Welcome PRAISE The Call to Worship Psalm 50:1-6 The Mighty One, God the LORD, speaks and summons the earth from the rising of the sun to its setting. Out of Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth. Our God comes; he does not keep silence; before him is a devouring fire, around him a mighty tempest. He calls to the heavens above and to the earth, that he may judge his people: Gather to me my faithful ones, who made a covenant with me by sacrifice! The heavens declare his righteousness, for God himself is judge! The Prayer of Invocation and The Lord s Prayer Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, and the power and the glory, forever, Amen. 2

The Hymns of Praise All Glory, Laud, and Honor, #235 3

Lord, with Glowing Heart I d Praise Thee, #80 4

The Doxology Sung to Hymn #115 Let all things their Creator bless, And worship Him with humbleness! O praise him! Alleluia! Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son, And praise the Spirit, Three in One, O praise Him! O praise Him! Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia! RENEWAL The Call to Renewal Isaiah 40:25-26 To whom then will you compare me, that I should be like him? says the Holy One. Lift up your eyes on high and see: who created these? He who brings out their host by number, calling them all by name, by the greatness of his might, and because he is strong in power not one is missing. 5

The Prayer of Confession based on A Method for Prayer by Matthew Henry Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of your inheritance? Who does not stay angry forever but delights to show mercy? O that you would have compassion on us, and tread our sins underfoot, and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea! We know that as you are gracious and merciful, so you are the righteous God who loves justice and does not leave the guilty unpunished. We cannot say, Be patient with us, and we will pay back everything, for all of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags. But Jesus Christ has become the righteousness from God for us: God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that we might become the righteousness of God in him. Remember your word to your servants, for you have given us hope. 6

The Silent Confession of Our Sins The Assurance of Forgiveness and Mercy 1 John 1:5, 7, 9; 2:1-2 This is the message we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. But if anyone does sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world. 7

The Hymn of Assurance Lamb of God Your only Son, no sin to hide, But You have sent Him from Your side To walk upon this guilty sod, And to become the Lamb of God. Your gift of love they crucified, They laughed and scorned Him as He died; The humble King they named a fraud, And sacrificed the Lamb of God. Chorus: O Lamb of God, sweet Lamb of God; I love the holy Lamb of God O wash me in His precious blood, My Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God. I was so lost I should have died, But You have brought me to Your side To be led by your staff and rod, And to be called a lamb of God. Chorus 8

COMMITMENT The Reading of God s Holy Word Zechariah 7:1-3; 8:1-8, 18-23, Pew Bible p. 515-6 7: 1 In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the Lord came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, which is Chislev. 2 Now the people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech and their men to entreat the favor of the Lord, 3 saying to the priests of the house of the Lord of hosts and the prophets, Should I weep and abstain in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years? 8: 1 And the word of the Lord of hosts came, saying, 2 Thus says the Lord of hosts: I am jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I am jealous for her with great wrath. 3 Thus says the Lord: I have returned to Zion and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem, and Jerusalem shall be called the faithful city, and the mountain of the Lord of hosts, the holy mountain. 4 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Old men and old women shall again sit in the streets of Jerusalem, each with staff in hand because of great age. 5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in its streets. 6 Thus says the Lord of hosts: If it is marvelous in the sight of the remnant of this people in those days, should it also be marvelous in my sight, declares the Lord of hosts? 7 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Behold, I will save my people from the east country and from the west country, 8 and I will bring them to dwell in the midst of Jerusalem. And they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in faithfulness and in righteousness. 18 And the word of the Lord of hosts came to me, saying, 19 Thus says the Lord of hosts: The fast of the fourth month and the fast of the fifth and the fast of the seventh and the fast of the tenth shall be to the house of Judah seasons of joy and gladness and cheerful feasts. Therefore love truth and peace. 20 Thus says the Lord of hosts: Peoples shall yet come, even the inhabitants of many cities. 21 The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go at once to entreat the favor of the Lord and to seek the Lord of hosts; I myself am going. 22 Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the Lord of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the Lord. 23 Thus says the Lord of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you. 9

The Sermon Pastor Rick Vasquez Zechariah s Battle Instructions Living Like You Belong to Jesus: The Minor Prophets The Giving of Our Tithes and Offerings* The offering is a way for Christians to support the mission and ministry of the church. Christians offer a sacrificial portion of their resources time, talents, possessions as an act of faith and gratitude in response to God s grace. The giving of our tithes and offerings is a part of our worship service as an opportunity for the regular, proportionate and generous sharing of the resources God has given us. 10 *Online giving is also available at skyviewpca.org/giving.
