What s inside... Message From Father, Evangelical Catholic, Welcome New Members, Sacraments Mass Schedules & Intentions, Student Tuition Assistance News, Activities, Prayer & Thought Faith Formation, School Activities, Financials Parish Contacts 6 2 3 4 5 MESSAGE FROM FATHER JIM In a General Audience of May, 2015 Pope Francis addressed the issue of human work. The Pope explained that work complements our moments of celebration and is also a part of God s creative design. Through work the family is cared for and children are provided with a dignified life. It makes me sad, when I see people without work, who do not find work and haven t the dignity of bringing bread home and it cheers me when I see that political leaders make great efforts to find jobs and to seek to make sure that everyone has a job. Work is sacred, work gives dignity to a family: we must pray that work be not lacking in any family. May God prosper the work of our hands. (Ps. 90). A Blessed Labor Day to all. Archdiocesan Mission Co-op Collection thank you. As announced at Masses last weekend, $7,586.00 was collected the weekend of August 12/13 and forwarded to the Archdiocese to be added to the other parishes in which the Daughters of Divine Love spoke as part of this year s Mission Co-op Appeal. Again I express my thanks for your generosity in helping those who serve in our name bring the good news of God s love in Jesus to others. EVANGELICAL CATHOLIC All parishioners are encouraged to come to an evening of inspiration, direction, and encounter to learn how just 1% of your day can radically change the other 99. The first of 3 parish missions offered for us this year by the organization Evangelical Catholic. Get on board, and be transformed! Thursday, September 7 from 7-8:30pm in the St. Cecilia Church Sanctuary. Free Childcare provided. Please Welcome New Members who joined us in August 2017 Bernard Canniffe & Lisa Prichard Family Michelle Elliott Family Sean Gerhardt Benjamin Hartwell Cole Hopkins Natalie Kelley Family Joeng Lee & Wanyong Shin Family Gary & Marie Lyn Family Lesley & Andrew Olswing Family Angela Pasquale Aaron & Stacy Sassman Family Joseph & Jodi Steffes Family Jose Tapia & Diana Carranza Family Are you new to St. Cecilia s, moving back, just married, attending Mass but never officially registered? Please Remember in Your Prayers: David Tope May the Lord grant peace and consolation to his family in their time of need. May he, and all who sleep in Christ, find in God s presence, light, happiness and peace. STEPHEN MINISTRY Who Benefits from Stephen Ministry? Everybody benefits from Stephen Ministry. Those receiving care from Stephen Ministers benefit because they receive prayer and support throughout the crisis they face. Stephen Ministers benefit through the spiritual growth they experience from being involved in meaningful ministry. Our pastor benefits because caring ministry at St. Cecilia's is expanded, and fewer people will slip through the cracks. Most of all you benefit from the knowledge that special care is available to you should you need it. In addition, you now have a place where you can refer a friend, neighbor, coworker, relative, or anyone else you know who is going through a difficult time so that they can receive special care when they need it most. For more information, call Ann Schmitt (515-291-8257 or Deacon Mark Bortle (515-291-4989). FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FOR ST. CECILIA STUDENTS As we begin the Fall schedule we find there is an ongoing need for Tuition Assistance contributions to assist families with tuition for the school, for faith formation, and for youth ministry. With the educational opportunities we have at St. Cecilia, it is a blessing to see so many families wanting to help their children grow in their faith. Some families, however, experience financial setbacks from time to time and appreciate the assistance we offer them. If you would be interested in contributing to this fund please make checks payable to St. Cecilia Church and mark the memo line that the contribution is to support the financial assistance program. Contributions to the local tuition assistance program are deductible on your taxes for 2017. Thank you for considering a contribution to the assistance program. At the end of the reading Jesus suggests there is great hope in the cross. Reflect this week on the cross you bear in order to reveal God s glory. How do you embrace that cross? How, at times, do you shirk that cross when it is not convenient? Marriage Corner: Whoever wishes to come after me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.: (Mt 16:24).
