Advent Calendar and Mission Project This Advent season, Shiloh Church is reaching out to support those in need, while providing families a time to come together each day and to remember the reason that we celebrate this season of anticipation. Join us as we take time during Advent to prepare meaningful gifts for Christmas Eve, when we will bring in the items below to support Shiloh Missions (this year s mission funds will support Shiloh Missionaries in Cambodia who rescue girls from human trafficking through Destiny s Rescue). This project has three parts, with a craft OPTION (Focus on the Family Advent Calendar) each day (see following pages for each day s details): 1. Read the scripture listed (and optional devotion on that day s Advent Calendar card). 2. Light your Advent wreath and/or cut out the piece for your nativity set and display it. 3. Place a gift in a bag or envelope (two gift options are below). Option 1: Financial gift for Shiloh Missions Some ideas for a financial gift that increases daily: (dollars: Day 1 - $1.00, Day 2 - $2.00, etc Total is $435.00 for 29 days) or (quarters: Day 1 - $0.25, Day 2 - $0.50, etc Total is $108.75 for 29 days) or dimes, pennies, or any other way that makes sense for your family OR Option 2: Item listed to support Destiny s Rescue Here is a shopping list of items you ll need, if you choose Option 2: Day 1: family photo or note Day 2: barrettes or bow Day 3: Dove soap Day 4: tote bag Day 5: lip balm Day 6: soft girl socks (various sizes) Day 7: fun girl socks (various sizes) Day 8: gummy vitamins (small bottle) Day 9: pocket-sized flashlight w/ battery Day 10: stationery/ journal Day 11: letter of encouragement Day 12: toothpaste Day 13: toothbrush Day 14: votive-size (small) candle Day 15: compact mirror Day 16: (golden) dollar Day 17: sewing kit Day 18: deodorant Day 19: band-aids Day 20: hard candy individually wrapped Day 21: travel game or deck of cards Day 22: markers/pens Day 23: pocket Bible or New Testament Day 24 - Day 29: Each day write a note of encouragement.

THE DEVOTIONAL ADVENT CALENDAR IS A RESOURCE OF FOCUS ON THE FAMILY. Day 1: (donation: family photo or $1.00 or $0.25) Micah 5:2 Bethlehem is the city of David, Jesus s family. Place something that represents your family (family photo, note telling about your family ) near your nativity. Day 2: (barrettes/$2.00/$0.50) Matthew 21:8, John 12:13 The people of Jerusalem waved palm branches, welcoming Jesus as a king. Place a jeweled crown (pretty barrettes/bows/hair ties) near your nativity for our girls. Day 3: (Dove soap/$3.00/$0.75) Jeremiah 48:28, Song of Songs, 2:12 The dove is a symbol of peace. Place a bar of Dove soap near your nativity. Day 4: (tote bag/$4.00/$1.00) Matthew 21:1-2 The donkey carried Jesus in Jerusalem on Palm Sunday. Place items from days 1-3 in your tote bag to help our girls carry a precious load. Day 5: (lip balm/$5.00/$1.25) Matthew 23:37 Jesus weeps for Jerusalem. Jesus is like a hen, gathering and protecting His chicks. Place protective chapstick or lip balm in your bag. Day 6: (soft socks/$6.00/$1.50) John 10:14-15 Jesus is the Good Shepherd who comforts and cares for us. The sheep know the Shepherd. Place a pair of soft socks in your bag to comfort our girl. Day 7: (fun socks/$7.00/$1.75) John 1:29, 1 Peter 1:16-19 Jesus is the lamb, sacrificed for us so that we may live life to the fullest. Place a pair of fun socks in your bag. Day 8: (vitamins/$8.00/$2.00) Revelation 5:5-6 John s vision of the future the Lamb opens the door of life (Jesus is the lion and the lamb). Place a small bottle of gummy vitamins in your bag to give our girl strength like a lion. Day 9: (flashlight/$9.00/$2.25) Luke 2: 8-9, Isaiah 40:5 The glory of the Lord and the light of God are shining around us. Place a pocket-sized flashlight in the bag. Day 10: (stationery/$10.00/$2.50) Luke 1: 26-30 Mary received surprising news from the angel Gabriel. Place stationery or a journal in your bag to share good news. Day 11: (letter of encouragement/$11.00/$2.75) Luke 2:10-14 The angels delivered the message that the Messiah had arrived for rich and poor. Place in your bag a letter of encouragement for Destiny s Rescue. Share what Shiloh is doing. If you have young children, have them draw pictures of Jesus s birth. Day 12: (toothpaste/$12.00/$3.00) Luke 2:15-16 Shepherds were hired to keep sheep, but did not interact with other people much. They didn t have the opportunity to clean themselves regularly, because they were in the fields. Place a tube of toothpaste into your bag.

Day 13: (toothbrush/$13.00/$3.25) Luke 2: 16-18, 20 The shepherds heard the great news the Christ child was in stable! Place a toothbrush in your bag. Day 14: (candle/$14.00/$3.50) Matthew 2:1 The wise men came later, not at the nativity. The light of the star led them to search for Jesus. Place a candle in your bag to be a light. Day 15: (mirror/$15.00/$3.75) Matthew 2:1-2 The Star of Bethlehem, which the wise men followed, was unique among the stars. Place a compact mirror in your bag, so our girl may see her uniqueness. Day 16: (dollar/$16.00/$4.00) Matthew 2: 7, 9-10 The wise men brought Jesus gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. Place in your bag a dollar (GOLD). Day 17: (sewing kit/$17.00/$4.25) Matthew 19:23-24 Camels were unclean, large, and carried heavy load. Jesus said it was easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom. Place a sewing kit into your bag. Day 18: (deodorant/$18.00/$4.50) Matthew 2:11 The child Jesus didn t look like a king, but the wise men bowed to the child Jesus and presented him with gifts. Place deodorant in your bag (FRANKINCENSE). Day 19: (bandaids/$19.00/$4.75) Matthew 2:11 The gifts the wise men brought included myrrh, a burial spice used with bandages to prepare for burial. Place bandaids in your bag. Day 20: (hard candy/$20.00/$5.00) Matthew 2:7-8, 8,12 The wise men listened to a dream, routing them away from Herod to return home. What is in your dreams? Place sugarplums (hard candy) in your bag. Day 21: (travel game/$21.00/$5.25) Matthew 1:18-24 Joseph listened to an angel telling him to be Mary s husband, even though it was risky and inconvenient. Place a travel game or a card game in your bag. Day 22: (markers/pens/$22.00/$5.50) Isaiah 7:14, Luke 30-32, 38 Mary submitted to what the angel asked of her, even though she didn t understand it. Place markers or pens in your bag so each girl can write about her own faith. Day 23: (Bible or New Testament/$23.00/$5.75) John 1:14, 1 John 5:11 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen the glory of the one and only Son. And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. Place a pocket Bible or New Testament in your bag.
