinks they have reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for righteousness based on the law, faultless.

We can suffer with a privilege mentality Do you know who I am? I ve been here for x number of years I ve accomplished this, I ve accomplished that As a mature Christian They couldn t have done that without me These people owe me

Acts 22:3 3 I am a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city. I studied under Gamaliel and was thoroughly trained in the law of our ancestors. I was just as zealous for God as any of you are today.

Our spiritual resume might sound like Paul s and might impress our peers, but it fails to impress God

Some of us are depending on what we did for God in the past to carry us into the future

3) A Profit Mentality (vs. 7-11)

Philippians 3:7-11 7 But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ

9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith. 10 I want to know Christ yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

If I have you, I have everything, but without you, I have nothing. Always Enough - Kari Jobe

Pioneers in the kingdom determine the profit of every decision or action in light of Jesus Christ

A) Knowledge of Christ

Philippians 3:8 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord

B) Position in Christ

Philippians 3:9 9 And be found in him

C) Righteousness in Christ

Philippians 3:9 not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ the righteousness that comes from God on the basis of faith.

D) Likeness of Christ

Philippians 3:10 10 I want to know Christ yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death

E) Glory with Christ

Philippians 3:11 11 And so, somehow, attaining to the resurrection from the dead.

4) A Prize Mentality

Philippians 3:12-14 12 Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

If you are in Christ, you are not simply a citizen of Canada. You are a citizen of heaven!

Philippians 3:20-21 20 But our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, 21 who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.

Colossians 3:1-4 1 Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.

Hebrews 12:1-2 And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us, 2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith.
