We welcome this weekend to our parish Glen Segger, our new organist and Director of Music. Glen finished his commitment to the parish where he was playing last weekend and became an employee on Tuesday. Glen has played several funerals and weddings for us last month as his calendar allowed, but today is his official debut. Glen comes to us with over twenty-five years of experience as a church musician, working primarily in Episcopal and Catholic parishes. Glen is very well trained as a liturgical musician. A Canadian by birth, he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Music in Edmonton, Canada at The Kings College and the University of Alberta. He continued his studies in organ in Vienna and at Yale University where he was awarded a Master of Music with concentration in organ performance. At the same time, Glen earned a Masters degree in Religion with a focus on liturgy. Glen continued his study of liturgy at Drew University in Madison, New Jersey and was awarded his Ph.D. with distinction in Liturgical Studies in 2008. Dr. Segger continues his association with Yale as the Coordinator of the University s Institute of Sacred Music Fellows in Sacred Music Worship and the Arts. Glen, clearly, understands the liturgy of the Church and how music is meant to serve it. This awareness was one of the important factors our Search Committee had in mind as it advertised and reviewed applicant s resumes. We sought someone with a commitment to Catholic worship, excellent musicianship, and competence in chant and the classical sacred repertoire. In addition, we looked for someone who had at least a bachelor s degree in organ and possessed a command of the organ repertoire. We found that person in Glen. It was the consensus of the Search Committee to continue the course set in this parish of having music of the highest quality with emphasis on classical hymnody. So, while Glen is a new man on the bench, St. Peter s musical tradition remains constant. Because we are in the midst of summer vacations when attendance is low, we have not planned any sort of formal opportunity for parishioners to meet Glen. However, please feel free to come up to the console to say hello and welcome him. Next weekend is Mission Co-Op Sunday, that time when we are visited by a missionary and asked to support the Church s missionary work around the world. Fr. Gaston Giacinti, current director of the Institute of the Incarnate Word, will be our guest. A few words regarding the parking lot. The renovation, as you see, has moved to the upper portion. The work, I recognize, imposes some inconvenience, particularly for those who find it challenging to walk a distance. Please continue to bear with the construction with your good natured tolerance, knowing that it won t last forever and that when it is done we will have a better looking lot.

The upgrade of the parking lot is being paid for by the Connecticut Institute of Communities as stipulated in our lease with it. No parish money is being used, and every penny of your contribution to the parking lot collection continues to go toward our $8,000.00 monthly mortgage payment on the land. The collection plus the rent from the Connecticut Institute of Communities allows us, most months depending on the size of the collection, to meet our mortgage payment without dipping into our operational account. Occasionally, when between the two sources of income we have an amount in excess of the monthly bill, we put it aside in savings, earmarked for the parking lot. When it accumulates enough beyond a cushion against poor monthly collections, we make a payment against the principal, now at $780,000.00. -Fr. Mecca FIFTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME We offer our condolences to the families of Eileen Breslin Linda Poulin who passed away last week. New families must come into the office for registration. Llegamos, comemos, vemos tv y a dormir.
